I enjoyed walking around with my husband and eye shopping and seeing what they had. There is parking in front but the entrance can be easily missed so using a GPS would help. read more

I went here to buy trees. Only a few were marked with a price. I waited for someone named Laura to price them and was there for over 45 min. I wanted to discuss the numbers with my husband and a very nice gentleman named Bill had her write them out for me. It was 6 trees and 3 arborvitae and thousands of dollars in total including the installation. I was told they could be held no later than the following Monday. I paid for one tree upfront because I was certain that I wanted it but did not pay for the install because there is a discount for installing 6 and I wanted the discount price to apply. I came back with my husband on that Friday which was 3 days prior to the last date they could be held and this very rude lady told me that they had been calling me to pick up my tree. The one I had already paid for and I explained the prior arrangement and that I had not received a call. She then indicated that it was just earlier today that they had called. I explained that that was why I was there but that we no longer wanted the two blue spruce and wanted to swap them for two others and that the price for the arborvitae wouldn't work for us. We asked to see a arborist who could show us more trees. The seasoned worker was busy so we spent about 25 minutes with a new guy who knew nothing. The seasoned worker. Became available but still the new trees were not prices. Again Laura would call me with the prices and the deal could not be closed because she was not there and now it was after hours. Laura called and accused us of coming in after hours to which I explained that we came in around 4:30 but were there after hours. She also told me that signage on some arborvitae was "obviously" incorrect and the price was over $150 more than the advertised signage. I didn't argue the price because it wasn't my first priority. The trees were my first priority. I was told the trees that I was inquiring about would $419.00 a piece. I told her that I wanted those and the two white pine and a Serbian which I had already paid for and one last year's black hills spruce. She said she would do the paperwork and have it ready. I assured her that I would come in on the next day Sunday to settle my account. I arrived at the store at 3:35. They close at four. We do one final check on the trees and go the counter to pay. The same rude lady is at the counter. I tell her that I want to pay for my trees. Without asking my name, she slowly pulls out some paperwork. She slowly reads it and then looks up at me to say that Laura has to take care of this one herself. So, I ask can Laura come so that. She very rudely tells me that Laura is not there and it is 5 minutes to 4 and they close at four. I explain that this is my third time coming here and she says I don't know what you want me to tell you. So I ask to cancel my order and now this she can do with no hesitation or problem. But she could not ring up my order and apparently there was a particular time frame in which I needed to be there but Laura neglected to mention this to me. I don't know if this rude lady was incompetent, simply just a nasty person or racist. But she certainly has no business in customer service. I refuse to shop anywhere I am treated ugly. read more

We moved into a new home in 2020--with lots of land to plant. I couldn't find the varieties of Viburnum or Mock Orange I wanted at the nurseries I typically visit, so we tried KBK. We ended up buying a number of ferns, shade perennials, two viburnum, and two mock orange bushes. The bushes were really healthy with beautiful branching and roots. We planted mid-summer 2021 and here it is spring 2022 and everything is sprouting beautifully. I've already been by to check out more shade perennials and ferns. Oh, we also bought our favorite new tool at KBK: the Root Slayer--it has been a life-saver in clearing out invasive honeysuckle (and my husband likes the name...lol) read more

This is a nice local nursery and landscaping business, locally owned. It's much bigger than it looks from the road; behind the building, the outdoor area with plants and decorative trees extends really far back. They have annuals and perennials, decorative bushes, and pots of herbs. Inside the store, there are gardening supplies and tools, seeds, and garden decorations. The staff was friendly and talkative. One of the managers said they were expanding to landscaping because diversifying was necessary in the current economy. Nature's Garden Center is weighted toward outdoor ornamental perennials & shrubs. You have to wait until the growing season gets underway before the plants arrive, and then they go until the frosts and freezes. Inside the store, you'll find a TON of garden ornaments, arranged in helpful sections. (See my photos.) Who'd expect that there were that many frog statues available? There is also a selection of angels, ranging from oh, maybe 9" tall to nearly the size of a child. They have a small assortment of veggie and flower seeds, many types of fertilizer, and some other things like deer repellant and pesticides. If you're interested in fairy gardens, they can hook you up. They also have a "Fairy Day" in June. Refreshments, discounts, activities for all ages ... sounds like fun! read more

