Had fun with my pup here today. He always has a good time but I would've liked to see more grass.

Really large dog park for all size dogs. There is no separation of size or weight. There are a bunch of benches and chairs here, mostly placed under the trees to catch shade. The center of the park is all dirt, no shade or trees, and the outskirts of the park (with trees) have weeds underneath. Overall, still an alright park because it's huge and plenty of room for any size dog. There is also a cement building bathroom for humans directly outside the back of the dog park! Super awesome.

Just moved to the area and found this nearby dog park only 5 minutes away from me. My little baby doggy was happy!

This was our first time here. But I was up in the area and thought we'd try somewhere new. Cako pretty much likes anywhere she can take off and run. And of course, she took off and ran in her usual large perimeter circle and tries to get other dogs to chase her. The enclosed park is a good size. The only thing I don't like, and this is just a personal preference, is that most of the dog parks now, do not have grass. But Cako liked running around and meeting some of the other dogs there. Of course, there's always that one owner who has a slightly agressive dog, but this one kept watch instead of looking at his phone like I've seen some of the other careless dog owners do. A few of the dog owners on our visit, pretty much kept to themselves, a smile here and there. It also looks like the community takes care of it. There are a number of chairs to sit on, and plastic waste bags. Oh, and lot's of garbage cans. It's worth going to if you're in the area. Cako Approves!

This is Peter at home recovering from surgery after being attacked by two dogs at the dog park on Wednesday. I take Peter almost daily to the park and he absolutely loves it! He runs, plays, and runs some more. It's great exercise and he loves to socialize. However, on Wednesday when at the park a Great Dane started to play a bit rough and at one point Peter was rolled on his back. At which point another dog came out of nowhere and attacked Peter. The owner of the dog who attacked Peter was in a wheel chair and unable to control her dog. So I had to step in to separate the aggressive dog as Peter lay screaming and bleeding. It was absolutely horrific. I spent the evening at the emergency room where Peter was treated for two deep puncture wounds in his leg and another in his neck. If you are physically unable to restrain your dog, please please please do not go to a dog park. You risk the safety of your dog, other dogs, and even humans.

Decent dog park BUT there's a group of older people who come here with a bunch of badly behaved Huskies. This group crowds around talking, doesn't pay much attention to what their dogs are doing/who their dogs are pestering and then when they are paying attention they blame other dogs even though their dogs are the ones causing problems. I was there this evening and this older woman's female Husky got on top of a young, male Husky, she was barking, growling and pinning him down. The owner was standing there watching and not pulling her dog off when the other dog clearly wanted to get away. Finally, I walked over to help the poor pup that was trying to get away from that lady's terribly behaved dog and the woman had the audacity to say "it's just her motherly instinct, she's trying to get that dog to stop being submissive." I looked at her and told her that that wasn't okay, the dog was trying to get up and get away from her dog and was not bothering her dog at all. She has no right to let her dog bully someone else's dog like that. Eventually it will cause a serious fight and her dog will get hurt and then she's gonna be upset. Long story short, these people and their huskies always cause problems, I've heard many people complain about them and I've seen their dogs go after MANY other dogs for absolutely no reason. These people need to stay out of the dog park if them and their dogs can't behave and play nice. They should just go on a group walk together if they want to socialize. Other than that, this is a nice dog park. There are tons of balls and frisbees laying around, lots of baskets for toys, a couple of trash cans, pooper scoopers and a good amount of seating. P. S. I have nothing against Huskies, they're typically high energy, playful, silly and cute but these ones AND their owners are very rude, and badly behaved. I'm sure the dogs are great one on one but they don't belong in a dog park.

The park in September 2019. No grass at all!

Even street parking was full so I circled around couple times until I found one of the little league parents getting ready to leave. I got a little confused about where the dog park was because there's no fenced area. I asked one of the ladies sitting at the bench and she pointed at the picnic tables further in the park and said that's the dog park. There were only two dogs there but Gibbs had a blast playing with them in the unfenced area. The grass was in relatively good shape and the area was pretty clean. The only down side was there's no water fountain for the dogs. There was a bucket of water probably provided by some nice dog owner. I brought my own water bottle for Gibbs but the other dog owner didn't have water for her dog so we shared the one I had. Overall it's pretty nice for the dogs and for me because the view there was nice too.

The dogs used to run around and through the playground, and the new fence helps distance the dogs from the playground. The off-leash area is not completely fenced so if you're dog is a runner, this is not the park for you. I had a big rescue mastiff who would randomly get in fights with other dogs, even after I muzzled him so I stopped going. My other dog died a year ago, and the mastiff recently succumbed to cancer. :( I now have a 10-pound toy fox terrier, and I just don't feel safe taking her to the park with all the big dogs. It just takes a second for her to get trampled or attacked by a bigger dog, and I don't want to risk it. I will sometimes take her late in the day when there are only 1 or 2 dogs about. We have a big yard though, so she has the opportunity to run around off-leash at home. The dogs and owners here are very friendly for the most part. Although someone commented that the dogs don't necessarily interact that much, if you go regularly your dog will make doggie friends and you will probably make friends with other owners. People are very chatty, so you do need to not get distracted and miss seeing your dog pooping so you can clean it up. I think most owners pick up after their dogs, although you will sometimes find abandoned poop on the periphery near the canyon. There is a poop bag dispenser available. There are not any tables or chairs within the fenced off-leash area so people will often have their dogs off-leash on the wrong side of the fence (by the playground) so they can sit down. There is disappointedly no water source for doggy drinking water, although I know of at least one regular who has a key to the water and fills up a bucket during the after work bust time. Some people take their dogs onto the fully fenced baseball fields when they're not being used for a game/practice. I'm sure this is prohibited, but I've never seen or heard of anyone getting in trouble for this. There are restrooms, but I'm not sure when they're open. I've never needed to use them since I literally live next door to the park. There is a parking lot and on street parking, but parking can get very crowded during Little League games.

Small dogs and large dogs have their own areas. On the small dog side they have a pretty big patio area with a ton of chairs and some tables. There is a shade over the corner area which is nice. They also have a big dog bowl and a hose- useful for washing down pee and filling the dog bowl. There is plenty of grass and it's a decent size for little dogs. I believe there are Chihuahua and pomeranian meetups there on a regular. I happened to be having a pug meetup on a Sunday. There were several people who seemed like regulars just sitting, chilling in the shade and letting their dogs run around so I feel like it's somewhere u can go hang for a bit. Everyone was nice. Several people commented that it was a great park. We will have to go back.

Maybe they need a scale near the gate because some of these pooches inside the premises were well over that weight limit. There were two separate off-leash pens, one for the smalls and another for the biggies. Over the years, there have been multiple attempts to renovate and upgrade this park with mixed results. The parking lot was reasonably large and could hold several dozen vehicles. A port-a-john facility was available along with picnic tables (including a canopy) and several chairs for owners to chill. Water bowls and fountains plus tennis balls for the doggies were plentiful. I did notice that the grass was quite worn down so there were lots of dirt patches. When it rains, you get many muddy puddles. As long as the humans acted responsibly like picking up the poop of their puppy, then this spot is a decent option to let your furry friend run around if you live nearby. Capehart Dog Park is middle of the pack for a city-owned dog park, therefore a three star rating was warranted.

In the fenced dog park, we've had the good fortune of nearly always coming across other friendly dogs & dog guardians (with only one exception that happened a few years ago) so I feel like that's been pretty great for us socially. The terrain at Fiesta island is slightly rocky, hard packed sand and looser sand closer to the shoreline. I usually wear flip flops if I'm going to play with Cali in the water, but sneakers or trail shoes can also be practical here to avoid stubbed toes on the steeper inclines. We can easily get close to 10,000 steps just walking around the perimeter of the dog area. The walking path for all of Fiesta Island is 4.2 miles! In the springtime, the dog park has experienced wildflower superblooms which are magnificent to witness. There are a few benches under the copse of trees, but otherwise, if you want to sit, it'll be on sand or a chair or blanket you brought. Make sure you bring plenty of drinking water! It can get very hot, and there's no public potable water in the park. Recreationally, I have also had the pleasure of riding a horse at Fiesta as well. So much fun! Fiesta does mean party after all, right? I've seen all sorts of other recreational things happening at Fiesta outside of the dog park area, too... kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, grilling, chilling, and enjoying the water. Of course, there are designated fire pits! I've also seen a little 4x4 action on the sand, boating, kiteboarding, and model airplane flying... Fiesta really does have something for everyone. Notes: It can get very busy and crowded in the summer though so I avoid it on days when I know everyone is going to be out! Portapotties here and there... not that many though! "Fiesta Island, situated within Mission Bay, is a sprawling park that attracts numerous charity walks, runs, bicycle races and special events. It is particularly renowned as the host of the annual Over-the-Line tournament. Accessible from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, this peninsula offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. Notably, Fiesta Island welcomes both dogs and horses, making it a pet-friendly haven. Dogs can roam freely, either on or off leash, but owners are kindly reminded to clean up after their pets. On the island, visitors can find the Fiesta Island Youth Camp and the Aquatic Center, which cater to the community's diverse interests and needs. To ensure safety and preserve the environment, fires are permitted exclusively within the city-provided fire rings that dot the island's shoreline. These fire rings operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Portable fire containers and fires directly on the sand are strictly prohibited. For water sports enthusiasts, there is a designated 5 m.p.h. zone on the island's east side, which serves as a favored spot for recreational activities. Additionally, there is a permitted water ski area called Hidden Cove, and those interested in water skiing can obtain permits exclusively from the City of Diego Lifeguards at their headquarters, located at 2581 Quivira Court." The big dog park use to have grass and now and for the past several year it's just DIRT. The small dog park also use to have grass but now it's those weird dry grass stuff and dirt. The small dog park isn't as used as the big dog park. And if the big dog park is closed off for cleaning everyone moves their big dogs into the small dog park (which is tiny) and there isn't room for small dogs to play safely. Wednesdays some of the neighbor peeps meet up in the grass area. I bring my new dog there to socialize her and she refuses to leave. She will lay on the grass and won't get up when it's time to leave. I have a soft spot for this park as I've seen it transform from it being just a dump to what it is now. We heart North Park.
