After reading the not so nice review about the "old man in the back right corner" I was even more apprehensive when he came to get me outside in the line. What the heck it's just hair so in I went. What I learned was the old man is Nelson. He is 80 years old. He travels to Alaska to go fishing when he can and was a genuinely nice guy. He went to barber school in 1953 and has been cutting hair in that shop since 1971! My hair is a regular layered cut kind of a old style guys cut with a part on one side. Other barbers have left me with the left side flipping up or a cow lick on the back. Nelson did a great job and exactly what I asked for. No flip or cow lick. When I got home my wife said wow that's a great haircut. My hair did not feel dirty and I so far have not broken out in boils. So, if you are a young person wanting a trendy fade or letters cut into your hair you might give Nelson a pass. But, if your an older guy like me and just want a conservative well done haircut, Nelson is your guy. In any case, at 80 years old this old uncle probably doesn't need your business or your disrespect.

Howere, when my stay in Hawaii turned into a longer stay then expected, I needed a haircut. I kept driving past this place and noticed a line forming everyday. That has to be a good sign! The shop was 3 chairs and looks like an old school shop, just like I was hoping. Sadly, no straight razors or hot shaving cream. But the shop had a great vibe just the same. I just wish I had more hair to more fully enjoy the experience.

Came with my cousins to get our hair done for a formal event that evening. I had an appt for a wash…read moreand style so I came in & perused some photos on my phone so I could show Rick, my hairstylist/owner. My cousin was first so we sat for a bit until Rick arrived as we came in a few minutes early for our appointments. I wanted long, flowy curls that would stand up to a few hours and into the night since I knew my hair would relax with the humidity and just naturally since my hair is long and fine. By the time it was my turn, I discussed my idea with Rick, showing my photos and telling him my hair doesn't hold a curl after awhile so I have to spray it with a lot of hairspray. He washed my hair with very warm water, then blow-dried/blow-out first to dry my hair. If the water is too hot, just communicate that. The hair dryer reminded me of my Dyson the way the air flowed and sounded. Afterwards, Rick sprayed my hair with an extreme hold hairspray prior to curling with a curling iron then sprayed again w/hairspray. I'd say only one time I felt the hot curling iron really close to my scalp. Otherwise, things went smoothly. I was probably finished within an hour. My curls were definitely sturdy. I asked Rick if he would tease the back of my hair since I like volume but he didn't want to add another dimension & mess with the curls. The curls held below the chin for the rest of the night but fell around my face and around my head. I think it was the humidity and because I have fine hair. It was a pretty style and my cousin who has really thick hair had curls that lasted all day and into the evening. My other cousin had an updo with soft face-framing curls. That was very elegant and the design of her bun in the back was intricate. Rick did a nice job working with her shorter-length hair with lots of bobby pins and creative design. The shop has a modern & spacious feel. There's a eyebrow services place adjoining the shop.

If I could give this place more than five stars, I would!…read more I called every single salon on island with the same message explaining what I needed help with and this place was the only place that texted me back with compassion and real help that same day. I was at the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit on Oahu and had a hospital bun. I had a lot of seizures within a short period of time which matted and dreaded my hair. I could not detangle it myself and it was weighing on my self-confidence. After so much hair loss already, I wanted to save the length. This team responded to my request of detangling with such care, compassion, and patience. When I arrived I was assured that they were going to take care of me and my hair. This team was so kind to me and worked diligently on my hair for at least 3.5 hours. I was reminded that this is why they do what they do in this service industry. They accomplished this tedious task with gentleness, wonderful hospitality and fun. Towards the end of the detangling Jamie wanted to trim the ends of my hair to make my hair fuller with cleaner ends. I was floored by this team's generosity as they did NOT even charge me for this service that took up hours of their time and much effort. Jaime- you are the best! This team is extraordinary and I am forever grateful for their dedication to their work, their generosity and their kind hearts. This is a rare thing to find these days. I cannot say enough amazing things about this team of stylists! I am blessed beyond measure for what they did for me. And I will tell everyone I know about how awesome they are! Her "storefront" is at a gas station. We were getting gas, and I noticed her shop, went in to see if my husband could get a haircut right then, and was able to be accommodated. He has difficulty getting a good cut, so we were both very pleased, and will be back when we're in Kauai. I look forward to using her services, as well. She's a very sweet, very good stylist.

The outside looks like a regular building with a simple window-sign but upon entering you're hit with a burst of eclectic decor and a splash of bold colors. There are 2 chairs and a variety of colorful hair products nicely arranged on the shelves for sale. Herman specialized in cut and color but can pretty much do it all. His salon is truly a one-stop-shop for fashionable fix-ups and delightful do's that result in lovable, lustrous locks! I guarantee you won't be disappointed :)

I walked in and met Emily who has her separate business within the salon and made an appointment for about an hour later. To get to the point, she did an amazing job! My hair was a wreck after having gone to a hair institute where the student cut my hair pretty crooked, but Emily fixed it up so nicely! It was only 35 dollars for the wash, cut, and styling.
