I spoke to a lot of renovation companies before choosing NYKB and honestly most of them felt the same until I met Maia. What stood out immediately was that she didn't just try to "sell" me a bathroom. She actually paid attention to how I live day to day and designed the space around that. She noticed little things I didn't even think about, like where lighting should hit the mirror, storage that wouldn't make the room feel crowded, and materials that looked expensive without feeling cold or overly trendy. The biggest difference with NYKB was that the process never felt chaotic. Usually when people talk about renovations it's horror stories, delays, and constantly chasing people down. I never felt that here. Everything felt intentional and handled. Maia somehow managed to make a renovation feel calm, which I didn't think was possible. Now that it's finished, my bathroom genuinely feels like part of a luxury hotel suite but still personal and comfortable. Everyone who comes over comments on it immediately. During the demolition and construction phases, Michael, the Project Manager, ensured that all work was done, or even redone, to the highest standards. The crew was polite, accommodating and kept the apartment clean. Despite some delays and unexpected costs, NYKB was always respectful and tried their best. ***THIRD UPDATE*** The company says that Yelp only allows a business to post one public comment yet the author clearly was able to update the previous response. I guess the person used magic or maybe it's just another lie. This individual is offering to make a deal "in good faith" but if there was any good faith any kind of a resolution would have occurred over a year ago. The writer wants a respectful resolution but as I mentioned previously I don't believe anyone with or associated with this company is capable of that. I'm also sure that any mutual settlement agreement would require me to pull my review and keep my mouth shut. That's not happening. This might work on some people but not me. There is no reason for me to interact with anyone with or affiliated with New York Kitchen and Bath. Not because the door was shut a while ago but because I am in no position to make any legal decisions since my name is not on any of the contracts, forms, etc. The name on the forms, etc. belongs to my husband. I asked him if he wants any contact with them and he does not want any contact with them either. ****SECOND UPDATE*** due to the deletion of the company's first response. The company now states I am leaving out important context. Okay. Let me address everything that was just mentioned by the company. The only work in the bathroom was for it to be painted, a new faucet installed in the sink, a towel rack installed on the wall, and a hook to be put on the door yet they make it come across like it was going to be a gut demo. They say we wanted to remove labor. That is a complete lie. Maybe they try to stiff labor but not us. They say they were willing to work with our cabinets of choice but if they were as knowledgeable about the industry as they claim they would have known that was frowned upon by said company. They are leaving out the important context of how many months it took for them to comprehend we wanted a quality product and not something inferior. In fact when they finally accepted this they refused to contact the point person at that brand. They say we walked away. We did because we recognized that what we were going through was the same as all of the other negative reviews and didn't want to go beyond what we had already did in addition to the ineptness and continued disrespect. We did contact an attorney. This was when we were told an agreement was reached and then reneged by them. We did contact the BBB and the company lied and left out key FACTS there too. They say we involved our building. This is a flat out lie with the exception of submitting incomplete paperwork by them. If this company wanted to do anything in good faith they would have stood by their word. In my opinion, these individuals don't have it in them to do that. I don't want anything from them and even if I did accept anything I wouldn't be surprised if the check was stopped or the cash was counterfeit. ****FIRST UPDATE**** I'm updating due to the company's response. The paperwork was NEVER completed correctly despite multiple attempts. In fact our paperwork package continued to contain paperwork for an apartment downtown and was never removed. Owner called my husband yelling at him demanding an answer but never shut up so he could answer. Company shakes people down like the mafia, does not follow the Rules of the City of New York, and does not keep their word. Absolutely nothing was handled responsibly, respectfully, or ethically. On multiple occasions we tried to work on a fair settlement but that did not work for THEM. When we were close to an agreement it was reneged. These people will never admit to any wrongdoing they have done to anyone. I have zero desire to have any communication with anyone from this company. Reasonable and calm communication is not something they are or will ever be capable of. And for the record, my husband and I don't share a Yelp account. That's lame. It is a pleasure to be providing a review for NYTDR, because I originally contacted the company based on its outstanding reviews from other delighted clients. In my research, the consistent