I purchased loose mulch last year from KBK as well as bagged mulch elsewhere. Everywhere I spread the loose mulch I encountered thistles and dandelions. None whatsoever where the bagged mulch was spread. I am on an acre and have several flowerbeds. The "infestation" was enormous for both. I mulch every year and am meticulous about pulling weeds at the root so there is no regrowth. I do NOT have a thistle feeder in the yard. There is no question the seeds were in their mulch. I brought a large sample of these 2-3 foot thistles to them and was told there is absolutely no recourse. I pulled at least 4X the amount I brought to them. They are unwilling to give me any kind of store credit. Plants can be returned, trees can be returned, damaged products can be returned for credit but nothing can be done about the extra work they created for me. Their customer service stinks! read more

Called to get a quote for mulch delivery after a recommendation from a neighbor. Quoted a price of $70 a yard installed and promised to call back with an install time/date. A week later, called and said a confused employee had misquoted the price and it was $85 a yard with a ten yard minimum. Apparently new ownership needs to get its act together. My wife and I contracted Nature's Garden Center (NGC) to provide landscaping services for our home. We had a new build, and as such required a complete services offering consisting of seeding, flower beds, irrigation, and drainage for both the roofing gutters and the sump pump. In every case, NGC fell short of my expectations which I'll summarize below: From a pre-sales perspective, NGC appeared to have the depth and breadth of knowledge I would expect from a landscaping services provider. They provided a reasonable site survey and were very competitive in the overall cost. That said, they lacked any sort of formal proposal/statement of work process when engaging with a client. Being in the services industry myself I am not comfortable engaging with any company, especially for such a large sum of money, without having a clear proposal and a formal statement of work in place detailing exactly, precisely the work to be done. This appeared to be a foreign concept to NGC and, in the end, I had to quite unbelievably write the statement of work for them. Incredible. The irrigation component of the service offering was subcontracted from NGC to Ann Arbor Water Works. While the irrigation system technically works, there are a number of deficiencies present in the work. When calling in an alternate vendor after the work was completed, they provided the following assessment: there were over 30 heads misaligned (crooked, not providing proper coverage, etc), at least two zones were over-loaded, and when the work was done they provided no validation that the pressure required by the irrigation system would still leave adequate pressure for basic water usage in the home. This was not the case. Initially when the sprinkler was running even using a tap was virtually impossible to say nothing of using the shower, dishwasher, laundry, etc. Given the fact that we are on a well & septic system, Water Works was remiss in not checking to see that there was still adequate water pressure in the home when the sprinkler was running. While this was eventually addressed as best as possible, it is staggering to me that no hydrostatic tests were ever done at installation. Regardless, we needed to contract a third party to correct all of the misaligned heads and overloaded zones. The yard was seeded by the hydro-seeding method. The equipment which NGC used to seed the yard was obtained from a rental center; They did not own this equipment. As a result they appeared to not understand how to operate it properly as on at least three occasions the nozzle popped off spilling huge amounts of hydroseed into the yard super-saturating some areas and, in the end, they did not have enough hydroseed to cover the entire yard. After the grass finally germinated, it was clear that there were several areas that were also under-seeded/not seeded at all which we've subsequently had to re-seed. One of the drainage requirements we had was to install an egress pipeline for the sump pump to get the contents which the sump expels (water collected and waste from the waster softener) into the ditch area by the road, rather than next to the house or into the yard. When this was scoped, they clearly didn't have any concept of fluid dynamics and installed a 1" pipe with a 90-degree right angle in it to evacuate the water from the house to the street. Needless to say that the backwash valve I insist they installed (thankfully) was tripped every time the sump pump ran since the diameter of the pipe was not sufficient to allow the passage of water at the pressure that the sump expelled it at. To try to remediate this NGC replaced the 1" pipe with a 2" pipe for the first 3 or 4 feet of the run then reducing down to the original 1" pipe and retaining the 90-degree right angle. Needless to say this also