I do not recommend Karla and her company. You pay a lot of money and you get lost and bounce around between "Justine" "Daniella" "Steven" "Auileen" and God knows who... You will not only loose money but you loose your sanity because they are incompetent and late with everything. They never return your call and you have to chase them one by one to get your returns in time. But when it comes to money, they take it up front. I went down the rabit hole with this karla company. I took all their "Training" and "Taxstrategy" courses they have online. They pretend that it's "LIVE" and they even pretend during the course communicate with audiences as they ask leave 1 if you are from California and leave 3 for this and that. It was embarassing to watch how stupid these people "Karla " and Karlton" consider other people . As this point of the game people with the lowest IQ can understand if something pre recorded or it's live. My experience to give my taxes to Karladennis was a nightmare. I was honest and earned my money and gave it to them. Before choosing this company just hover through her website and you take one of the courses which is later turns into a trap to take more money from you. Take the course and see how stupid they consider people. The same behavior is in their services and whatever they do for you. They won't get any blame and whatever they can't answer, They would say it's IRS. Very pathetic company! read more

Like I said I don't ever want to purposely harm a business, so I'm by default giving the KDA team 5 stars for their efforts and improved treatment...Not that me or my review are that important- (I'm not honorable judge and this isn't like an important verdict), but if it can give other interested clients an accurate portrayal of the services and getting KDA one extra client a month or a year, that's good because it adds up to the whole reputation of the firm. If you want to be ripped off, this is the firm for you... I called to book a meeting, essentially onboarding. I was quoted the most insane amount for the most simple return there is and literally laughed out loud at what I was told!!! Luckily - I had just spoken to 2 other companies whom both quoted the EXACT same amount. Meaning - they were in integrity quoted the exact same fair amount that wasn't even a fraction of what Karla Dennis quoted. I ended up going with a trustworthy company instead. When I told them what had happened, the company laughed out loud too and said that Karla Dennis & Associates ought to be ashamed of themselves. At a landlord tradeshow last year, I was introduced to Karla Dennis and Associates. Her speech and presentation was refreshing, and it got me interested in learning more. Being an African American, I always try to support other black owned businesses. I went to Karla Dennis and Associate's office and met with her son to discuss what they did and how they could help my business. I was given a price, and at the time I wasn't ready to move forward. A few months later I was ready to sign, so I made an appointment, and when I sat down to sign the contract, the price had gone up by over 50%. I signed the agreement in good faith, because at the time I felt their tax strategy would still help me in the long run. And although I realized I wasn't going to get Karla herself, I assumed since I was talking to her son, he would be the one I'd be working with. Instead I got Bill (William Mattila). He sent an email questioner which I completed before the meeting. On the day of my arrival Bill had me waiting nearly 45 minutes after my appointment time. He asked me the exact same questions that was completed in the email he sent me weeks before. He never bothered looking at my email or my answers. It began a pattern of unprofessionalism with the company. Over several months, Bill continued to disappoint. Calls going to voice mail, emails not responded to for over a month. Follow up emails not responded to either. Documents that were supposed to be uploaded to a portal that never got there. We had a number of conference calls to discuss tax strategies where he had current data he was discussing, data I wasn't able to see because he never uploaded them. After several months of underwhelming performance, I reached out to Karlton, the owner's son, and explained everting that had gone on since he signed me. I even forwarded all of the emails that didn't get responded to, the missed meetings etc. Karton said that from now on "all things David he would pay attention to." He then assigned me to Vershawn Britton. He informed me that she would be taking over and she would fix my issues. Upon our first few encounters I was rightfully frustrated and on the defensive as I had to bring her up to speed on all of my issues. Both the tax planning side as well as the tax return itself. As with Bill, I had several questions that never got answered. I went through several rounds of, non-responds to emails with both Vershawn and with Karlton. I purposefully CC'd them both with all correspondence. And to give them the benefit of the doubt, I asked them to add me to their email contacts so my emails would not get sent to spam. After waiting weeks for responses from either of them, I begin CC'ing Karla, the owner of the business into my emails (I never heard from Karla). Even then, it didn't help. From what I gather, turnover is an issue at the firm. Certain people had specific jobs, and no one was managing the entire process making sure things got done on the back end to make things smooth for their clients. Well at least on my case. Come tax time, I was emailed a document via DocuSign which required me to sign stating I received and understood their pricing sheet costs. Of course, there was no such file in the electronic form. I instead went to my appointment to discuss this in person. I asked the receptionist for a copy of the prices that both the DocuSign and their printed documents required me to do, and conveniently she didn't have it. She made a few calls, sent a few emails and couldn't produce one. I told it I would not sign an agreement with them if I had no idea what I was being charged. She said she would get back with me the following week. I waited two weeks then called her back. Her response was she had sent an email and didn't get a response. Not taking ownership is a trend at Karla Dennis and Associates. It took nearly a month and several follow up phone calls and emails in order to get their pricing sheet. And of course, they were drastically higher than when I met with them during my first meeting less than a year ago. In total I spent over $7,000.00 in between tax planning, tax filing, and incorporation of my business. I've never had to spend so much time or effort on a company I gave money to in order for them to do the job they promised. If you want to deal with a team of unprofessional tax planners whose empty apologies don't resolve your issues, who isn't concerned with making things right with their clients, you found the right company. If you want to deal with a team that treats you as a number, who makes you work to remind them to do what they are promised, you found the right tax planners. If you want to feel like you're the crazy one who's out of line because no one returns your emails, as they magically enter limbo, and your dates for deliverables and calls disappear from their knowledge, you guessed it, you've found the right company. read more

