We rented a storage unit for several months in 2024 while were selling our house and then moving into a new house. The facility is very conveniently located for our needs; it's clean, secure, and easy to access. The manager, James, lives next door to the facility and is very responsive. Me and my family had homes throughout Nevada County from Grass Valley to Truckee for the past, almost 20 years. We've alway used Keep-it Storage as our home base for all our home items. James is super helpful from every facet of the process working with us in every possible way, from forgetting our locker key at home in the Bay Area to forgetting to update our CC numbers. besides, my sister just sadly passed away. i also had some of her things in my storages. her husband asked me for a few items. i was so embarrassed that i had to tell him that my precious items were illegally auctioned off! james and the owner are scammers! that's how they make extra money! god knows the truth and my attorney will prove it! yes, i have receipts that i had over $30k of precious items in my two storages. oh well? that's what happens to dishonest people like the mgr james and the pathetic owner lauren!! i told james that i'm not going away! who knows if he even told the selfish owner lauren! i fight for what is right! this place just scammes people or i would nit be in this situation! this keep it self storage should be shut down! hopefully after my attorney and court date, it will be! see, james has no proof that he tried to contact me. but, i'm smart and kept all his messages and text! read more

18 Months of Theft, Missing Footage, Insurance Confusion, and Lien Concerns…read more I've rented storage at this facility with my partner since 2024. Over that time we've dealt with four big issues that other tenants should know about: 1: Theft and missing camera footage. 2: Confusing insurance information. 3: Maintenance and conditions. 4: Questions about lien notices. 1: Theft and missing camera footage A large amount of our property went missing from our unit. When we reported it, we asked for an incident report and for security video to be preserved and reviewed. We later made written preservation requests. We were eventually told the relevant footage was no longer available / had been overwritten. That was a huge blow and left us with no way to see what actually happened. 2: Confusing insurance information At move‑in and later, different managers told us different coverage amounts for the same policy (first a higher number, then a lower number). When we finally saw the paperwork after the loss, the written limit did not match what we'd originally been told. That mismatch, after a major loss, was extremely frustrating. 3: Maintenance and conditions We had repeated issues with water and temperature in our spaces over time and felt the response did not match what we thought we were paying for. We raised concerns more than once and were not satisfied with how they were handled. 4: Questions about lien notices When the account became disputed and lien notices started, we received an email from management explaining that:Notices were sent using a "certificate of mailing," and Legal ads ran in the Auburn Journal. From my own reading of California's Self‑Service Storage Facility Act, lien notices refer to certified mail, and publication is supposed to be in a paper "freely accessible to the public." The Auburn Journal's legal notices are behind a paywall. I'm not a lawyer, but those details have raised serious questions for me about whether the process here lines up with the statute. There is also a public court case in Placer County (Dentoni v. Colfax Mini Storage, LLC) where another customer at this same facility is challenging very similar lien‑notice practices. Seeing the same methods challenged in another case at this location makes me think our experience is not unique. Because of all this, I personally would not rent here again and would urge anyone considering it to: Get all insurance details in writing and keep copies. Better yet, source your own rental unit insurance. It goes up steadily, and these stprage unit prices keep jumping up steadily too. Document any problems and responses carefully.Learn the basics of California's storage lien laws, is my advice. If you've had similar experiences with theft, missing footage, confusing insurance information, or lien notices here and are willing to talk, you can reach me at westonmacrae@gmail.com. It helps if we stick together as consumers, so other people don't get violated once we have experienced it for ourselves. Thanks to all that share experiences, I've been warned in advance several times by people sharing their experiences on this app in other industries, so, thanks to you all. With us being in a time crunch and stressed out (our first PCS as military members) we found this place and decided to give them a call. A guy answered and was so kind. His name was Ralph! Within minutes we were able to get there & they assisted us in getting our storage. They were super kind and I am so glad that we ended up at this place. My husband says that is probably one of the best customer service he ever had. The pricing and security and value of the place is great. It was clean as well. Ralph & Santiaga were amazing and we are really happy about their service. Especially in a stressful and difficult time.. they genuinely helped us out. Ralph even came out and gave us some tips on unloading which helped us return our U-Haul in time. I normally don't leave reviews.. but they differently deserved it. They also helped us find a perfect storage that would let us drive our 26ft long U-Haul around no problem.

We have been customers of Keep-It-Self Storage, formerly 49er Self Storage for 20 years. We frequent our storage unit 2-3 times per week.Over the years we have seen many managers and want to give a shout out to James who is absolutely the best manager they have had. He is hard working, helpful, attentive to customers needs and honest. This is a great place to store your belongings and James offers great customer service and keeps the premises safe and clean. We are grateful that James is available for any needs that we may have. We have recommended Keep-It Self Storage to many people and will continue to do so. With James living on-site and hands on; makes us comfortable knowing he watches over the premises and this gives us a greater sense of security for us. We find James' dogs to be an added layer of security and anyone who takes the time to get to know James and his dogs will soon realize they are very well trained, never off leash and not dangerous. In the approximate 20 years of renting space at Keep It Storage, I have experienced nothing but outstanding service!!!!! The security of my belongings has never been in question and the grounds are always extremely well maintained year round/year after year. James, the wonderful manager, has always been very helpful, he is easy to communicate with and I would not think of renting storage space from any other business. I appreciate having the dogs on the premises as a security measure, especially nowadays. James, and the previous managers, have always demonstrated the utmost professionalism. My items that are stored at Keep It are very safe and secured. The manager does an amazing job at making sure his tenants are tended to. I always see him working and improving the facility when I've stopped by to rearrange my things or need assistance loading/unloading large items. He is always pleasant and willing to help me even when he busy. The dogs he has are sweet and we'll behaved. They're great to have for added security and protection they always have their ears open and monitor from his deck. James is very accommodating and very professional. I want to say that keep it self storage is the most cleanest place I have been to. James that runs it, is amazing and very helpful and attentive. Every time my mom and I have been there he has made a point to come down and ask if we need help with anything. I have rented from Keep it self storage for a very long time, grounds are maintained and clean. Manager is extremely helpful and thoughtful. Yes his Dogs are large, but in the 6 plus years of me stopping By never once have they been loose or dangerous. Not sure why this other person is going on a rant, ( drugs maybe)? I rented a unit for a bit over four years. The owner James lives on site and on numerous occasions when I showed up with a large item in my truck, came to ask if I needed help. Never had any problems with water intrusion or pests. The prices never exceeded the other local units for similar size. Highly recommended. read more
