In my opinion, don't offer a program for the younger kids if you get overstimulated and overwhelmed to the point where you're abusing the parents' money and neglecting your due diligence to build children up by teaching the art you claim to love. Southstar Dance Academy is one of our favorite establishments in Lawton. The staff is so friendly and Ms Shaelyn is very patient with the little dancers. My child enjoys dancing because of this studio. She grew bored of so many other activities but SSDA has held her attention week after week. We are so sad to move bc SSDA has given us great memories but if and when we move back to Oklahoma, we know we'll be back at SSDA.

Our 3 year old great granddaughter took dance lessons here from September 2025 thru May 2026. She…read moreloved it! Her recital was on May 30, 2026. She was so excited when she got there, all dressed up in her costume! 12 family members purchased tickets and attended. She had one dance. When her group went onstage in the dark, we heard crying. It was her. The director scooped her up and took her offstage. She was not allowed to return to her group when the lights came up, not allowed the chance to dance (though she knew it by heart) and had to sit out. The director explained to her mom the she couldn't have crying on the video. So, after the thousands of dollars spent, including recital and picture fees, our 3 year old was not allowed to participate. We were so disappointed! Kudos to her parents for blaming the director and not a 3 year old child! The director did not live up to the values posted on this site, two of which are "to instill self-confidence" and "to instill self-respect". Though it win't make up for this, It would be appropriate, at this point, for the director to offer to return all the recital fees and also offer the parents an apology. We shall see what happens.

Our daughter has been doing dance classes at Tippi toes for two years, and it has been wonderful…read more She loves it, the instructors are wonderful, and we love the way it is set up. The classes come to the kids at their schools, daycares, mothers-day-outs, or local community centers. For us, it requires almost no extra planning or shuffling. We just send dance clothes with her to her mothers-day-out on her class day, and her teachers get her changed. Classes are downstairs, and last for 45 minutes. If it required another schlep across town, I'm honestly not sure if I could have added it, with my work schedule and my already-busy moving of the children schedule. The way this is set up, she gets to do it, and we get a fun Saturday recital, once in the winter and once at the end of the year. For us, the cost is reasonable. It runs $50 a month, plus the price of the recital costumes, $50, twice per year. She loves it, and we love that she gets to do it, without making me more of a stressed-out mommy. I hope the people running it are making a million dollars because they're so sweet and doing such a good job with our kiddos.
