Peaceful, Beautiful, and Always Worth the Walk Sheldon Marsh is one of those places that just hits every time, no matter the season. The paved trail makes it super easy for anyone to enjoy--perfect for a peaceful walk, birdwatching, or just soaking in some fresh air. It's quiet, full of wildlife, and there's always something new to catch your eye. One of my favorite parts is when the path opens up to the beach. You get this wide view of Lake Erie, and if you look out far enough, you'll spot the Cedar Point coasters in the distance. It's a cool little reminder of home--nature in front of you, thrill rides in the background. If you're up for a bit of a longer walk, you can follow the beach all the way down to the Point Retreat condos and back. It's a beautiful stretch along the water and gives you even more time to enjoy the lake breeze. And if you're a golf fan, the newly updated Sawmill Creek Golf Course runs right alongside the preserve. You might catch a few swings and even spot a bird or two between shots. Whether I'm home with family or just need a place to reset, Sheldon Marsh is always worth the visit. One of the best spots in Ohio, hands down. read more

I'm always looking for the next spot that has an awesome walkabout and this right here is definitely up at the top of that list! Coming here over the many seasons I've experienced it all with all the beautiful leaves on the trees with them falling to the ground with that summer sun just asking you to jump in the lake and most recently the frozen awesomeness of winter. They do have a good sized parking lot that does fill up on nice days so if your going to visit on one of those plan accordingly to ensure you get a spot! The road that leads out is the old road that used to go to Cedar Point which is super cool to see that this still exists sometime later after an alternate way was created. The road leads straight to the lake where you can find a few paths some dead end and others take you to the beach so it's up to you to decide what way to take. There are also several benches and other places to relax out here which is perfect if you just wanna chill for a bit and enjoy all the awesomeness that is this whole area. Overall this is very awesome and fun experience every time I come here no matter what the season is it's because of that I will continue to come here as much as I possibly can. What a great place for a hike and super close to both Sandusky and Huron! It's nice to have somewhere this preserved and peaceful so close to town. There's a long, wide paved path that's wheelchair friendly with many little observation decks along the way to try to catch a glimpse of a turtle, egret, or *gasp* snake! The path goes all the way back to the water and has beach access. If you right onto the beach and across it, there's a nice shady area with plenty of picnic tables for relaxing. read more

You guys, I've spent a huge amount of my life at this place. My folks used to volunteer here (full disclosure, my dad works here now; it's his retirement gig,) so they'd drag us along for like four hours and we'd be bored stiff. Then I stopped being a foolish youth and got some perspective (don't worry kids, it'll come) and realized that this place is awesome. Shut up and enjoy nature before it's all completely ruined. If you see a mustachioed older fellow working here, tell him his son says hello and he's sorry for not listening when he was a teenager. read more

Buttonbush, green frogs, egrets, herons, & blue dasher dragonflies. ~ My lunch companions today at Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve. Didn't have enough time to take a long walk, but it was nice to take a quick walk toward the lake during my lunch break. Springtime flowers & migrating birds. Saw some serious photography going on.
