KBRNY did an incredible job on our full gut renovation in DUMBO. They provided a skilled designer to help us choose gorgeous materials, a dedicated project manager who kept everything on time and on budget, and an exceptional team of contractors, electricians, and plumbers who delivered flawless work. The result is stunning and exactly what we envisioned. Highly recommend KBRNY to anyone looking for a luxury renovation done right!

Nothing was covered when they sanded the walls

Worst. Decision. Ever. I wish I could give a half-star or no stars. After a very good sales pitch from KBR (earning the single star), I signed a contract in June, 2021 to cover the popcorn ceiling and install recessed lighting, sand and paint the walls, change the doors and change the floors. Not all rooms were touched and the Scope of Work specified what should and should not have been done. The work did not begin until December, 2021. They had a total of 42 days to complete the work, and NO WORKERS SHOWED for 21 of those days. Everything that was supposed to be "excluded" from work was done. Everything that was asked to be done, was done poorly. When the walls were sanded for painting, nothing in the apartment was covered. Six months later and there is still plaster dust in the blinds. There were three bi-fold doors in the apartment that sit within the doorframe opening. The opening is 38". The tried to install 44" doors and rather than shaving them to fit, they installed them 6" away from the wall (looking like a barn door). When the furniture was moved back in, the doors would not close. The ceiling started to sag almost immediately ... it turned out it was never done to code and had to be re-done. They installed broken flooring at the entrance to the apartment. They never cut the flooring to fit around door frames and left large holes around those areas. They also threw out all my additional flooring (including saved flooring from a job they did not do). They broke the window treatments so the blinds do not open. They never once listened to the client, there was NO supervision of the workers and they just shrugged off the fact that they were doing things that they were asked not to be done. When they were "finished", I was left with broken floorboards, an apartment that was only partially painted, bi-fold doors that would not close, and as I found out later, a ceiling not done to code. Additionally, I was fined twice by my building, because they did not put out the correct carpet protections in the hallway. Clearly I could not allow them to finish the work, and had to hire a second contractor (TimeLine Renovations who were FANTASTIC) to fix everything that they had ruined. Their response? They have refused to engage. I would never recommend these people to anyone. They were flat-out horrible.

Salesperson (Laila P) was late, was so frazzled and disconnected she provided zero guidance when looking at tile. I think I knew more about the product than she did. Follow up emails to her about tile questions were 100% incorrect ("our tiles are ceramic, non-porous tiles. They are NOT natural stone."). That is UNTRUE!!! Delivery was a joke. Per contract, delivery was with a pallet jack. They arrived with an enormous forklift that could not get down my street (or any NYC street). See image. Dropped it 150 ft from my home. Had to carry 1,350 pounds of tile 150 ft into my apartment. Customer service after that was short and rude (Sedina O). Contested delivery fee with credit card and won. Finally tried to return tiles and they refused because I reached out to them 46 days after delivery (policy is 45 days). Really??!! Go somewhere else where you can buy the same tile for less money. They charge extra so they can pay for their MASSIVE showrooms all over the world. The sales people there are useless. Good luck getting any support from corporate. They are non existent.

I spoke to a lot of renovation companies before choosing NYKB and honestly most of them felt the…read moresame until I met Maia. What stood out immediately was that she didn't just try to "sell" me a bathroom. She actually paid attention to how I live day to day and designed the space around that. She noticed little things I didn't even think about, like where lighting should hit the mirror, storage that wouldn't make the room feel crowded, and materials that looked expensive without feeling cold or overly trendy. The biggest difference with NYKB was that the process never felt chaotic. Usually when people talk about renovations it's horror stories, delays, and constantly chasing people down. I never felt that here. Everything felt intentional and handled. Maia somehow managed to make a renovation feel calm, which I didn't think was possible. Now that it's finished, my bathroom genuinely feels like part of a luxury hotel suite but still personal and comfortable. Everyone who comes over comments on it immediately. Looking back, choosing NYKB was probably the best decision I made for the project. Maia has an eye that's very hard to find.

***THIRD UPDATE***…read more The company says that Yelp only allows a business to post one public comment yet the author clearly was able to update the previous response. I guess the person used magic or maybe it's just another lie. This individual is offering to make a deal "in good faith" but if there was any good faith any kind of a resolution would have occurred over a year ago. The writer wants a respectful resolution but as I mentioned previously I don't believe anyone with or associated with this company is capable of that. I'm also sure that any mutual settlement agreement would require me to pull my review and keep my mouth shut. That's not happening. This might work on some people but not me. There is no reason for me to interact with anyone with or affiliated with New York Kitchen and Bath. Not because the door was shut a while ago but because I am in no position to make any legal decisions since my name is not on any of the contracts, forms, etc. The name on the forms, etc. belongs to my husband. I asked him if he wants any contact with them and he does not want any contact with them either. ****SECOND UPDATE*** due to the deletion of the company's first response. The company now states I am leaving out important context. Okay. Let me address everything that was just mentioned by the company. The only work in the bathroom was for it to be painted, a new faucet installed in the sink, a towel rack installed on the wall, and a hook to be put on the door yet they make it come across like it was going to be a gut demo. They say we wanted to remove labor. That is a complete lie. Maybe they try to stiff labor but not us. They say they were willing to work with our cabinets of choice but if they were as knowledgeable about the industry as they claim they would have known that was frowned upon by said company. They are leaving out the important context of how many months it took for them to comprehend we wanted a quality product and not something inferior. In fact when they finally accepted this they refused to contact the point person at that brand. They say we walked away. We did because we recognized that what we were going through was the same as all of the other negative reviews and didn't want to go beyond what we had already did in addition to the ineptness and continued disrespect. We did contact an attorney. This was when we were told an agreement was reached and then reneged by them. We did contact the BBB and the company lied and left out key FACTS there too. They say we involved our building. This is a flat out lie with the exception of submitting incomplete paperwork by them. If this company wanted to do anything in good faith they would have stood by their word. In my opinion, these individuals don't have it in them to do that. I don't want anything from them and even if I did accept anything I wouldn't be surprised if the check was stopped or the cash was counterfeit. ****FIRST UPDATE**** I'm updating due to the company's response. The paperwork was NEVER completed correctly despite multiple attempts. In fact our paperwork package continued to contain paperwork for an apartment downtown and was never removed. Owner called my husband yelling at him demanding an answer but never shut up so he could answer. Company shakes people down like the mafia, does not follow the Rules of the City of New York, and does not keep their word. Absolutely nothing was handled responsibly, respectfully, or ethically. On multiple occasions we tried to work on a fair settlement but that did not work for THEM. When we were close to an agreement it was reneged. These people will never admit to any wrongdoing they have done to anyone. I have zero desire to have any communication with anyone from this company. Reasonable and calm communication is not something they are or will ever be capable of. And for the record, my husband and I don't share a Yelp account. That's lame. We're independent individuals.

Her comment posted to my previous Yelp review gives you an idea as to the type of people you can expect to work with over at NY Rainbow. As posted back in 2013 (and as I reminded Wendy) my Yelp review is an accurate recap of my experience wth NY Rainbow. Nowhere in my review did not indicate that I was a customer or that any money exchanged hands. Everything that's there is an accurate summary of my grueling experience with NY Rainbow. Emails and phone calls are the cost of doing business. As I told Kris and Wendy previously, I was on vacation (personal time) during most of my correspondence with them, so my time was as valuable (and arguably more valuable) than theirs. I made the scope of work known and very clear from the get go and I admitted FROM THE START it was a smaller project. If they didn't want to take on my smaller project, they should have said so at the start and saved everyone the time and frustration.
