I have never experienced such a horrible attitude in my life. I called to make an appointment for my son just now. The Dr himself picked up (which I didn't realize until the end when he hung up on me). I said hi, I'd like to make an appointment please. He said what's your name, I said actually the appointment is for my son...he said Ok, what's your name. I told him, then I said also I'm just wondering if the Dr takes my insurance. He scoffed and said you are getting ahead of yourself! I will get your information and then I'll tell you what you need to know. I pleasantly explained that if he didn't accept my insurance, I wouldn't need to take his time giving my information. Well with that attitude, you are not welcome at this office! Find another one! And hung up. Egotistical and irrational Dr. I would not put up with his attitude when so many wonderful doctors in la don't have one. read more

Dr. Keith is meticulously efficient and is a total nerd (in the very best way you need a podiatrist to be). His office has framed Salvatore Ferragamo silk scarves on the wall and they're quite simply the best way to take your mind off any non-surgical procedures. Not only is he an accomplished physician with regard to the human foot but also he helped me recover from a severe running injury that might have permanently restricted my ability to continue running. In addition, Dr. Gurnick gave selflessly of his time to help me through my painful injury and he deliberately guides me back onto the road to recovery. I cooperated with Dr. Gurnick's treatment to the letter and also, I followed Dr. Gurnick's restrictions. Extremely rude and inconsiderate doctor. Had an appointment scheduled for myself. My daughter that same day came to me in severe pain complaining of an ingrown nail. She has been a previous patient of Dr. Gurnick. So I decided to take her with me to see if he can also see her. He said, he can ONLY see me and NOT my daughter. So I asked, I will reschedule my appointment for another time and can you please see my daughter instead, since she is in a lot of pain. He replied, "No we are not playing those games. I will only see you not her. You can not swap appointments. You are scheduled for today not her." I replied, I understand but her situation seems to me more critical than mine, so if you only have time for one patient today, please see her and I will reschedule my appointment for your next availability. He said, "absolutely not- either I see you or you can leave." So we left! Can not believe how he treated us-as if we were third class citizens! Also, no covid-19 precautions. His office staff did not take our temperature before allowing us to sit in the waiting room! Soooo disappointed! Rude, egotistical, inconsiderate doctor. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gurnick and his staff. Susan is awesome. The whole operation is organized and punctual. I adore this team. Doctor is super informative; answered all my questions. He's also super funny and quick-witted; I would gladly hang out with the guy just for the quick-banter and a few belly-laughs. Dr. Gurnick knows what he's doing. I was referred by a tennis pal with the same sort of injury, & was impressed by both his staff and the doctor. He didn't have the best reviews on Yelp, but, I was in pain & am glad I did. Turns out, I had a torn a ligament in my foot. I left with great instructions on how to tape it daily. He knows feet and is a nice guy. The office does have some very specific instructions they send that basically asks you to show up on time & park in the building & confirm they accept your insurance before you show up. So I have to confess...I screwed up and was a no show for an appointment due to a calendering error on my part and would have totally understood if I had to pay a fee for this. Instead, I received the following email from the Dr. Gurnick himself, "...When you schedule an appointment at a doctor's office it is customary and expected that you show up for the visit...(thanks for the explanation as to how it works, he continues)...I hope there was not any serious reason...but I suspect you are just an inconsiderate person who has no respect for others and their responsibilities and thus you didn't make the effort, etc..." Maybe it's me...just seems to be a bit strong. I sent an email explaining the error on my part, apologized, referred to the doctor who had referred me and asked to reschedule. His response...a single word...no... I wouldn't want a doctor that is that petty and seemingly quick to anger. