The staff are indeed actual Turkish natives and not just some local people like some takeaways you encounter, and attempt to try and make the food here flavoursome enough, as far as late night grease goes. I once had a kebab and chip out of here after one too many lemonades at the union and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it went down easy and did not repeat on me the next day!The shop's name also reminds me of my holiday to Marmaris last year which was fantastic, the thought makes me want to scuba dive so bad! I have to sign off by showing my one gripe about this place: it replaced the Burger Bar, which was the best late night food in the area!I would actually have willingly ate it sober, which is a bold statement indeed! Not that I did mind you, which may hint why it no longer exists.....

So when I go, I can feel ok about ordering the most disastrous thing on the menu (ladies and gentlemen; the curry chip with cheese!) as its now, technically, in my very bias opinion, a rare treat. Marmaris is a Turkish Kebab house, but also accommodates most products a bog standard chip shop would do. Everything is always cooked perfectly and tastes very nice as a snack after a night out. It's not a place to take a girl (although, I will shake your hand if you do), but it is the place to grab a bite with the guys after a night out.

If I owned a Mediterranean/ falafel restaurant in Belfast right now I would be really worried,…read morebecause there's some serious competition on the scene. I've just had THE BEST falafel platter I've tasted in a very long time - in the recently opened Levantine on Callender Street. Absolutely delicious! Everything is vegetarian and there are loads of vegan dishes to choose from off a large menu consisting of platters, wraps, tagines, mezzas, soups and salads. Cannot wait to come back and try the eggplant falafel wrap, chilli and meat-free veggie balls...

The next 2 times however has been quite disappointing. 1. The ordering is a nightmare. They don't give you a number and don't remember who ordered so it's a bit of a free for all. No idea why they can't call out numbers on the receipt. Each time we go, someone is pissed about having waited too long. 2. The first time we went, we got hummus on the side of a delicious Halloumi wrap but the next time, there was no hummus and the wrap was completely devoid of any dressing and didn't have much filling at all. The lack of consistency is not appealing. If they manage to stick to consistent food and finally sort out their ordering process, this can be the best middle-eastern food in Belfast (in spite of being vegetarian!)

And I too had that sentimentality when I was reading their reviews. I became awash with fuzzy memories of ordering food I simply could not eat and having a conversation with someone I couldn't focus on about a topic which was probably something to do with Miley Cyrus... But then the Yelper in me kicked in and I have to give an honest assessment of what kind of takeaway this place is because that is my job. It's dreadful. Shocking. Vile. The food is terrible. Like really terrible. Honestly it is not pleasant at all. Seriously avoid. Sentimentality is all well and good. But getting sick is not. Seriously avoid.

I'm giving Esperanto five stars and having read a few other reviews I think you people are way to…read moreharsh. Think about it folks - you've been in Hunters, The Bot, The Egg, The Parlour or The Union and you are drunkenly dragging your sorry ass back to your horrible little student dive off the Lisburn Road when suddenly your brain tells you to eat something in order to keep the hangover at bay. Where are you going to go? What are you going to have? Well it's pretty damn obvious to me that your drunken legs are going to carry your sorry state into Esperanto's. And why not, every other drunken student is in there. This place has its place in the world and drunken students mouths is that place. They serve kebab - a staple of any student night out. They sell chips and coke and pizza and stuff - stuff that will taste amazing at the time but not so good the next day or the day after or the day after as the kebab and onions repeats and repeats and repeats. You can get all that for a few bob - the change from a Jaegerbomb is enough to fill your face - now could you fail to give this place a top rating. This place does what it does for the drunks of Belfast as I for one think it does it well. All Hail Esperanto's!
