Luke was able to get me in the next day after being in constant back pain for 2 weeks. I did have to plead my case ! Had spent 2 weeks on the couch and finally got a mri showing a ruptured disk. Dr Kumar analyzed my images and slipped needle into my L3 to quiet the nerve . Today I woke up pain free and able to start life again. I'm 77 years old and had a very active life mountain biking, soccer, basketball, and a lot of golf the last 20 years. About 20 years ago I could begin feeling pain in my left leg, sciatica. MRI imaging severe stenosis at L4-L5. I did years of physical therapy but the pain progressed until I needed something else. I've been going to Dr. Kumar for almost four years now for an injection every three months to quite things down. I was in a car accident back in 2018 that left me suffering with severe nerve pain. I was living in NY at the time and I saw over a dozen specialists and surgeons who all said my only option for pain relief was a multilevel spinal fusion. One surgeon at the HSS in NYC offered a cervical injection as a temporary alternative, indicating it would help hold me over until we could get a surgery scheduled. I received only one cervical injection from him and swore I'd never do it again. Though my pain was still severe, I was adamantly against being fused and my search for pain relief continued. In 2019, I had a consult with an orthopedic surgeon here in San Diego who agreed that I was too young to start fusing my spine but understood my pain needed to be addressed. It was then that he referred me to Dr. Kumar. I have been seeing Dr. Kumar for about 4 years now but I remember our first office visit like it was yesterday. I was so nervous because of the bad reaction I had from the cervical injection done in NY. I told Dr. Kumar, in detail, about my previous experience. He was attentive and reassuring. He explained what had likely happened during my NY injection (based off my description of the event) and why that wouldn't happen under his care. He reviewed my imaging with me and decided injection was the way to go. Even though I was still a little nervous, I trusted him and I'm glad I did. I now secretly (but I guess not so secretly anymore) refer to Dr. Kumar as a magician. I never have any discomfort during my injections nor do I experience any side effects like those I suffered after my injection in NYC. From day one, Dr. Kumar has given me the time and the care I need every time I see him and, four years later, I'm still fusion free. If you're reading this review it's likely because you're in pain and searching for answers. Please know, while injections can help a lot of people, everyone responds to them in their own way. Injections always have the potential of being uncomfortable and/or may cause an initial increase in pain before relief sets in. Some people experience the effects immediately while others might feel the effects days later. It might only take one injection to lessen your pain or it might take several rounds. There's also the chance that injections simply won't work for you, depending on your circumstances. But for me, once I found Dr. Kumar, I was finally able to get back to living my life without opening the Pandora's Box that is spinal fusion. Dr. Kumar was recommended to me for pain management. After my procedure, I had no relief and got my menstrual period as a result. I called the office 3 times to ask about this reaction and nobody ever called me back - ever. When I saw the orthopedic doctor who recommended Dr. Kumar, there was a difference in what Dr. Kumar's office reported they did and what the orthopedic doctor recommended be done. The staff comment to me was something to the effect that things don't always get documented correctly but they were sure he did the right spot. Well, I'm not sure and certainly would have expected someone to call me back when I called their office 3 times. No follow-up at all. I must start by saying how patient and understanding the staff and Doctor Kumar are. They treat you like an individual, not a number.
