Great place to come to relax to think about your day. Nice reception very friendly and I had a nice bowl of soup along with pie and coffee for under $8.Afterwards I checked out the great merchandise they had on display. Necklaces Avon products and not ti mention some great reading material. The one book that caught my eye immediately was silly silly me. Great children's book along with stickers and enclosed games. Not to mentioned Silly silly me tee shirts fir only $10 read more

History

Established in 2025.

The owner, Kim Finnegan wanted to create a community hub where local artistians, authors, bakers and other crafty vendors have a place to share their talent with the community. Kim has a degree in Bachelor Science in human services as well as a degree in political science and early childhood education. Thus allowed her to explore her creativity by doing poetry and even became a children's book author, titled "Silly Me". Her creativity has led her to this path of opening up KD's Place: Local Books & Art in November 2025.

Meet the Business Owner: Kim F.

Kim Finnegan aka KD, the owner and creator of KD'S PLACE Local Books & Arts. KD holds a bachelor's science degree in human services with undergraduate studies in criminal justice and early childhood education. She utilizes her degree and experience as a behavioral health and trauma healing coach. KD has also employed poetry as a therapeutic outlet to cope with past trauma, with the aim of using her poetic words to aid others dealing with similar experiences, earning her the moniker 'Sassy Soul Poet'. Her talent for writing poetry led to the creation of her first children's book, 'Silly Me', which focuses on sharing the love of others. Another aspiration of hers was to establish a community hub where local authors, artisans, and others could showcase their talents, resulting in the creation of KD'S PLACE Local Books & Arts. Upon recognizing the opportunity presented by The Rathskeller Café's search for a new tenant, she seized it.

They offer a wide selections of books, both well-loved (2nd-hand) and new, from Mystery, Romance, History, to Children's books. It is such a relaxing and peaceful experience to browse around the store, looking for a treasure to be found (You can also join their book club). If you are looking for a gift or souvenir, there are also small gifts such as stationary items or treats from local places like Lake Erie Candy Co. All the way in the back is a coffee shop that sources coffee from North Edge Craft Coffee (Erie's own roasting company), and a bakery, offering foods such as bagels and cupcakes. So far, I have only tried Chai tea latte and Dirty chai, but will definitely try other items in the future. My favourite part here, other than delicious drinks and books, are that they offer to buy back the book that you recently purchased, and will give you store credit to be used for your next purchase, or you can also bring in any books you currently own, and sell it to them for store credit. Grab a drinks, your favourite book and get lost in another world!

I walked out with gorgeous Matryoshka (Russian Doll), a hand-painted Russian egg with a church on it, and crystal-ish egg holder. I paid very reasonable price for these items considering that souvenirs from Russia are scarce right now. This space really offers very unique finds. VALUE: The prices vary. Each seller sets their own prices so they are all over the board. I would say that you can find items within any budget. Most items are well priced for antiques.