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! After my initial appointment he reached a diagnosis and agreed to make me foot orthotics. After the nurse called the insurance and got authorization for the orthotics, she called me a few minutes later saying "your primary insurance doesn't wanna pay for the next visit." I said "okay, this happens a lot, the secondary insurance picks up what the primary doesn't pay" and then she said "The doctor doesn't wanna deal with that, YOU HAVE TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE!" What kind of doctor would refuse to treat a patients coz he's too damn lazy to deal with insurance?! (PS: I have 2 insurances from 2 of the top companies in the country) Later when I called and requested copies of my X-rays to go see someone else, the nurse said that I don't have to pay anything since they are gonna send me the X-rays via email. When I got the email, the X-rays were just blurry pictures of the physical X-rays taken by a phone camera!! How professional is that??!! I called back and they said if I want physical copies I have to pay. So basically I have to either pay the next physician to take new X-rays or pay him to get copies because he's too lazy to do his job! This guy is all about money. He doesn't have the courtesy to realize that he's dealing with human beings who are already in pain. He thinks he's running a business so if he has to do a few more steps to get his money, he'll kick you out of the door. I needed to see someone right away, as I was in pain. They squeezed me in for the next day. He ways funny, friendly and knowledgeable. He treated me right there, none of the "you have to come back for another appointment" stuff. He gets 5 stars across the board from me, I'm a fan! Why can't more doctors be this accessible? Parking was only $3.00 and it was valet. To bad he's just a podiatrist! Also I asked about other options, which he said were unnecessary. He could have suggested more expensive options and did not. Front Desk: Not great. Their paying system is not good. Not happy. Will not return ever. The Podiatrist: Warning: Went in to see about a pain I had on the side of my foot. He told me to go buy asprin and call him in a week, he gave me some ointment & pads to stick on the side of my foot. But since it was such a simple and easy appointment for him and he wanted to suck money out of me and my insurance he also told me he needed an X-ray, he took x-ray and told me the names of the bones. Like I care. Then he charged me $240.00 for an x-ray that was absolutely NOT NECESSARY. Went to another Podiatrist and he did not take any x-rays he gave me better advice and what to do and I am fine now, no x-ray charged. I would never ever go back or recommend this Podiatrist. I went to see Dr. Keith Gurnick on Monday January 14th, 2019 with my 17 year old daughter for her bunion to be removed. Apparently we went to see this same doctor 5 years ago, but she was too young to have surgery. Honestly I had no recollection of him since he was in no way memorable on any level. His voice could put you to sleep. He examined her feet and took an X-ray. Dr. Gurnick then proceeded to explain how he was going to break her foot and put a pin in it. My daughter became filled with anxiety after hearing about the specifics of the surgery. He also informed both of us that she might need to redo the surgery in years to come. As we discussed the recovery, my daughter was unsure she wanted to do this surgery her senior year of high school. We spoke about it after we left and I told her it was a good idea. The nurse told me she would call with the information regarding her insurance. I called Gurnick's office 2 days later to find out what the insurance would cover. The secretary lied to me and said she would get me the information tomorrow. Ten minutes later I received an email from Dr. Gurnick explaining to me that he would NOT be able to perform this surgery because "at his point in his career he does NOT want the STRESS." I have been to several doctors in my life and I have NEVER received a letter like this before. Dr. Gurnick's lack of professionalism was astounding. I wrote him back and told him how SHOCKED I was to receive his letter. I would never refer this doctor if he was the last podiatrist on the planet. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER GOING TO SEE HIM. I was very impressed with Dr. Gurnick and his assistant, Susan. Because I emailed my new patient information beforehand (as requested), I spent minimal time in the waiting room and saw the doctor right on time. Dr. Gurnick was very friendly and frank with me. My foot was sprained but not broken and he reassured me that no lasting damage was done. He even took my husband in to see the X-rays of my foot --which he appreciated. His advice was down to earth and practical. When I called Dr. Gurnick office (who was recommended by a friend), I spoke with Susan who told me EVERYTHING up front. She emailed me docs so I would not have to wait while they got input into computer. She told me valet my car and they would validate so it would only cost $5. Then I met with Dr. Gurnick who told me everything I needed to know about a broken toe...including why I had tingling in my left leg. He recommended a physical therapist for my problem and took my insurance. I don't know how anyone could ask for better, qualified and knowledgable service!!!! So happy I found him! read more

