What a gem of a store. Professionals to amateur cooks alike will totally appreciate the selection of products carried here. From knives and kitchen gadgets to tool bags and pans, they do really stock a lot of things you might need/want. As a baker, I literally needed everything. I was in the market for some silicone moulds and of course, this place carries a huge selection from well known brands. The prices are a bit higher than my usual sources but it's literally 1 second shipping so.....I'm down. If I lived nearby, this store would be dangerous. read more

As an innocent bystander, having a chef in your life opens your eyes to so many new things, including JB Prince. I absolutely love kitchen gadgets and all things that are useful, tools and kitchen related. JB Prince does not disappoint. There are things sold In here that only true chefs or restaurant personnel would know, but make a person like me just look at in awe. There were knives, aprons, salt and pepper grinders, chocolate molds, miniature everything, woks, sous vide machine, you name it. It existed here. So walking in to this place was a fun experience to start. It is within a building and not very well labeled. We found it because of my chef friend. The most impressive part, however, was the CEO of the company greeted us at the door. We didn't know he was the CEO. He acted like a customer service representative and "talked shop" with my friend, but was very down to earth and just absolutely pleasant. He was patient with my lay person lack of knowledge and encouraged me to explore the whole store and was willing to answer questions if I had any. My friend and I spent two solid hours in this location and I am sure we did not see everything. I look forward to going back here some day and meandering about some more. I can only encourage anyone who is in the restaurant business, this place is a must have on your supplier list. This is the type of establishment I would want to do business with. read more

OMG! I used to come here All. The. Time. back in the early 2000's to get my cooking and baking supplies. Bought the best 12 inch sautee pan that I have ever owned here and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Wonderful service. Wonderful products. Bought an off-set icing spatula here that I still own and use to this day - it's gotta be 15 years old and looks brand-new. I miss you JB Prince!!!!! read more

There should be a sign on the door to Jb Prince that says: "Turn your Head and Cough Upon Entering," because you can leave there feeling a bit...shall we say, wobbly. Great selection. Hell, amazing selection. But at prices that would make Malfunctioning Eddie's head explode. $ 30 bucks for a spring-loaded 1-ounce ice cream scoop? $ 90 bucks for a Jose Andres picture boo--, er, cookbook? $ 65 bucks for an 18-pocket knife bag? Great source for hard to find cooking tools. I went there on a very hot day in late June and one of the employees immediately offered me a bottle of cold water and asked if I needed any help. The store isn't large, but they have all kinds of high quality cooking tools, pans, knives, molds, serving dishes, etc. I was able to find a chocolate mold I've been looking for, as well as some tasting dishes, a ring and pyramid mold, and an oval server. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is in an odd location with no signs except their name on the elevator directory. Walk down E. 31st street and look for the double glass doors with the number 36 on top. It's right next door to the Athena Spa. Take the elevator to the 11th floor and you're there. We moved from California to New York last week and had all of our things shipped with a moving/shipping company. Unfortunately, not all of our things made it. A few boxes got "lost" and of course, my toolbox of my professional Chef tools was in one of them. With a trail/interview the next day and an urgent need to replace all of my tools, JB Prince came to the rescue! I found everything I was looking for here, from knives to whisks, thermometers to microplanes, peelers to spatulas. Besides anything a professional chef might need, the home cook could definitely find some things to make at-home cooking much easier, and even much more fun. Sure, you can get these things online for cheaper, but I was under time restraint, and from researching other stores, JB Prince seemed to have the best prices. My Wustof knives were decently priced. When I worked in California, we ordered chocolate molds from them, and they had a nice variety in-store as well. This store makes any foodie, chef or passionate home-cook feel like a kid in a candy store! Oh and when entering the building, you need to take the elevator up to the 11th Floor. read more

One sunny afternoon, I felt the sudden urge of wanting to grill Octopus. I had the octopus in my fridge and the spices to make the marinade but no grill. So onto the magical world of online shopping. First, I went on Amazon and Bed, Bath and Beyond - but I didn't find anything I liked. So i decided to Yelp kitchen supplies and came across JB Prince. :) They have all sorts of kitchen supplies, I can't say the place has everything, coz unfortunately, they don't have cast iron griddles, but they have enough to keep someone busy! Prices can't be beat, as they range from pocket friendly to "for the ballin' only." The only downside to this wonderful store is that they're only open till 5pm on weekdays and closed on weekends - but don't fret, you can always order online. :) read more

Are you a chef? If so, then you don't need this review, since you already know that JB Prince is the place to go for all your cooking needs. But if you're an aspirational home cook, or a visitor, perhaps you do not know about it. As a NYC-born chef now living in NZ I found about JB Prince on a NYC visit a few years ago and have made it a stop on every subsequent visit. If you are looking for anything at all that is used in a kitchen you will find it here, and at a very reasonable price, too. And the staff are very friendly and helpful, too. They have an interesting range of cookbooks, too, all sold below the list price. Definitely a must-see. I am not sure how to rate their price range, though, since they have reasonable prices, as mentioned above, but a lot of their stuff is high-end and so not actually "cheap". read more

