One came into moms room a couple times rearranging her furniture. Another in her drawers in the middle of the night. Another one climbs in her bed! They have alarms around their necks, it takes forever for someone to respond! They are always under staffed. Someone is going to get hurt there... Their is no ventilation in the room, food is horrible, its never hot & smells like it straight out of a tin can. I complained to the owner about my mom being violated as she is not mobile. She said they could move her. Guess what? Man moved the bed & left the rest of her stuff in her room. I tried to move what i could. I was locked on the 3rd floor & no one was there to unlock the elevator so i could back to the 2nd floor. This place is a straight-up nightmare!! When it was time for me to leave, they left 2 new hires with no keys to unlock the elevator. Every door stairway, etc is locked down. I had to wait too long for someone to let me on that elevator so i can go home. What happens if there's a fire?? I started to pull the fire alarm... The Warren Fire Marshall needs to know about this! To ad insult to injury, one of the new girls had the audacity to ask me if mom needs changing...wt&^#?? She must not know that's her job. Its just a matter of time b4 we snatch mom up out of there! I made multiple complaints to the state, which they are on the website and they were given multiple times to fix things. Hope you never need help on the weekend because the highest person there is an on call RN, who is available by phone but only the LPN has the number so if you have a problem with her there's no resolution. Would randomly be given half doses of Morphine but no record of waste or 1/2 dose given.

While I did look at other places I kelp thinking back to the Arbor Inn. Ultimately they were the best choice for her. While all of the staff is warm and welcoming the caregivers are the best. Before I even entered the building, I saw, first hand how a staff member responded to a resident in need. The resident was enjoying the fresh air outside and had taken a fall in rounding the corner. I didn't see the actual fall but as I got out of my car, I saw that he was on the ground and bleeding on his forearm, rushed over to him as he was on his hands and knees in the driveway. I told him I would stay with him until help arrived. Just then a staff member was pulling into the parking lot, likely to start her shift. She saw us, immediately pulled her car up behind the resident to block/protect him from anyone else that might be driving in, jumped out of her car, rushed over to assess his condition, called for help with a sense of urgency and thanked me for waiting there with him. I was so impressed by the sense of urgency, confidence, obvious great training, empathy, compassion and dignity shown to this resident by this staff member, I knew right away that this organization is special. I've toured many communities in my career in healthcare and now that my family member is involved, I know what to look for. More than a basic, staged "tour" of a community, I actually got to experience what this community does to care for its residents on a daily basis. That, for me, was priceless. A care community is far more than a pretty entrance, with balloons and a grand piano. It's the staff who care for the residents day-to-day that counts. I ended my tour today after having met with management, who were equally as impressive. Arbor Inn gets an A+ plus from me.

A whole chicken, partially frozen shrimp, cous cous. And other random ingredients. Sorry folks it's not Morton's steak House. Nobody is butchering whole chickens for service of over 100 people. Half frozen non peeled shrimp? Peel and eat shrimp boil anyone? Let's not mention that I'm smashed into a 2'x2' space next to a prep sink with three cooks a pastry chef and dishwashers trying to get prepared for lunch service! Or that some of the equipment I needed to use was in various states of disrepair. I wish the successful candidate the best of luck, with the current state of disrepair of the kitchen and the monkeys running the circus, it'll be a challenge to say the least.

We were so grateful to find St. Anne's Mead on 12 Mile in Southfield. There are various approaches to memory care but we really like SAM's approach the best. They utilize an approach called Best Buddy...where SAM actually hires someone to keep the seniors engaged informally. They have PT and OT of course elsewhere, but I love that this person's main role is to sit with a resident to share a cup of coffee or visit with someone alone on a couch, etc. The Program Director has a very sweet little dog she brings 3 days a week and the residents light up when they get to hold or pet her. The staff are all very respectful of the residents and do seem to like them greatly. They have many activities scheduled throughout the day so there is no sitting and staring at the television for hours. Their meals are delicious. As noted by other reviewers, the building is an old-style nursing home, but the interactions, smiles, and kind staff make it a very hospitable place. The memory care unit was recently renovated with nice size rooms and large private half-baths (showers without assistance can be quite dangerous for seniors with memory issues). They have their own dining area and integrate into the activities of the larger facility as much as possible. Don't be put off that the building is from the 1960's. It has everything you will need for quality care for your loved one who is struggling with memory issues.
