A cute coffee shop nestled in a neighborhood, I was excited to check this spot out based on the reviews. The shop is a small space and there were quite a few people either working or meeting up with a friend. I glanced over their summer drink menu and went with the maple miso matcha latte with almond milk. I decided to work remotely in the shop myself. It's pretty modern and chic inside and very friendly service. The matcha was a bit too milk forward for my liking where the matcha almost disappeared. The miso maple flavor however was pretty good and had a slight salty/nutty sweetness that I wish would've brought the matcha flavor out more. The person next to me ordered a breakfast burrito that looked amazing. So maybe that's definitely worth trying out! read more

WOW!!! Over the past year I've come here often, but I have not yet tried the strawberry latte from their summer menu! I saw it online and had to come in. The vibes are always perfect as soon as you walk in the door, there are little trinkets and pastries that immediately catch the eye. As I ordered the latte, the barista was sure to ask what milk I would like and if I wanted cold foam, she was so attentive and sweet! The latte was so fresh and perfectly sweet!! This spot has been on my radar for a long time, back when it was Peaks. It recently went through a rebrand. I found myself with some work to do on a Saturday morning and decided to swing by. There's on street parking on the block it's on and surrounding blocks. There's also an abandoned store across the street with a small lot, which is where I wound up parking. The space is small but I didn't have any trouble finding a seat, though I imagine that might be a different case later in the day or during peak study time for the students. I got an ube iced coffee special with oat milk, and impulsively ordered the breakfast burrito too. I figured if they have shirts advertising the burrito, it must be good. The decor is very trendy and chic and well-curated, and you'll feel super hip hanging out here. The coffee was alright but my shot was a bit on the bitter side - assuming this was just a one-off. The breakfast burrito lived up to the hype. Fluffy eggs, perfectly crispy pressed tortilla, a flavorful aioli generously slathered all over the plate. Definitely one of the places to come (if not THE place) in Syracuse if you want a breakfast burrito. Unfortunately for me, the WiFi was down when I went, so I couldn't actually do my work and didn't stay long. Womp womp. Perhaps unavoidable, but definitely not ideal for a coffee shop. I wish I'd brought a book with me that day or had more time just to spend, because I'd say this spot is great for silent reading and unplugging more than working or socializing. Finding spots that are serene enough to get together with a couple of friends is never as easy as you think, however when we walked into Kelsey's we knew that we'd found a new spot worth returning to. As we sipped our lattes and talked, we enjoyed the comfortable seats, the narrow table that allowed us to lean into each other as we gossiped, and the tall windows facing the street that were perfect for people watching. My only regret is not getting a breakfast burrito because I had major envy as some of my friends bit into theirs! No worries, it gives me (another) good reason to return! read more

We drove past this coffee shop and couldn't resist its cute exterior. Going in, their interior is just as aesthetic with its minimal design. We were greeted upon entering and noted how busy it was once we looked around. No tables to sit, as a lot of people were sitting to work on their laptops and/over socializing so it didn't seem like anyone was leaving anytime soon so we got our items to go. They have a couple seats outside as well, but these were also taken. We ended up opting for two items from their spring menu, the COCONUTHEAD which I highly recommend from how smooth it was to drink and how prominent the flavors were. The description said they use Pandan leaves for its toasty vanilla-like sweetness alongside their coconut syrup and added to their iced matcha latte. The other drink we got was their LOVEBUG, which is a green tea sweetened with passionfruit honey and has raspberry puree, making it very refreshing for this summer heat. For their washroom, you have to request a key (which was hooked onto a plastic spatula, how cute!) since it leads to the washrooms in the condominium next door. This is hands down my favorite coffee shop in all of Syracuse. Their mission is to be their for the "peaks and valleys" of your life, and I can safely say they have been. Iced caramel oat milk lattes have gotten me through intense study sessions, fun chats with friends, and as a pick-me-up on hard days. Their food also does not disappoint: their avocado toast is piled high on crusty bread, and their breakfast burritos are the perfect ratio of egg to cheese to spicy mayo. The ambiance of the cafe is also so nurturing; plenty of natural light, nice staff, clean seating, and good music. What more could you ask for in a coffee shop? A bit pricey for sure, but worth it in my opinion for the sake of supporting a local business. It is both a blessing for my soul and a curse for my wallet that I live up the street! My routine lately has me driving all over Syracuse starting in the early, early morning. After passing this place maybe a thousand times over the years, it occurred to me that I could come in and purchase the caffeine and food I needed to live. It's kind of a weird space, like they were left with this extra area up front as a result of something else and had to figure out how to purpose it. The place has coffee signs all over it, but I still wasn't 100% sure this wasn't some kind of common area for the student apartments. Their coffee is better than average. Good enough for me to drink black, which means it actually has a good taste to it. I'm more of a coffee user than a critic, so that's about as detailed as I'll be able to get for that. I would like to specifically call out the Salted Caramel and Rosemary latte from their seasonal menu. I absolutely love the taste of rosemary, but never would have considered it in this context. After having it fit together so perfectly in this drink, I have full trust in wherever they might steer me flavor-wise. They have a few options for breakfast. I've tried the bacon breakfast burrito and the avocado toast. Both trips came to just over $10 with the food and drink. The burrito was pretty small for what it cost, and the bacon was pretty undercooked. This was my first experience with avocado toast, which seems weird because any breakfast I make at home has to include at least half an avocado on the side. This was a bit much though, so much more avocado than I was prepared to handle. I can't be subjective, because I have nothing else to compare it to. (I'm guessing avocado toast just isn't for me.) I love avocados, loved the Texas toast and seasoning, but bite after bite of lukewarm goop got to me pretty quick. I wouldn't go out of my way for the coffee or the breakfast. I would absolutely make it a point to come here from wherever and try the rosemary latte, and their other seasonal items will forever have my attention. read more

