Look no further. Ryan and his team are terrific. Job: Three large (80') pines- 2 healthy, 1 dead - to come down; 1 River Birch; Pruning of young magnolia tree (6 years old.) Estimate: Fast, easy and best around. Other: Great communication - Ryan is extremely knowledgeable and clearly enjoys his job and takes a lot of pride in the work/results. What ended up happening - during the job - he recommended two other pines come down. We were in the house discussing whether we should have had him take those also, when he texted us and asked what we would prefer. Of course we did - with all the equipment and everyone already here, totally made sense. One of the trees, though healthy, had extensive ant damage to it's inner trunk so it's great that he was willing to stay longer to take those down. Magnolia came out beautifully. Despite the fact that we live on a dead end, narrow street, when they were finished with the job (we're talking ALOT of tree trunks,) the cleanup was terrific - great teamwork to get that done. Furthermore, what stood out to both my husband and I was the team's safety culture. Excellent communication between members, quality gear and safety precautions, especially with so many crane lifts through complicated foliage. Don't expect these guys to turn up. Cancelled on us the day before because the truck had broken down. Fine, we rescheduled. 10 minutes before they're supposed to show up the second time they say 'we decided to reorder our jobs, we'll get to you in 3-4 hours'. Infuritaing, but hopefully they'll turn up later. 3 hours later 'oh we actually can't do today, can we come another day?'. What a joke. Take your business to a company who'll turn up. read more

So we had a huge tent set up in our yard for our sons graduation party the next day. Had high winds earlier in the week. All of a sudden a 3k pound branch falls crushing the tent nearly striking my wife. 100 People coming in 24 hrs and a yard full of tree. After some calls Kelly from Kelly tree was able to divert a crew to us within an hour or so. They were extremely professional in the hot sun, climbed the tree BC of no crane access, and took care of it within 2 hrs. This on a Friday afternoon when I'm sure they were looking forward to finishing the day. All new equipment and after clean up would hardly know they were there, besides the destroyed tent. BEWARE!!! Did they do a good job removing the trees from my roof and house? Yes. They prioritized my job because it was an emergency. They worked with me and did some extra work for me for a few extra bucks... which was nice. I thought we had a nice working relationship. But they ruined my driveway with their crane and refuse to fix it. They tell me it's in the contract that their crane may ruin the lawn or driveway while they work. Really? Only posting this because of a week of no response from the company on Facebook: Irresponsible Kelley truck driver: At roughly 7:30am (7/8), a Kelley truck, passing through Salem heading to Marblehead, had a red light at Loring Street at Salem College. Intending to make a right turn onto Lafayette, the Kelley driver did not stop for the light at all, merely did nothing more than slow down and pull right in front of my car. I had the green light on Lafayette. I had to slam on brakes as a result. A few minutes later, the same truck just blew through an obvious just-turned-red stoplight on Maple Street in Marblehead. No pumping of brakes in an attempt to at least slow down, just plowed through the red light. Based on this lack of regard for public safety and the lack of response, I will never consider hiring Kelley for any tree service. read more

Didn't use a shield when cutting down and sprayed gravel and rocks across my yard. Teared pool cover and was told they would contact me. No call. Thank god they didn't hit a window. Irresponsible company. Better companies in the cape Ann area that will work in the Beverly area. *correction/update I was not a client of yours, my neighbor was. I came out to the side of street once material started flying over my fence and causing damage. I described what was happening, received an apology, shared my phone number and was told I would be contacted. Months went by and nothing (having a contact # and obviously the address). I'm not so much concerned about replacement/reimbursement of the pool cover damage at this point, but it's more the principle of a company/employee conducting work in a hazardous way and ghosting. Obviously if damage was done to the siding or windows I'd be calling the office non-stop. read more

If your looking for a company that's quick to take a deposit from you... then is a no-show twice without calling you... doesn't finish the job they were hired to do... erroneously and negligently leaves huge logs on your lawn for a week causing damage to your lawn... then minimizes the damage and tells you how YOU can fix it... this is the company for you! As a bonus--throw in a rude, disrespectful, belligerent and argumentative owner who threatens to sue you and put a lien on your house if you don't immediately agree to his terms and "discount" that he feels adequate to compensate for the damage and unfinished work. This was our first time using any tree removal service, so we initially shopped around. These guys gave us the best quote so we went for it, and we're glad we did! Scheduling was done over the phone. We initially agreed on a date, but when I explained to them that we were hoping to get it done sooner if possible, they called us back a few weeks later and rebooked us for one day prior to the original date. It's not much, but I appreciated the effort. I was initially told that the crew was supposed to arrive "late morning", but they didn't show up until 3:30pm. I would've appreciated a call to give me an update, otherwise I was homebound wondering most of the day. I did reach out for an update and they gave me an estimate. It was more of an annoyance than anything else, however. When the four-men crew showed up, they were extremely courteous and professional. The head of the crew even made some suggestions and recommendations. They went above and beyond by clearing out some smaller branches around our house, which was great. After the branches and trees were removed, the crew cleared our driveway clean and tidy. They explained the work and I tipped them for the service. It was a great experience and we wouldn't hesitate to call them again in the future. read more