high ratings in NYTDR reviews was unique. Now, my own experience confirms these exceptional reports. I contacted NYKB on behalf of my age 88 partner after a fire in his kitchen left that room in bad shape and everything in his small apartment covered with soot. State Farm had assigned a company to help us clear the apartment, and we had met with a representative of a State Farm construction contractor. I decided to do some research and found NYKB. I wish I had engaged them from the start. Michael, the NYKB construction manager, worked tenaciously for five months to get a reasonable payout from State Farm. Michael's skill and knowledge achieved a result that was way beyond what we could have done based on our naive understanding. Through it all, as the months of following up with State Farm dragged on, Michael was a reassuring cheerleader. In addition, NYKB's price for EVERYTHING was amazing. In addition to skill and commitment, this company goes way above and beyond to make sure clients have a stellar experience with them. Today, we met with Michael and some of the NYKB staff to move forward on the renovations. It was a wonderful experience. No construction company will ever get 5 stars but this one is as close as you will find! And let me say from the jump - I LOVE my new kitchen & bath!! I gut-renovated both my kitchen and bath which had been badly ignored for years so it was a big job. What I loved about NYKB was they handled every aspect of the job from start to finish - the permits, dealing with the co-op, the design, the construction, the plumbing and the electric. Everything under one roof! My project manager Gevanta was excellent. Almost every time he said a piece of the job would be ready by a date specific he was usually +/- a day of that commitment. He spoke to me constantly and followed up promptly when I had questions. My designer Maia come up with a great design and helped me find just the right materials to realize that design. Chris and his assistant did most of the heavy work on job and every night they cleaned everything up so well!! All my neighbors were so impressed the halls were immaculate every day. Everyone commented! So if I'm so over the top happy, why the 4-star rating? First, one of their main selling points was that the designer and I would go shopping for the extras on the job - the faucets, the sink, things like that. So we went and it was fine until I got the bill. $13,000!!! This included $900 for a sink that didn't even include the sink strainer - the bit that connected the sink to the pipe. That cost an extra $168. Well, when I saw that bill I about lost my sh*t. I said no thanks , and for about $800 got all the bits and bobs from Home Depot. Same brands, nicer styles, a fraction of the price. And the $7k bathroom sink included in that shopping spree price was replaced with one for $1500 from Wayfair. Seriously, a little price sensibility. I understand Markell but I got a comparable sink including strainer and rack at Home Depot for the price of the strainer on the original sink. The other area for improvement involve the two items that we were going to repurpose in the renovated rooms - the kitchen faucet and the toilet. Even though the plan said to put them aside and keep them, they were disposed of during the demolition. To their credit, NYKB replace them at their own cost. The faucet was able to be replaced with the same brand, the toilet was not. At the end of the day, I would wholeheartedly recommend NYKB to anyone looking to remodel the kitchen and/or bathroom. In fact, I already have. But like any project, it's up to the person engaging the contractor to ensure that things stay on track. Although the job had a rocky start due to personnel issues, once Michael Avidor (project manager ) and Rojda Zorer (designer) took over all went smoothly and they were on top of any changes/problems that came along. Pros: the work is fantastic and my kitchen and bath came out exactly the way I wanted. Also they do stand by their warranty because my job was completed in July and this past April I called Michael because my bathroom sink faucet broke and he came right away and it was replaced free of charge, since it was still under warranty. Cons: I feel the initial contract was vague and allowed a lot of room for increased costs.This is why I won't give 5 stars. I have a small NYC apartment kitchen in a coop building on the Upper West Side that needed a significant kitchen update-cabinets, countertops, backsplash and lighting. NYKB provided a preliminary design and worked diligently with me to make adjustments and revisions to fit my needs, including repurposing some existing high-end appliances and making innovative suggestions about others, including a small under-sink dishwasher. It was important to me for insurance purposes and for resale that the work be completed by a licensed contractor and licensed subcontractors. Andrea worked tirelessly with the coop board to get the project approved and to satisfy all of the building's rules and requirements for construction projects. She stayed in close communication with the building management during the process, and secured the necessary City permits for the projects in a timely manner. Gevanta Trosa was an attentive, helpful, kind and considerate Project Manager. He regularly checked in to make sure that the project was proceeding to my satisfaction and to schedule