The customer service I experience from registering and setting our visit up over the phone was excellent. Registered for Kama'aina and was given the Memorial Day Buy 2 explorer passes get 1 free! Even more so worth the trip. My only gripe is the surfing experience is EXPENSIVE. As much as I would love for my family and I to get on there. It's just such a rip off for our entire family to take part. They have a good variety of food and drinks offered - way better than the water park. Prices are also reasonable - as expected but not outrageous. The bathrooms are nice and clean. They offer locker rental for $10 with a $5 refund upon returning of the keys. They also have a more "luxury" locker room experience for $20. But you don't need it; they offer showers and changing tents outside, on the side of the coffee bar. Good idea to go before they open the course at 10am so you can check in and snag a good seating area for your group. Our items and wagon were safe even when we were all in he water. The only thing for us is the water...as locals we are not a fan of the fresh water experience. I haven't stopped thinking about how it's treated if so...And my son didn't care much about it while we were there, but once we left he said he didn't wanna go back or have his party there anymore because he thinks the water is dirty. There is fish in there, from small ones too you can see; to some bigger ones out when you do some exploring.

After some research, we found Kalani Surf School, and appreciated that they were based on the west side and offered private lessons. So glad we had our first official surf lessons with Kealii!! Upon meeting Kealii, he was so friendly and welcoming and really put us at ease. He showed us some of the basics in the sand, then got us out in the water. We felt so prepared and equipped with the right skills when we got out there! The thrill of riding those waves all the way into shore still puts a smile on my face! We're even trying to fit in some more lessons before we move! In general- Kealii is such an incredible instructor, and really gives you his undivided attention through these private lessons. I can't imagine trying to learn these surf skills with a large group! My best friend and I were corrected on our form when needed, and felt like the movements were almost second nature by the end of the lesson! Thank you Kealii and Kalani Surf School for making our surf dreams come true! Be back soon

The company is super professional with email communication with clear directions on when and where to meet. They were on time and had everything we needed. Everything we really top shelf with this experience. Highly recommended by me.

My son (4.5) had surfed before but Tristan got him on the board alone for a couple of waves, and was understanding when his stamina ran out an hour in. I'm an experienced surfer but only get out about once a year so Tristan was able to help me get that muscle memory back, and was patient when I took breaks to check on my kids (and husband! I have a license from another country, but it is not convertible to American driving license, so I had to basically go through the entire process again. I honestly thought it wouldn't be a big problem... until I faced the reality. There were so many technicalities on the driving test that I couldn't pass it. To the point that I started to doubt myself and developed driving anxiety. That's when I realized I needed to try something different. I needed help from a professional. And that's how I found Hoku Driving School. That was one of the best decisions I've made. Jesse is everything in one person. Super positive, encouraging, and also very informative. After just the first lesson, I felt a big shift in my confidence. I stopped doubting myself. And it wasn't just feel-good talk -- he gave me very practical, helpful info that actually made me a better driver. But what really made the difference were all the little tips and tricks on how to pass the test. On top of that, he's just a great person to spend time with in the car. We talked about different things, he kept my nerves down. He was cheering me on till the day I had a test. I really felt like someone was on my side, rooting for me. It was absolutely worth the investment, and now I'm recommending him to anyone who's going through this process. Don't struggle alone. Just hire a professional and save yourself the tears and the stress.

This man was illegally parked in my neighborhood, so giving him the benefit of the doubt, I asked…read morehim if he knew he was illegally parked. His response to me was to mind my own business...I told him that my neighborhood is my business and pointed at the sign he should've read. As most petty people do, he tried to change the subject and told me to pick up after my dog, who I was walking at the time...so I showed him the bags I always keep in the pockets of all my shorts & pants, and then asked him, "what happened to minding one's business?" All he had to do was say, "oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize." and I would've told him, "mahalo" and we'd both go on with our days. I have never left a Yelp review, but it just didn't sit right with me that this man, while in the course of his job (he had a student in his car) where he's supposed to be teaching a student how to navigate Hawaiʻi's roadways, yet ¹ parks illegally, ² doesn't read posted signs, ³ and feels that the rules don't apply to him. I had a driving instructor year ago, and she made me abide by every single law you could think of, everything was by the book, and in the few times that she was wrong about something, she wasn't too proud to admit it and would correct herself. In case anyone is wondering, we live a couple hundred feet from a school and an adjacent public park...so we have kids running around all the time, and illegally parking often limits what drivers can see on the road. You'd think that a driving instructor would understand that, but clearly Hoku doesn't...or maybe he does, he just doesn't care? I don't know, I just know that I wouldn't want my kid to be learning how to drive from someone who can't even abide by posted signage himself, and when made aware of his infraction, responds poorly and in a petty manner.
