Our trip was during an overcast day with calm waters and it took us about two hours on the dot with a child and an adult in each kayak. Make sure you wear sunscreen, bring a bottle of water, and your sunglasses or a hat. I wore my bathing suit with a cotton dress on top, best idea ever (your butt gets pretty soaked) All in all, a great way to start the day. I'll be back to ride with the goats!!

Water is calm and wide-open from the launch site so you have plenty of time to get your sea legs before you set off. Excellent place for groups or families. Very affordable. Singles are $10 for one hour rental, $15 for two. Doubles are $15/20. Life jackets, complimentary! There is a much longer trip you can take, but I can't give pricing or comment since we did the shorter route. Standard disclosures and waivers must be signed. Staff give you all the low-down on the routes and what you can expect to see along the way. It was fun to paddle both open lake and river sections. On the lake we mingled with swans and lily pads, on the river we enjoyed some beautiful and quiet spots with overhanging trees and a nice, gentle current. Although this review is for the paddling company where you rent your equipment, I will add a brief note to say it is located in Indian Crossing Trails Park and there is a public, free launch in the same location. So if your friend has a kayak, but you don't, no one is left out! The park itself is a lovely location with convenient parking for kayakers bringing their own or renting.

Edgewater Beach, located in lower Edgewater Park, and offers roughly 2400 feet of public beach and 1000 feet of swimming and water access. Park is open dusk to dawn. Do note that you can't go past the first line of buoys and only certified US Coast Guard life jackets are permitted. That means no floats, water toys, etc. Dogs are welcome at the Dog Beach section only (westernmost point) and not at the main public beach area. Posting Beach Rules and Regulations here for reference: -Obey Lifeguard instructions at all times -No swimming when red beach flags are posted due to weather/safety conditions -No swimming in unauthorized areas -No diving -Supervise children at all times - No pets on the beach or in the water outside designated area -No flotation devices (only U.S. coast guard approved life jackets allowed) -No fishing near designated swimming areas -No snorkels or scuba equipment -Keep off rocks (ORD 525.01) -No fires or grills on beach We have driven up for a beach day once a year for the past few and it makes for such a great regional getaway.
