This is a nice state park with camping, the Glacial Grooves, a beach, some boating facilities, a shower house, hiking, and public bathrooms. Plenty of parking for cars, boat trailers, and golf carts. We were there on a Friday afternoon, so it wasn't super crowded and everyone was kind of spread out across the beach. We saw a blue heron, and my friend fell asleep on her towel. We also went back to hike some of the North Loop trail. A good time was had by all, minus the incident with the poorly behaved off leash golden retriever. There's almost always one of those, though..... Note that the beach is not technically dog friendly, but there were a few there. read more

Great park with a lot of activities to enjoy the island. There's a nice sandy beach, a jetty near the boat launch, several hiking trails, and there's also a campground. We saw some great wildlife on our walk - turtles, water snakes, and raccoons. There are some rougher latrine style restrooms available near the beach. This is a great state park. They offer a campground, beach and hiking trails. We stayed for 4 nights at the campground. Spots were nice. Shower houses were typical of the parks with great water pressure. If you are camping there is a small private beach area you can access by the fish cleaning area. Great and areas with shade. The beach itself is nice. There is a latrine and changing area but no real bathrooms. They rent kayaks. There is also a boat launch. The hiking trail called the north short loop is about a mile long and starts near an abandoned rock crusher facility and takes you by beautiful views of the water. Easy walk and through the woods. Overall a great area and worth the visit. read more

The yurts are wonderful! They're roomy and reasonably though minimally equipped. There's a basket-style coffeemaker, full fridge, electric range with oven, and microwave. If you expect to cook, to be on the safe side I'd bring anything crucial -- we only had a single bowl of a size we could make a salad or mix a loaf of bread in, and the other yurt didn't have one at all, but did have a cookie sheet, which we did not. There's table seating inside that will seat six (although only four dining chairs) and three full beds. Ample outlets. Large decks with picnic table, grill, and views of the beach and lake. Wheelchair accessible, including the picnic table and the kitchen sink. Clothing storage includes only a wardrobe; bring your own hangers. Airflow isn't as good as we'd expected; even in September, with highs that didn't get above 74, a good breeze off the lake, and every window wide open 24/7, it was stuffy inside overnight. Bring fans if you have them. Both yurts had one box fan, and that was not enough to keep us comfortable at night. Grocery shopping on Kelleys is minimal, especially anything perishable (dairy was well-stocked, but meat and produce were very slim pickings). Bring everything you can fit in. You can buy ice at the camp entrance. read more

Kelleys Island has a nice beach. It's located along the northern shore. The State Park provides some of the best views. Bathrooms are available. Campers love this place and it books quickly. Beaches are usually pretty clean. It has a few public bathrooms that don't reek. There's a few, and many of them are terrible. Overall the beach is clean. There's a little bit of trash but that can't be helped. It's a good place for launching a boat. Right by here are glacial tracks so there's something cool for science nerds. There's a couple of easy trails. read more

We love to come here each summer to visit the glacial grooves, and play on the beach. Bathrooms are available but have a rather strong aroma. Other than that it's always a fun visit. read more

Pretty location and scenery but ultra disgusting, unkept stinking outhouse restrooms. NO rest for the wicked here! The sand beach is comfortable and a very gradual slope out to the warning buoys. read more

Kelleys Island State Park - Nice for families - Parks Near Me - Kelleys Island, Ohio

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend 2015 and had a great time! The staff was pleasant and helpful. We interacted a check-in, and went up there to buy wood/ice a few times. They helped us with maps and answering questions about places of interest on the island. The campsite had a lot of trees/shade, and was close to the restroom but not too close (#41). We brought out bikes and rode all over the island-- the campground is clean (especially the bathrooms) and very well-maintained. The beach is walking distance, and very nice. On the weekend boaters bring their boats and dock near the shore. You can hear their music, and it is a very festive vibe. Glacial grooves are right across the street (interesting to see) and there is very good snake & toad hunting on the island (if your kids are into that sort of thing). We'll definitely go back and stay here again! read more

Amazing beach that is not as large as when the breakwall used to extend out straight and far, but has is a crescent patch of paradise. Attached to a state park on one side, boat launch and walkable pier on the other side, you can ride a bike or golf cart down, anchor a boat, and take a swim from the smaller north pond? trail just east. Sand goes out far and is shallow, so great for families. If only it had more space. And I'm pretty sure it was ranked by GMA as #8 beach in USA in the mid 2000's (could have been USA Today or similar and could have been +/- 2000-2010). read more

We have stayed here on several occasions! Love the location! The bathrooms were clean but tended to be clean at inconvenient times. The people were incredible friendly! The beaches were clean and well-maintained! Trails and glacial grooves were nearby. We will return! read more

Stayed here for three nights and enjoyed it! It was nice to be right on the beach and being able to see the lake from our campsite. Bathrooms were clean. At check in the staff in the camp office was extremely rude to a couple in front of us and seemed to be very irritable with people checking in. I know they are fully booked and they probably deal with a lot but come on. Actually that was just one lady and the other staff was very nice. I liked the little camp store and the side trail down to the beach. There was a lot of poison ivy behind our site so be careful when walking through the woods! Altogether well maintained and it was a fun campsite. read more

I spent a night here in mid-September, which is definitely NOT the high season. However, we had a nice time and really enjoyed the location. The park was pretty quiet. They have a lot of great tent and RV spots. The ones nearer to the lake are a little closer together, but away from the lake, the spots had a lot of space. There is a separate with-pet area, so you can avoid that scene if you want. The bathrooms were in great condition, especially considering it was the end of the season. The park is right across the street from the glacial grooves, which is a cool bit of ice age history. I will probably be back someday in the future. read more