subcontractors. He was flexible and respectful around the needs of my job and restrictions on my work time off requests and procedures, because it was important for me to be on site for key installations and components of the work. He problem-solved on the fly which proved very valuable. NYKB's subcontractors were excellent. The carpenters, Eddie, Javier and Jonathan were detail-oriented and quality-work focused, They checked and rechecked before cutting and installing. The electrician, Wilfredo, and his team were professional, neat and organized. The plumbers were patient, efficient and highly skilled; they were great problem solvers. There were change orders required for the job, but this was largely due to extensive demands on the building that required tenants renovating to upgrade plumbing and electrical work in the building as a part of renovations. Gevanta and Mike Avidor worked with me in reviewing the change orders and making modifications where needed. It's been about a year since I interacted with NYKB / NYTDR, and with Perry in particular. So this review comes with a lot of reflection. I'll preface that Noy and Moshe are great, even if their value-add is more useful for people that are disorganized and need someone to fully deal with property insurance. I suffered severe water damage to my living room floors last year. I filed an insurance claim and contacted NYDTR hoping they could expedite the process. Fast forward to 3 months later and I finally get approved by insurance, so now we're working on the budget. It turns out that NYKB's estimate for labor alone is about 88% of my max coverage. So not a lot of wiggle room for materials, move out costs or storage. I express to NYKB a willingness to put some of my own money above the max coverage, but will be extremely budget constrained so I needed to have a good understanding of the potential range of costs. They tell me they really don't know if they can provide a range until after we move out and they demolish the floor. Obviously by that point we would be deep into the process with sunk costs already, and I was really concerned we would find out the costs would be $10k more. After a few email exchanges where I am seeking clarification about how high some costs could go (possibly 5k more, 10K, worst case scenario?) so that we can budget, Perry gets defensive and says while he understands, he'll pass on our project. So I apologize for all of my questions but I had expressed budget concerns from the beginning to which he responds that he can't predict things and it sounds like I don't trust NYTDR. It was a very weird response from a president of a company, and someone I'd only interacted with twice up to that point. Seems pretty insensitive to customers with real budget constraints, which theoretically is who is going to contact NYTDR in the first place. If you don't have budget constraints and like convenience (since they're in a great location in Manhattan), they're probably great to work with. But I really needed to stay close to my insurance coverage, so it was just very challenging for me to navigate my finances without clarity. In the end we got super high quality work with a different contractor using the same materials (at exactly 2/3 of the price they quoted me for the same high quality materials). We ended up going above the max insurance payout because they were clear every step of the way and answered EVERY detailed question we had, so we were able to fit in other fixes for our closets, bedroom door, fixing unrelated damage to our walls, and full repaint. As I said it's now a year later and we're ecstatic with the outcome. But I'm still really disappointed with this experience because it made me feel bad about where I am financially. read more

They wasted my time because of their poor internal communication. They are disorganized, and you'll get different answers depending who you speak with there. It seems like unless you're a big dollar client, they don't care about you. If they only want big renovations that's fine, but don't have your office staff say you do small work if you don't. We only needed a minor kitchen update, and asked their office if the job would be too small for them (since they mainly do full renovations and not one-off updates). They said it wasn't too small and asked us to send over photos of our space, and details on what we needed done. They also recommended we have a consultation call with their designer, who could give us an exact pricing quote. We had the call with their designer. It started late and the WRONG PERSON from their company joined the meeting at first. When the designer finally joined she said nobody ever sent her our photos or project details, even though their office specifically made us send them over so the designer could see them before the call. The designer then told us the job we wanted done was probably too small for them, and she'd need to check with her manager...even though their office told us it wasn't too small of a job. After the call, we were told someone would contact us in 24 hours with an answer and a pricing quote. Well, someone did contact us, but it was to ask for our photos and work details again because they lost the ones we previously emailed them! At this point it was our third time sending them this info. We luckily found another contractor who actually valued our time and money, and was very competent. read more