failed and it was quite clear that NGC was going to be unable to deliver on this part of the services agreement. As a result, I contacted three other vendors that all agreed that the piping used should be 4" diameter flex-pipe and that the 'turn' required to progress the pipe parallel to the driveway down to the road should be gradual and absolutely not the 90-degree angle which was originally scoped. While NGC had offered me a $1000 credit to absolve them from that component of the services offering, it would cost me approximately $1500 to have the sump line remediated by another vendor. Needless to say it was extremely frustrating when Steve Sclater told me that they would not be willing to provide a $1500 concession as he believed that it was "too expensive" to correct this issue which they were contractually bound to deliver. If Nature's Garden Center only sold take-home plants, probably we would give them a three stars. During our visits they have had some nice looking plants onsite. However, we purchased two trees (2" diameter trunks) and installation from them in the spring of 2014, and that experience has been very poor. It started out well, as the staff seemed friendly and helpful when we visited, and we were able to choose two nice-looking trees on site for later installation. The owner informed us that they were running a little behind in installation, which we said was ok. However, installation ran many weeks beyond their original estimate and we could not get them to return our calls requesting a new installation timeline. We had to visit in person to obtain a response. Some months after installation one of the trees was not doing well and so we called to tell them this in hopes that something could be done and they would not have to replace the tree. The person on the phone seemed surprised that no brochure or instructions were left with us as to tree care (fortunately, we had been able to research this on our own). The staff member said they would send someone out to our house right away to take a look, and yet no one ever showed up. Weeks later, with the tree completely dead, we had to visit again in person to obtain a response. The owner said no one had passed on to him our messages. At that point we just wished to cut ties altogether with them and have a refund for the one dead tree, but they would not do this, rather they said they would install a new tree in two weeks. My husband reminded the owner (whom we had spoken to multiple times previously) about how poorly communication had gone, and the owner assured him that it would be installed within the two weeks and we would not have to call to follow up. Two weeks later we called because no one had showed up, and were told by a cashier that some of their installation equipment was malfunctioning. But, of course, no one bothered to call and let us know despite the prior conversation with the owner. After complaining to the cashier, another staff member called us back. Refreshingly, this new staff member whom we had never spoken with before was extremely friendly and problem-solving (we wish we had been working with him all along) and arranged for the replacement tree to be successfully installed within two days of the call. To their credit, the new tree they chose is nicer looking than the original one. But, we will see if it lasts, as the small print on their receipts indicate that they only replace a tree once, even if they install it. In any case, we will not be going back to them for trees again. And likely we will not return to them at all, given the overall experience. We have used other local businesses for other trees and had nothing but great experiences. read more

Ordered mulch from them, they delivered it but it was short 4 yards. When I called to ask why, the owner told me that I didn't know what I was talking about. He was very rude, I told him that I always buy 10 yards for my yard and it's always enough to cover everything and that the gardener I hired to help me, told me I was short the mulch as well, he told me that the gardener I was using was stupid and didn't know what they were talking about. I was shocked at how little he cared. Needless to say I will not be buying anything form them ever again. The owner is rude and very arrogant. read more

I went there with my daughter to purchase plants. They sold us azaleas only to come and tell us that they had already been sold. This was after they were in the car and paid for. When I told the owner about it he was extremely rude. He told me as the consumer we should have checked the tags on the plants that were given us by one of his employees. I emphatically, without swear words or any inappropriate actions told him this was not my responsibility. When I disagreed with him that this was not my responsibility he told me to leave the property and never come back. My daughter will never return there. I was principal and taught at St. Paul's Lutheran and am highly respected by many. The treatment here was uncalled for. read more