We fell through the cracks. Had 4 separate people/personal friends recommend us to Karla. Worst mistake ever! Ended up getting a new girl that was similar experience to going to H&R Block. Paid up the nose for taxes, no write offs, no personal experience, no help, went straight off our PNL. I am no CPA but some diving in would have yielded better write offs and deductions. THEN to boot. I was never contacted to do taxes the next year. Who runs their business that way? Karla Dennis. I was told they filed an automatic extension. Then never heard from anyone for over a year. Hired a new guy that re-did my taxes for 2017 (the year Karla Dennis filed) and got me a REFUND of the over paid taxes as well as filed my 2018 and 2019 with tons of write offs. Suggested ways for my company to save money as well as how to maximize my personal taxes. I got the excuse "Karla is retiring!". So my taxes never got done for 2018??? Not a happy customer read more

I've never owed the IRS before I not only had to pay them out the pocket taking my money without letting me know first draining my account on a holiday. I had to pay both state and federal then received another letter informing me of mistake leading me to owe more. Would not recommend services here. Found this company thru Dave Ramseys ELP, Passed around like a beach ball, i had to keep calling the office multiple times to get updates on the status of my file.. i was put on hold for excessively long wait times... 10 mins+ just to get an update... one girl came to the phone asking how i would take care of the remainder of the bill when i hadn't even received information on my file!.. I'm a 1099 and wasted multiple weeks. Very unprofessional.. i felt there was a lack of communication within the office.... i didnt get the "heart of a teacher" feeling as dave always promotes .. after multiple calls, there seemed to be a questionable response as to what i requested from the beginning from the owner after several weeks in. This company represents a prime example of lack of follow through. The only positive was that someone that I spoke with today, Rachel, actually gave me a timeline for a call back that she actually adhered to regarding a response from Karla Dennis' personal assistant or whoever does her scheduling for appointments. The lady that I spoke with last week didn't even give me a timeline for a response back regarding having some level of communication with Karla Dennis herself in any form. The odd part is that when I signed up for the complimentary consultation, I received an email 11/11/19 at 0526 stating via instructions that Karla Dennis would be calling me for consultation 11/14/19 at 10:00 a.m. PST for confirmation #12180345. However, I got someone named Khaleel Jenkins instead, who by his own admission upon my asking isn't even an actual CPA. He said he was new to the firm, & as I was told today, he's no longer even with the firm. From what he told me, he had no prior professional experience in the tax business, & I asked him some questions via text that he said 11/15/19 at 5:42 p.m. we'd discuss 11/16. However, he never got back with me at all, yet he expected me to sign an agreement to essentially pay $1500, of course without any liability. He had yet to answer all of my questions. After that, I took the time to get online to check out the reviews, & the google reviews were pretty negative. The positive reviews I found on yelp seemed to support Karla directly, from business owners. The associates or those outside of Karla herself seemed to be beyond questionable, kind of like what happened in regard to Khaleel this "Tax Strategist" disappearing on me last year. So, Rachel got back with me today & informed me that in order to have that same half hour consultation that was complimentary via phone last year with Khaleel with Karla Dennis herself instead, it would cost me $450. The other option was to have the same consultation with Karla's son, Karlton, & that it would cost $150 if done today. If done after today but with Karlton vs Karla herself, it wouldn't cost anything. Of course, what Karlton's credentials are, who knows. That's the problem with this company. You don't technically know who or what you're getting when you get on the phone with these people. The youtube videos that I watched were all of Karla, not her team or her son. I don't have money to burn, especially on people that are inexperienced & possibly not fully qualified to help me with all of my concerns. My advice to this business is that they be upfront & honest from the beginning when they send out their confirmations via email for consultations. If you know Karla Dennis won't be the person to call a potential client, then don't lie on the confirmation saying that Karla Dennis will call. It's a good idea for the "associates" to post some educational videos on youtube too, if they'll be handling clients taxes as Karla does. I didn't drop the ball last year. The firm's employee did, as he lacked follow through, & perhaps even more to carry through all that was needed. It's unprofessional to say the least for someone not to even get back with a potential client, & it creates a bad 1st impression. The reputation of this business doesn't rest upon just 1 person. The team that Rachel says they must have in place to handle the large clientele is an extension of Karla Dennis too, & if they look bad, it makes Karla & thus the business as a whole look bad too. Consumers don't want to feel as if they're being taken, & it's really frightening to me to see just how much people here have said they've spent with the firm & detail dissatisfaction. I spent nothing but time, & even that was disappointing just to be left hanging. I see some that mention spending 1000s, & I can't even imagine what for. If I spent 1000s with a firm, I had better been 100% satisfied, as I can pay well under Karla's 30 minute phone consultation fee of $450 to file all of my taxes, online by myself. I don't like to think I'm getting something or someone specific & then get the bait & switch, especially at some kind of upcharge just because of the timing of the year. It was a disservice to me, & that's why I will find another tax firm to assist me, one that doesn't lack follow-through & has more integrity as a whole. It's essentially like false advertisement to say you'll get this person & you get someone else. Karla needs to ensure that they hire people that are truly worthy & qualified, people that have follow-through, the credentials, & supporting experience to handle the cases that come through her firm. Otherwise, it's a disservice to the company & most importantly, the consumers that are considering entrusting the business by giving Karla Dennis & Associates their business. I don't want anything less, which is why I completely turned down any options to speak with someone else, as I asked for Karla upfront. I need surety, not maybes. read more
