In 2013 I rented a condo and Keffer Realty was the property manager. They were amazing! If I ever needed anything, it was done promptly. Mr. Keffer was always responsive to my emails and phone calls. In 2017, I started looking for a home to purchase. After 3 fails with someone from a different company, I paused my search. I had already put in my notice at the condo and Mr. Keffer was able to work his magic and convince the owner to allow me to go month to month. I decided to start my search again and went with John Keffer as my realtor. Hands down, 100% different experience. As this was my first time purchasing a home, John made it very easy for me and if there was a problem that popped up, he had the solution before he even discussed it with me. I closed on time and he held my hand throughout the entire process. I'm sure that was no easy task for him. Thanks to John and Keffer Realty, this single mom has a beautiful home and my 7 year old daughter loves it. I highly recommend Keffer Realty. They are honest, knowledgeable and compassionate. a family company full of heartless scammers. they don't care about you, just your money. you better pray you don't have any unexpected financial hardships because they aren't flexible at all when it comes to money. they try to make up excuses for all their 1 star reviews basically saying the same thing about the company. very inconsistent as well as the landlord didn't even sign like 3 areas on my lease. Never even sent me an updated lease when it renewed or when they updated any information. dont hire real maintenance men, just handy men that have learned skills. had inconsistent hot water over a month. Finally got a new water heater and when the water was still getting cold, I told them and they finally hired a real plumber to come out and tell me nothing was wrong w the heater. then they try to charge me $220 (trying to fight me on it mind you) for someone just checking a water heater, and it wasn't even in my lease. I needed to ask them to point it out for them to realize it wasn't. news flash the water still gets cold after 15 mins. didnt feel like dealing with unnecessary fines for a deeper problem they are too cheap to look deeper into. do yourself a favor and stay away. you are better off on FB market place lol. read more

SCAM! This realty is very nasty and rude to their tenants. The landlord Jackie Pierce is so rude and nasty to and talks very bad to her tenants. I asked to have things fixed and I have to wait days or even weeks before it's done. My kids and I have sat in this house for over 2 weeks with no AC because she refuses to have someone to come look at the unit. She has also talk bad about to me to another landlord, and which made me not be able to get approved for another property. Her electrician is also rude and nasty and as well. When he comes to fix the AC unit he talks bad about me and says smart remarks. I overheard her having a conversation with someone and she says out loud "when is her lease up, I'm sick of her". She has been threatening me that she will not renew my lease for the 4-5 years I've been at this property. I've done work and things to this house that she hasn't paid, that's I've asked her numerous of times to come fix. The roof has dark water stains from the leaks when it rains and that still haven't been fixed and I've been here since 2020. This stay at this residence has been nothing but miserable because of her, I never felt comfortable calling her for anything that needs to be fixed but she doesn't like me or always talks rude and nasty to me when I call for something in regards to the property. She also has written a notice that I have 60 days to be off the property without given me any private notice to do so. She has had future tenants come to my property without my prior knowledge and had pot a lock box on the door as well. She knows I have children and she chose to do this right before my children starts school, she's very very hateful and I don't wish this on experience on anyone. My children don't deserve this and neither do I. So save yourself. I will not refer anyone to this realty or Jackie Pierce. She is a true definition of an evil person. read more

This company does not take care of its rental property. This home was advertised as beautiful recently re Hab. Home....well I won't give the address but company is refusing to give back security deposit and 1st month to a young military couple with infant child.. home is infested with roaches, but if they did an inspection on this home they would have seen the roaches in the wall and all over the kitchen or this damage to this door. This company tries to hold you to a lease but yet they aren't taking care of this woman's property. They were notified of the damages and the response no further repairs will be done to the home. But they want you to move in with roaches....I would never recommend anyone to this company. read more

She is sweet when she is trying to rent you a property but does not return your calls and does not call when she says she will and you constantly have to chase her down. Then when you get denied she turns rude and treats you like garbage. This is not sour grapes. This is discovering that this is a company I would not want to rent from because they are inhuman. read more

Kelly Miller and Alan Keffer were both great. They helped us find homes we liked to view, they answered any and all questions thoroughly and quickly, and communicated with us well. Take pictures when you move out. They will try to keep your deposit. Charged me for clean up fees but used my AFTER move-out photos to list the house for rent! Which you could CLEARLY see we left clean and see how SPOTLESS the baseboards were, which was one of the things they listed as not clean. Took them to court but used the agents name, in court she lied to me and the judge that she didn't know the owners contact information. How is that when you are MANAGING their property? She knew and should have been charged with perjury. They got bad KARMA back for doing me like that because they weren't able to rent the place for about 9 months. I won't say the agents name but if she reads she will know and know who this is. You got your KARMA back almost 10 folds. read more

They do not care at all about your property and your tenants. They bill you fo work that is not completed. I paid for landscaping and yard clean up for 6 months. I happened to visit my property unannounced and the property was never touched. Keffer refused to reimburse me. This is fraud. They are crooks! stay away. read more