They did a good job trimming my two overgrown honey locusts, but they damaged my stone retaining wall and then argued ridiculously that someone else must have somehow done the damage that same day. No one ever even bothered to come out and look at the damage. This is not how a responsible, trustworthy company acts. read more

My husband and I decided to try and cut a 100ft tall tree 50ft from a house we just bought two months ago (yes this is during quarantine). So we were about 90% through the tree when it started to fall directly toward our house. While it teetered on a branch of another tree we immediately called Kelly tree service. This company did only a portion of the work and never came back to finish, despite many calls (about 5-6) to the office and estimate signed by both parties. They continued to say that they would be able to come "next week" for many weeks and finally I just gave up calling. Regarding the work they did do, they left a mess in part of my yard (grassy area damaged and bark left all over) and cracked the asphalt in the street. The two trees are gone but I would not hire them again or recommend them to anyone. Dishonest and not reliable. They may give a quote that is low to entice you to choose them, but it is not worth it if they aren't going to finish the work. read more

Seemed to know their stuff when a representative from Kelly assessed the work we needed done. Decent enough price. But on the morning they said they would be here Kelly was a no show. No phone call, no text, no email. When I reached them I was told that one of their crew called out sick that day and instead of starting my job at 7:30, it would "be a few hours." It wasn't that they couldn't be here when they promised that was so disturbing. It was the company's total lack of communication. My wife had taken the morning off work so both of us could speak with the crew to be certain of what needed to be done. We're still waiting for them to appear, four hours after the promised start time. Update: showed up at 11:10. Nice guys, got right to it. Would still have appreciated better communication. Update 2: The work that we agreed on was done thoroughly and carefully. The result looks great. I am grateful that Ryan reached out to me about my concerns. Kelley's crew did a great job. They were professional, competent, knowledgeable, and friendly, and they cleaned up after the work was completed. I would have given them 5 stars, but one thing disturbs me. Their estimate included a $0 item for "Parking Permit Fees TBD by your city requirements." The final bill listed this item as $250, which was over 25% of the total bill. When I called to ask why they didn't include that number on the estimate, since surely they had previously done work in my city and knew about the cost of the necessary parking permit fees, the customer service representative was very argumentative, but admitted that they knew in advance that the fees would be $250 at a minimum. It seems deceptive to leave this known minimum cost off the written estimate. I was dismayed by the combative response to my questioning of this approach, and to my suggestion that customers would be better served by including this information in the written estimate. I was further disappointed that the owner did not reach out to me following that unpleasant phone conversation. Addendum: I left a voice message for Ryan after his written Yelp response to my above post, and he quickly called me back. I was impressed that Ryan spent a fair bit of time with me on the phone on a Sunday to further explain and apologize for the situation, and he offered that they would be rethinking their approach to the parking permit fee issue on their written estimates in the immediate future, which I think is a positive outcome. read more

While I've used Kelley's tree service in the past...today I remember exactly why. Last night durning a windstorm a huge branch fell on our garage and driveway. Nick came by and cleared the driveway so we could get our cars out. He refused to take any money on the spot since the work couldn't be completed until later since he didn't have the needed equipment/crew with him. I found this company on Yelp and had an overall great experience with them from quote to completion of project. Kelley Tree Service was very communicative throughout and the two folks they sent out to work on the trees on my property were professional and took great care to make sure nothing in my yard or on the exterior of my house was damaged and they checked in regularly to make sure that everything was being done as agreed upon in the original site visit. The quality of the work was A+ and being able to handle the transactions easily via email through their digital invoicing system and to communicate with them via email (and not always by phone, since that's not always convenient for everyone) was A+ as well. I contacted Kelly Tree Service regarding 3 trees in my yard - 1 that definitely had to be removed and 2 others that we needed advice on. We scheduled an appointment quickly and the representative called when he was almost at the house and came in to see what the job entailed. He was very informative and stated that he would take the 1 tree down, then advised on pruning back the other 2 and removing some of the lower limbs. We liked what we were hearing, then asked how much he thought the job would cost. He gave us a guestimate price that we thought was decent and he stated he would send us the written proposal either later that day (Sunday) or the next day. We informed him we were not in a rush for the job to get done, but wanted to get on their schedule once we received the quote, we told him we were very flexible with the scheduling. After waiting three days for the estimate, we called the office and were told that the person who did the estimates might not have had the correct email information. We gave her our email address and she said she would pass it on to Peyton (?). Well, it's at least a month later and we have yet to receive the quote in writing for the job. If there was any kick back on the email, then they had our phone number to call as well as our home address to mail it out, but there has not been any communication from Kelly Tree Service since the home visit. If this was too small of a job, in the future, I think it's best practice to let customers know so they can find a company willing to take the work. It's too bad, the representative seemed very knowledgeable, but unfortunately didn't follow thru. read more