This place is the heaven for home cooks, professional chefs and restaurant owners. This place has almost everything you need for a kitchen, from tweezers to big cooking equipment's. The staffs are super nice and friendly but also super knowledgeable in what they are selling in jb prince. The prices are fair but if you want high quality materials and equipment's it can be very expensive. overall this place is one of the best culinary supplies store in New York City. I almost fainted going into this store. This is the mecca of culinary equipment. Not only did they have everything tool wise, but they have some of the best cookbooks in the game. Experience with the workers were awesome. They gave me time to browese, then asked if I needed help. Walked around a bit more, asked for help, and they were so attentive, they helped right away. Only in New York: enter a nondescript midtown office building, take the elevator up to the 11th floor, and behold JB Prince. You might not need anything as specific as some of their items, if you're not a professional cook; on the other hand, you might not realize you needed it until you visited JB Prince. Besides the ChefWear and knife rolls that only someone in the business would really have much use for, they've got a ton of pastry/baking stuff (who doesn't want Silpat, chocolate molds, every size of ice cream/dough scoops under the sun?), knives (you know you want a chef's knife, even if you're not a chef) and the gamut of kitchen necessities and frivolities (peelers, chinoises, whisks, zesters, spoons, steamers, oyster forks, and so on). Plus this place is worth a visit just for the vestibule outside the elevator, the walls of which are papered with hundreds (thousands?) of business cards from area restaurants. Amazing little spot for all your cooking needs. From books to knives to knife accessories, to baking needs, they got it all. The place isn't that big, so you can pretty much see everything. It is very well organized. The staffs are extremely friendly and helpful. They will be more than happy to recommend places to you if they don't have the things that you are looking for. This will now be the place where I want to spend all of my money. I have to say that there prices seem pretty competitive to where I usually do all my online shopping. I'm not a pro chef, but am an extremely interested home chef. I keep trying to figure out ways to justify needing a knife roll, but just can't quite seem to think of one. I've got to say that the staff is so helpful that I didn't believe I was actually shopping in a store. Also its worth pointing out that this store is located inside an office building on the 11th floor so it might be a little difficult to find w/o that knowledge. I been waited to go here ever since I hear of this place from my old chef. It a culinary store that have everything that u would want to enhance your cooking from cooking tools to pots and everything in the middle. First of all, I order a global paring knife last week and the prices wasn't bad at all. Then this week, I want inside the store to see it for myself and got a few things for my work. The place was on the 11th floor of a building and i was picturing something big but this place was quite small. Yes they have cool things but I was somewhat surprise that it isn't more things. Anyway this place is cool if i was cool by but no way I would make a effort to go here again. I know alot of cooks and chef goes here but I rather goes to Korin for my knife and go to chinese town for the rest of the things. read more

This place is great, whether you are in the business or not. Theyve got all kinds of fun supplies, machinery, tools, and fancy cookbooks displayed in their clean and organized showroom. Not only are the salespeople nice and helpful, they also seem to know about the products they sell. I cant promise you will get out of there for cheap, but I did see some stuff there that cost less than other places Ive been, and I will take what I can get. read more

Kitchen supply store w quality products for chefs/restaurants so was a little intimated walking in. Also, they're located on the 11th floor of an office building which is atypical for me. I'm a NYC line cook and have been to many kitchen supply stores to pick up tools for work and home. This is by far the best for knives and knife gear and all types of small utensils. The place mostly sells to people in the industry. They're up in an office building and have no sign anywhere outside. A couple of my co-workers told me about the place and I went to buy a sharpening stone as I'm taking my knives to work now and need to sharpen them more often. I had been to Broadway Panhandler earlier that day, and the guy there tried to sell me the wrong type of stone, a softer one for Japanese knives rather than a harder one I need for my German knives (German knives are made of harder steel than Japanese knives). Prince had exactly what I needed, and @ $37 for a double-sided stone, the price was right. Other than the stone, I also bought a nice Japanese mandolin for $22, (the same type was $40 at Broadway), a Swiss paring knife for 4 bucks, a peeler for $2.50, and a small tongs for $1.50. They have a beautiful selection of German, French, and Japanese knives and stock only the best. As these knives are precision tools, the prices are rather steep, but remember they're long-term investments. They also have some superb French saute pans and braising pans which I have not seen at other supply stores. Check them out sometime, but remember the address when you go. It's a fun place to browse around even if, like me, you're too broke to buy the really nice stuff. read more

Best spot to go for chefs. Being in the physical just makes you want to buy. As some other reviewers have mentioned it is a smaller room but it is is packed full of goods. Even tho you could get some things cheaper online or in other stores the knowledgeable staff and organization pull your wallet out. Many things a reasonably priced and a lot of tools and small wares you couldn't get from the Chinatown kitchen stores. A must visit for chefs, culinary students and home cooks alike. read more