Throughout our project, we alerted NYKB of our issues/concerns. Instead of addressing them, they continued to try to take advantage of us with overbilling, inflated billing, unnecessary change orders for unnecessary plumbing work, incurrence of violations with the City of New York DOB, permanently damaging items throughout our apartment, unsafely accessing our building/apartment, needing to re-execute work because it was done poorly/lazily/unsupervised the first time, etc. This company is nothing more than Dollar General masquerading itself as Tiffany's. Some didn't answer at all and some took weeks to answer. NYKB was always the first one to get back to me no matter what question I had. That being said, I decided to work with Sharon (NYKB's designer). From the first meeting, Sharon (and the team) has been as responsive as someone can be. The very few times that Sharon wasn't available when I called, I called the office and she returned my calls immediately. Communication, among other factors, is crucial in such a long-term "relationship" and NYKB excelled. No matter if you do a renovation or a new house construction, at some point you will run into unwanted surprises and unforeseen circumstances. Gio, the assigned project manager has always been very proactive in finding solutions and coming up with different ideas, not just executing existing and approved plans. I hired NYKB for my bathroom remodel. The entire team was incredibly knowledgeable and creative when it came to the design of the bathroom. With their support I picked out all the materials, colors and plumbing fixtures and tiles in one sitting. It was like they read my mind because everything they sent me to look at was exactly what I imagined. This gave me confidence that they were listening to my needs. There were some minor roadblocks along the way, and the project manager was always there to smooth things out before it became a problem and caused me any stress. My husband and I had an awful experience working with NYKB. We signed a contract with NYKB for an apartment remodel and paid a $112,000 deposit (50% down). Just a month later, NYKB hit us with surprise additional charges totaling $230,000, claiming that these charges were necessary for "building requirements". It turned out that NYKB had tacked on significant new charges for tasks like waterproofing and plumbing work that should have obviously been included in the original contract since the work included gutting and replacing everything in 3 bathrooms and a kitchen. It seemed that their initial quote is a bait-and-switch tactic, designed to lure us in before springing huge additional costs upon us. Furthermore, even though they had more than doubled the cost of their original quote, NYKB would not guarantee the costs would stop there. In the end, my husband and I decided just to lose our deposit rather than continue. It was a huge financial loss for us, but we are glad we did not continue with NYKB and could preserve some semblance of our sanity. We could go on describing our terrible experience with NYKB but we are more concerned that negative Yelp reviews for NYKB seem to be mysteriously disappearing from view and are somehow "not being factored into the business's overall star rating". As stated above, my husband and I had an awful experience with NYKB. If the option to rate NYKB with negative stars existed, we would undoubtedly do so. read more

I worked with Noy, Rojda, and Q from NYKB on a gut remodel of a bathroom. We also updated some lighting and installed nice new automated blinds. My wife and i are extremely happy with the results and with NYKB. In particular, the bathroom is just gorgeous and much more functional than it was before. I set up a meeting and the representative came over, measured the bathroom, showed me a portfolio of finished works. We recently Remodeled a 20-year-old master bath which included new floors, tiling in the shower and around the tub, painting, new fixtures, and vanities. NYKB did a fantastic job, cleaned up after themselves each day of work, and paid attention to detail. Kate, the designer, went shopping with us to pick out tiles and plumbing fixtures that were needed and had lots of patience. I plan to hire them again to install a new backsplash in my kitchen. I renovated my apartment a few years ago using NYKB. It was a gut renovation of my entire apartment. The process was painful and I had a terrible experience. There were upcharges from an already very high quote on almost everything. They knocked down a wall accidentally, and when I told them they could leave it down and we could rethink the layout, THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR IT. Initially, I opted not to write a review. I wanted to walk away from the experience and leave it in the past. But now, just a few short years later, the tiles are literally falling off of the wall in my bathroom. I recently renovated my bathroom in my small NYC condo. Overall it was a very positive experience. Michael and the NYKB crew showed up on time when they promised. Each and every day they cleaned up at the end of the workday, which kept the mess to a minimum. They are true professionals. The tile work (both floor and shower walls) was done beautifully. I had construction experience and I like perfection! The project was on time and within my budget. The workers were courteous and pleasant to work with.