Rebecca and Deanna displayed very poor customer service to a struggling mother in need with no empathy or listening skills to the situation at hand. The whole agency has poor communication with tenants, I am unsure of how long Rebecca has been my property manager, I was informed of her take over to the property about a month after i was initially conversed with her in a problematic situation. I made a request for service due to their being mold in the home, the "handy man" sealed the mold and fixed the drywall where the repair needed to be done, the mud was still wet the next day (of course), so the "handy man" claimed he will be back in 2 days to finish sanding. The repair occurred in November, repair service management did not attempt to contact me until mid to late January. We had set a day for the repair, Thursday the 30th. The morning of Monday the 27th i received a text message stating their handyman would be at my home this afternoon, I informed Deanna i was at work and would not be home until 3. I work in the medical field, there was an emergency and I was running late. With 7 hours notice, (legally needing 24 hours prior notice to enter the tenants residence) it is not always plausible to meet immediate demands, but not to worry, they have a key to get in the home for situations like this. So I thought, their key is unable to open the residence. The painter showed up 3 days earlier than the set repair appointment, the key that was given to him by the agency did not work, and in turn for their inconvenience I was made to pay for the service that was not received. Rebecca stated had I talked differently to her than maybe I wouldn't have had the additional fee added to my rent, a purposely vindictive act due to a disagreement between tenant and property manager. I was told if i did not pay the service fee I would be charged late fees which will add up, eventually leading to my family being evicted. I Have had problems with this agency every time there is need for communication, from the very beginning. The first night in the residence after receiving the keys from the previous property manager, my belongings and myself were locked outside due to the fact the property manager gave me the wrong set of keys, he was unreachable in that situation, and I had to pick up the correct set from the office first thing the next morning and received no type of acknowledgment or apology for the situation that occurred the previous night. It is to my knowledge the agency still does not have the correct key for the residence which is extremely negligent on their behalf. I sincerely hope there is never an emergency situation that needs their immediate attention, because if i am out of town or unavailable, it is apparent they do not have the right key to access the home, which has been brought to multiple peoples attention in this agency. Ultimately, I have paid for the service fee and will continue out my lease, once my lease is up I will stay far away from Keffer reality homes, mostly due to the acts of their negligent property managers. read more

I flew out to check on my home in Hampton VA after the tenant filed suit against Keffer Realty. The tenant wanted out of the lease due to roach infestation and their failure to fix the kitchen floors which were damaged by water. They finally made an attempt to fix the floors after receiving notice of suit. Still, they replaced less than half of the kitchen floor and used a complete different color, additionally, the quality of work was equivalent to that of an 8 year old. Doran, the property manager, assured me that that there were no other problems in the house. When I got to the house the carpet was penetrated with stains, when I pulled the carpet up the floor was wet and moldy. The base of the kitchen cabinets were destroyed, and there was water damage and mold throughout. I had to make a claim with my insurance company because they refused to fix anything. In the end that ended up being a good thing because the company my insurance sent out said that Keffer had laid new flooring over floors which were still wet. Much of my house has been gutted. Worst of all, this was due to a simple leak in the water line that was hooked up to the fridge. It could have all been avoided had they simply went to the house and followed up on the tenants initial complaint. I would encourage anyone who has had similar experiences to file a complaint with DPOR. read more

Went to rent a property in hickory in july. It was empty for over a month before I could move in. The day I was able to pick up my keys and start moving things in I noticed the property had been left unattended since the old tenants moved out over a month prior. The house was filthy, light fixtures we're missing smoke alarms we're all ripped out of the ceilings, outlet covers missing, bathroom clogged with so much hair it would not drain...and roaches infested in the garage along with old luggage with mold on it, old car parts and oil left in the garage and much more...they are horrible property managers and should be ashamed of their company. Mr Keffer himself was rude and not helpful. Did I mention the AC was broke too and it was 80 upstairs when it was the 100 degree weather in July 2018?! So they wanted to keep my deposit...for what...who the heck knows bc apprently it is not used to maintain there properties. I did go to the courts about this and they didn't even show up to the hearing. Forgot to mention the bullets left in closet, peeling paint, and the moldy shower they failed to even show currently on the listing page...thought rental properties we're supposed to be move in ready and vents cleaned professionally etc.... Somebody didn't get that memo...it looked like a foreclosure inside and out... Holes in the doors, walls in horrible shape.. worst rental management ever. read more

Do NOT go to Keffer Realty for any of your realty needs. VERY unprofessional, the property manager responsible for our house was Doran Hornsby, there was absolutely no line of communication with him and everyone that works at that office is incompetent including Alan Keffer, the owner. When we were moving in (two days before) we were informed the washer and dryer in the home didn't come with the rental agreement (which we already signed and it was never stated that they didn't come with it but that's besides the point) and we would have to pay to keep them. At which point we decided to buy our own washer and dryer. Fast forward a year later to us closing on this same house, I get an email from Alan Keffer stating they were unaware of the sale of the house (complete lack of communication) and that the washer and dryer were not a part of the sales agreement and they belonged to Keffer Realty; at which point I informed him THEIR maintenance picked that washer and dryer up a year ago two days after we moved into the property and started renting. Don't even get me started on how when we were RENTERS of the property they made us responsible for removal of a tree that had been there I'm assuming for years which is the owners responsibility, but we ended up having to pay $250.00 for the tree removal plus having to pay their attorney fees of $1,200.00. DO NOT trust them with anything of yours they are incompetent, lazy, good for nothing people at that office. Trust me, you'll thank me for this review! Doran also NEVER did a move in inspection, check in inspections or anything that a property manager is supposed to do, ever.