**Update** Following my review they tried calling me and left a voicemail. Looks like this boils down to a well-intentioned but rather 'clumsy' situation. Although I was home it turns out that they did swing by, rang my doorbell and got no answer. Had they shown up 5mins later (i.e. in the agreed time period) they would have seen the note that I put on my door at 10am asking them to walk up the driveway. So although they were there, they unfortunately did not walk into the driveway where they would have found us AND they also did not call me (had phone in my pocket). It turns out they were able to see the tree in question and will be sending me a quote today. **Original Review** No show, no call... and that's after I had called at 9am to confirm they were coming between 10am-12pm as agreed. Waited from 10am-12pm-1pm... They did not show, they did not call (really?!) and now I get an answering machine when I call them. read more

I own a small business on the north east side of Newton.... I don't know if its is because I am close to the river, or if it's just my deadbeat landlord not maintaining the property but I am completely overrun by Sumac's. These nasty Weeds (trees) have completely encompassed my property, growing long branches into my driveway and yard scratching my nice car, dropping bunches of seed pods, stems, and leaves driving my landscaping costs up. They are just a mess! I called Kelley tree service and asked them to come down and give me a quote on at least trimming them back.... I was SO impressed. They were there SAME DAY to assess my situation and give me an idea what it would cost.... let me just say, they aren't the only company I contacted, but they were the only ones who gave me a reasonable and honest quote. They are coming back on Monday to do the work.... if at that point they deserve less than 5 stars I will change my review, but for now I am beyond impressed with their prices and their professionalism. Horrible experience with Kelley tree. Needed about 21 pine trees cut down next to our house. We received a contract beforehand stating they were not responsible for any damage to our driveway which made us a little nervous but thought it was standard. When the day arrived about 10 guys started cutting down trees in a reckless manner, one tree even fell from the crane and almost hit one of the workers. The entire day they were smoking cigarettes and disposing them all over my yard (we live in a upscale neighborhood and were beyond embarrassed). Also, throughout the day the men were relieving themselves behind trees in my backyard. The worst part was they left a mess of my yard, and my newly paved driveway is now all scratched up. Would never recommend them to anyone. We used Mayer before but they were backed up, should have waited for them and paid a little more for a job done right. read more

My neighbors hired this company to trim a tree on the line between our two properties. Kelley Tree completely disregarded the property line, trimmed the tree over my driveway when they should have been staying in my neighbors' yard, and dropped a branch onto my car damaging it. The only good thing I can say is that the tree is gone. Unprofessional and unresponsive unless they are asking for their payment, then they are all over it. Got a past due notice one week after taking down the tree and they still hadn't come back to grind the stump! They were hired to take down a tree and clean up a small piece of land, no clean up was done and they left the pile of wood chips for good measure! We actually had the check ready for them but they cut the tree and left with no warning, same with the stump- they came, ground the stump leaving all the bark, and left without a word. Sent them a email about the lack of work done and got no response. If I had known that they would not clean up the land I would have gone with another company that could do the work and saved myself the money of hiring yet someone else to finish the job. read more

We contacted 6-7 tree services for a modest sized job in Belmont. 2 large maples, 6 smaller hemlocks and yews. Ryan responded to my quote request within a couple days. Had pricing for me when he told me. Was about 10% lower than the other 4 places that actually did come through with pricing, and based on his yelp reviews, we hired Kelley Tree. They were able to show up very soon after we awarded them the job. They arrived on time, were super efficient, worked carefully and quickly (a joy to watch!) conscientious about clean up, worked hard with a high degree of quality.