Dr. Gurnick is my hero! We have been seeing him for 20 years for various things. In my family we call Dr. Gurnick the miracle-worker. To make my story as brief as possible, I suffered from a tremendously painful flat foot since I was a child. At about 20 yrs old I finally had my first surgery from Dr. Sharon Dreeban out of San Diego/La Jolla. We all agreed that she botched the job. After that surgery I was in even more pain, in a foot cast with crutches for several more YEARS. It was horrible. I had seen doctors in Boston, Cambridge, Seattle and Phoenix at that point (wherever I had a family member is where I went to see a specialist) & they all told me the same thing "there's really nothing we can do, you will just have to manage the pain from here on out". Then I met Dr. Gurnick. He said he could absolutely fix my foot and was confident I would be one day pain-free. He performed the necessary surgery (fusing some bones together and inserting a screw) and then he sent me for weeks of intense physical therapy (pool, massage, ultrasound, etc). The therapy was amazing. I can't really remember what Phys Therapy group it was with, BUT nonetheless it was Dr. Gurnick who absolutely healed me. I have no pain to this day. He really changed my life and I am so grateful. read more

I generally don't expect that when visiting a doctor's office, so this was a real nice surprise and most importantly, I'm happy I went to see Dr. Gurnick for my feet because he knows what he's doing. And Dr Gurnick billed me excessively for things that should have been part of the visit fee. Triple Booking I arrived on time for my appointment with Gurnick and after a 30 minute wait, I asked the two women in the waiting room with me what time their appointments were and surprisingly, they both said the same time as mine. He triple booked! That's not acceptable. Worse, he was running late and he kept all three of us waiting. (Perhaps his assumed earlier triple bookings were also late.) When I asked his receptionist if there were three concurrent appointments confirmed, she emphatically said no. But when I noted the two women and myself were all scheduled for the same time, she turned red and sheepishly said no. I was truly shocked the receptionist lied to me - in front of other witnesses yet. After she lied, I told the receptionist to cancel my appointment, and I walked out. This was supposed to be my second appointment. My first was 10 days earlier, and when Gurnick walked into the examination room, he didn't introduce himself, didn't say hello and didn't look up from the file he was reading - presumably mine. He just started talking. Rather cold, aloof and ungracious if you ask me. I've read the other comments and don't care how supposedly knowledgeable the guy is. There's lots of other doctors who do the same thing and are surely as experienced - including in his own building. His business policies, the way he runs his office and his indifference are also unacceptable. I'd rather give my business to someone else - and will do so. read more

Some years ago I went to Dr. Gurnick for cortisone shots and a consultation about possible surgery for a neuroma. During the course of these visits he convinced me to purchase custom-made orthotics. He hand-made a mold of my foot and when the finished product arrived, I received a call to pick it up. Dr Gurnick never checked for correct fit or quality control. Around two years later I began experiencing back spasms. I was lucky enough to find a physical therapist who correctly diagnosed the problem as caused by one leg shorter than the other. The orthotics purchased from Dr. Gurnick should have, but did not address this crucial factor. Worse, my physical therapist noted that these orthotics were not the $300 custom-made ones I ordered, but a cheap, over the counter brand. When confronted, Dr. Gurnick responded with arrogance and he was defensive. God forbid there be an apology. I had to fight, to threaten him with Small Claims Court, just to get my money returned. This whole situation was extremely weird. I do not necessarily believe Dr. Gurnick pulled a product switcheroo on purpose. However someone did, and if the doctor had taken the time to check the product, to care for his patient, ... but he did not. Orthotics truly can be a lifesaver. But few doctors or manufacturers understand how to fit or construct them correctly. Even if I had received the custom-made pair, I would not have been helped because Dr. Gurnick does not know or understand how to fit an orthotic by assessing a patient's total body dynamic, not just the foot. And he is not alone. Sites like Yelp are important so that the we the public can better protect ourselves from the rampant medical incompetence that exists. Overwhelmingly, it is the patient that suffers and rarely the doctor, whereupon comes the arrogance, the greed, the complete lack of integrity. read more

Dr. Keith Gurnick and Susan are totally AMAZING!!!!! What a knowledgeable, professional, and caring office/Doctor. I had a bunionectomy on my right foot. From the first consultation I knew that Dr. Gurnick was going to be my doctor. He was very knowledgeable and he related the information in a way that I understood the step by step process of the surgery. He made himself available for any questions. I decided to take a significant amount of time off of work; so, that I could heal with out rushing back to work. Susan made sure that all the paperwork was ready and that Dr. Gurnick's portion was completed. It was so easy. All I had to do was fill out my portion. Dr. Gurnick signed all the paperwork the day of the surgery and even took the time mail it out for me. Susan called everyday (during the week) to check up on me and to see if I had any questions. It was so wonderful to have her check up on me. It made me feel that they were available at all times (and I truly believe they were available at all hours). Dr. Gurnick used The Beverly Hills Doctors Surgery Center and it was convenient, clean, and had very friendly staff. Dr. Gurnick used Dr. Gordon as my anesthesiologist and he was perfect. Dr. Gordon called me the night before to see if I had any questions. Before he called he made sure he had read all my health records given to him and he was aware of all my medical conditions. Right before the surgery Dr. Gordon explained his process step by step and asked if I had any questions. I never felt any stress about the surgery and I felt like I was never alone. I highly recommend Dr Keith Gurnick and his office for any of your foot problems. Btw, he also specializes in children's feet. I very happy and excited to see my brand new foot!!! Instead, I received a response from the Dr. himself on Sunday, and he called me early Monday to set up an appointment for that morning. I am surprised that Dr. Gurnick does not get 5 stars from all of his other patients! Some people are never happy or simply have one negative experience and they generalize it to the whole practice. I think that is unfortunate because Dr. Gurnick is one of the best and most well-respected podiatrists in the profession let alone within LA. He has a great bedside manner (a good sense of humor and he really treats everyone like a human being and not just another appointment). I have never been kept waiting more than ten minutes and usually am ushered right into an examination room upon arrival. Dr. Gurnick takes the time to be thorough and explains things and has great follow up. I couldn't be happier. In a town with a lot of options, Dr. Gurnick and his office are truly tops!