Our youth group from church went on a little trip to Canada. On our way there we stopped by this little coffee shop. It's located next to a university so it was buzzing with lots of students. Located on the side of the road with huge windows, it has a very endearing charm to it. When we entered we were wondering why it took so long for the baristas to acknowledge us. Apparently, their registers were all down and had to close. They were so kind as to let the people who were inside receive coffee on the house! They did have to close down after the last customers, but they did a wonderful job serving us Massachusetts folks. My maple latte was delicious and creamy! This weeks edition of Saturday coffee was brought to you by Peaks Coffee. After hearing about them from Soleil I wanted to give them a shot and I saw they were closing the café for some time after the holiday so this had to be the weekend. I ordered a cortado and picked up some beans for a Christmas gift. The espresso was strong and smooth without being overly bitter or acidic. The little bit of milk helped to add a nice mouthfeel and a little bit of sweetness. Served up with some seltzer it was a joy to savor the drink. Even better was speaking with the owner that was there serving us that day. You could tell he had a passion for the beans and their history and knowing they pay more than fair trade and work out a cost analysis with the growers to make sure everyone can make a profit makes me elated to give them my business. I'll be keeping an eye out on social media to see when they open back up and until then I will try and frequent the places that brew Peaks. read more

Naomi had learned of this coffee shop by another coffee shop we had stopped at that used their coffee and we had both enjoyed it. So we decided we would see where the beans came from. Down past the village of Cazenovia in the town of Nelson is a blink and you'll miss it little intersection that nestles this little roasting and coffee shop. Turns out they were closing for a month or so to do some minor renovations. So we skated in to try it without having to wait. A really rustic type setup in this place with natural woods and clean white walls. It's a really calm and peaceful setting with about 6-7 tables and such. You can tell this isn't one of those bring your laptop and hang out type places but just a nice peaceful place to maybe read the paper and have a cup of coffee if you live in the area. At least that's the vibe I got from it. Which is sort of nice to not have students and noise all over. I don't even think I heard a radio playing. But I can't remember. It was calm and nice. A super simple menu was offered here. Drip coffee pour overs and such and a few simple espresso drinks. Not much fancy. And also a true hot chocolate. Some small display cases for simple pastries and donuts (from glazed and confused in Syracuse) was also offered. Naomi went with a cortado and I saw they offered actual drinking chocolate and went with a hot chocolate cause that's just not common to see. One thing that was different from a lot of coffee shops I've been to is that her espresso drink was served with a shot of seltzer water to clean your palate to truly enjoy the flavor of the drink. So you know they focus purely on good coffee and beans here, And it shows. And while the drinking chocolate wasn't branded by them but by some place in Utah. It was super high quality and had no real major additions other than some warm liquid to melt the chocolate. It was pure and rich and really very good. The gentlemen working the day we were there was super friendly and turned out he was one of the owners. And I always love meeting the people that run these little places. Turns out he travels and goes to these farms and meets the people that grow the beans that he roasts in house. And always pays more than fair trade to them and makes sure the farms are well compensated. And that to me is a huge deal. Someone that cares about their product right down to the place it starts it's voyage to my mug. I'll gladly do business here again. He said after the Reno they are gonna split their focus and do the cafe only Fri-Sun and roast the rest of the week to make sure they put a quality product out. So make sure if you go. It's on a weekend. But I'd recommend it, I'm sure I'll be back again. read more

The drinks at Peaks are truly one of a kind. I was so surprised to see drinks that were familiar to my culture and the other fusions of cultures the drinks embodied. Their specialty drinks are so unique, and they have a good wide range of tea selections. I personally do not drink coffee, and it is always a struggle for me to find a coffee place that has a wide range of selections for teas. Peaks Coffee is constantly coming up with different ideas for beverages, and I am always so impressed with their creativity. The specialty drinks that Ngan creates are a fusion of cultures and encourage diversity. I can really feel a sense of community and care from the staff. They are incredibly friendly and accommodating; they also work hard to become an inclusive, safe space for people from all walks of life. The space is calm and small. They moved locations and are now located underneath an apartment complex in Syracuse. The space is open and bright but there aren't a ton of seating options. The interior decor is minimalistic and modern. They have a camp-vibe with the mountain motif and gas lamp lanterns on the tables. I tried a maple latte with skim milk with the adventurous espresso (wine notes, more acidic and bright). I also tried two cortados with both types of espresso (the regular espresso has that chocolate/classic espresso taste). