Keavan's Port is an interesting place on Camden Street. It recently opened after a major refurbishing by J D Weatherspoon, a UK chain known for reasonably-priced pubs. It looks like it should be an upscale restaurant but it's not.
The place is huge. I'm not even sure I saw the entire thing. You enter into an indoor courtyard with a soaring glass atrium. Behind that is a quiet, old chapel where you can dine. Downstairs is a pub and a lovely patio for drinking and dining outdoors, if the weather agrees.
Prices are pretty incredible. the meals come with a drink included. I think my sirloin was €15.95, and it included a jacket potato and a pint of stout. It was far from the best steak I've ever had, but it was one of the better I've had for that price.
Keavan's Port didn't open that long ago, and it still had some rough edges. The menu says you can order additional toppings for the jacket potato, but the online menu doesn't seem to allow it, nor could the server at the till figure out how to make it happen. And I ordered an Abbott Ale, only to find out they were out.
It's a fine place for a cheap bite or some affordable drinks. Expect crowds if you come on weekend evenings! read more
