I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes, but for tax year 2020, TT got "stuck" with one line involving the sale of an energy company that issued a K-1. I filed for an extension because I couldn't figure out how to fill out that one line. A friend suggested I contact Robert. I uploaded a screen shot of the problematic TT line, and he and I discussed it by phone. In less than five minutes, Robert told me what number to fill in. He didn't charge me for it. We've used them for years. They are a little slower than we'd like. But they are always friendly and generous with their time.

Robert was good at one time, but his service has steadily declined once his partner retired. There were errors in my curret and prior year return which I had to spend a lot of time to uncover. They would have cost me thousands of dollars in extra taxes. They promise that corrections will be done in a reasonable time period but this seldom occurs with ongoing delays. Robert is a CPA and enrolled against, but his services are no longer of professional quality, and I can no longer recommend them. read more

As a business owner myself, I would never write a bad comment about someone's business unless I felt as though they intentionally provided a disservice. I started with Robert in 2010 and initially felt that he was a good accountant as well as a nice, honest guy. His company Kearny Mesa Tax "KMT" provided both bookkeeping and tax filing. He provided good service back then but as his business grew over the years, his quality of work declined. He waited literally to the last day to file my taxes and did not project accurate tax withholding even when I provided necessary files months in advance. After my 2015 tax returns and paying thousands more than expected I finally decided to switch to a CPA/Lawyer/Ex-IRS with higher credentials recommended by others in my field. I was currently in the process of buying a house and needed updated 2016 books for underwriting. In order for my new CPA to start bookkeeping they requested to use the past Quickbook files from Robert to continue where he left off. I asked Robert multiple times for these files but I could tell he was bitter that I switched accountants. He simply replied that his company does not provide past Quickbook files. I even offered to pay him $150 or whatever he felt was reasonable plus shipping/handling for these documents which I felt I already paid for. I even spoke with a few other accountants who stated this is unusual unless there is something to hide or simply bitterness to the idea of losing a client. After review with my new CPA I now believe he did not want to provide those documents because he was aware of potential mistakes made. I am now having my past year 2 year books reviewed and retroactively filing to recoup any money that could have been saved. If you are using KMT, I caution you to pay close attention to the services provided by Robert and his team as you may feel important at the start but become second best due to procrastination on his behalf. read more

This was our second year with CPA Robert after a friend recommended him. We decided we wanted help with our taxes after getting married and filing in different states but jointly for federal, which was overwhelming. He made this whole process easy. He is a nice, positive and personable guy and gets our taxes done within an hour. He is available by phone and email and meetings if we need help during other times of the year. They were good once upon a time, hence the two stars instead of one star. You know, other than Robert being hard to get ahold of in the off season and putting us off over and over. Then this big screwup happened, he resented being asked to fix it, and then once he did he disappeared, even conveniently never returned my call. Now we find out that in the years we worked with him we should have done something differently, even though he knew about this very issue because we discussed it, and now we'll owe big time.
