I tried a snowshoe tour with Bear Trax 4 years ago and absolutely loved it! I've been going back every year since and have a tried 3 different tours. Each year I've convinced a few friends to come with me and now they're all hooked too! The company is very well-organized and the tours are very enjoyable. They always bring 2 guides along so you can go at your own pace and stop as often as you need to. The guides each bring water, snacks and a backpack to collect your excess clothes as you start to get warm on the hike and take layers off. You can also bring your own water and backpack if you prefer. You wear your own boots and just clip into the snowshoes, so you know for sure your boots will fit and you'll be comfortable. They also provide poles. For true beginners, I recommend the Classic Killington Tour. It's a really good way to get used to snow shoeing, as you walk across a golf course. There are some challenging uphill sections but mostly you get some good exercise outdoors with beautiful scenery. My favorite tour is the Top of Snowshed + Lunch at the Ledgewood Yurt. You hike up through the woods and it feels like you're off-roading. About an hour later, you arrive at the Ledgewood Yurt where you can stop and enjoy lunch and drinks (their bloody mary's are awesome). When the group is done, you trek back down together. I highly recommend you try a snowshoe tour and see for yourself!

Coolidge is nice and quiet, and if you reserve a prime leanto, you'll be rewarded with gorgeous views out over the mountain too. This park is located near Ludlow, VT - we always stop at Tacos Tacos and also the Green Mountain Sugar House (for maple creemees). The park is located up a steep road, and you check in at the ranger station. We usually rent a prime leanto (plan on booking far ahead of time), but we have also stayed at a regular campsite too. The prime leantos are nice, because they have nice privacy and a gorgeous view. The leantos are great in case of inclement weather. Bathrooms are about typical for a VT state park. The usual bathrooms, sinks, and showers. Sometimes these are a walk from the campsite, so plan accordingly if you have kids. There isn't a whole lot to do within the park, other than hiking (which is nice). There is a small playground and nature center on site. If you want to go to a beach, you can use Camp Plymouth State Park free with your car hang tag from Coolidge. I believe it takes just over 10 minutes to get to Camp Plymouth, so it isn't far. We love how nice this park is and how quiet it is, plus it is beautiful and you can enjoy nice hiking trails.

I came across this B&B because my daughter had just moved to Vermont and I was looking for a B&B to stay at. I wanted something nice because it was my first time going to Vermont. I was so happy I had found this place, it was a wonderful experience. The B&B and farm was so beautiful. The owners were amazing and the nicest people. I'm sorry I can't remember their names. I had a room on the first floor. I remember mentioning to her that I was visiting my daughter and that I wish I could cook my daughter her favorite meals. The owner mentioned that they had an apartment like room on the 2nd floor with a kitchen that was already reserved, however if the people who reserved it don't show up, I could have the room. They did not show up so I got that beautiful room with a outside porch and beautiful view. My daughter even slept over for a couple of nights and I was able to cook some of her favorite meals. The stay included breakfast which was the best. The house was so charming. It was the best experience I ever had. The following year I drove and called to book a room and found out no pets were allowed. I was devastated. I would have been a life long customer. I highly recommend this B&B. Even so, I'm not sure it would have made a big difference since you don't really get a clear view of the gorge unless you lean over a not-so-cute metal fence, and there are no photo opportunities if you want you and the gorge in the same pic. It really feels like there should be a trail or viewing area closer to the gorge itself. The visitor center is small but cute, with a little museum and a small gift shop, which was nice to briefly check out. Overall, I'd say it's not really worth the stop if you already have a packed itinerary. If you do go, the best approach is honestly just to walk across the bridge quickly and take a look from there, but I'd skip the trail. I am glad it's on protected land though and that it is being maintained so well. It just is an odd spot to have such large hype.

We thought we had found a hidden gem…read more Our first impression was very positive. The campground is small and quaint, with a beautiful setting that includes a river and a pool. The owners were friendly when we arrived, and we were looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately, our experience changed after we checked in. We were assigned a site in the seasonal section of the campground. While some seasonal campers were friendly at first, the atmosphere quickly felt cliquish, and we never felt truly welcome as short-term guests. The owner frequently drove or walked through the campground checking campsites while openly carrying a firearm. While that may be his personal choice, it made us feel uncomfortable. We also received complaints from neighboring seasonal campers over what we felt were very minor issues, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy our vacation. One of the campground's biggest attractions, the river, wasn't usable during our stay because the water level was too low. The pool was clean but fairly basic. Overall, the campground has a beautiful location and plenty of potential, but the atmosphere overshadowed those positives. We left with the impression that transient campers are not made to feel as welcome but the same feeling for new seasonal campers. Based on our experience, we would not return or recommend this campground to others looking for a relaxing and welcoming camping experience.

Beautiful property that is extremely clean and well thought out with the layout. I particularly liked the group camp area for families as well as the cleanliness of the pool. I occupied a tent space and it was exactly what I needed as a local looking for the woodsy camping experience without having to go far. The restrooms are unlike any campground bathrooms you have ever seen. Beautiful mirrors and vanity shelves with amazing soaps. The showers are just off the restrooms and each shower stall has its own changing area and private entrance. My boyfriend spent time talking with the owners and it appears they may be converting an old ship into a home away from home. It's gorgeous. I absolutely cannot wait to return and see how things have progressed for them as they were just weeks into ownership when we visited. I highly recommend this location.
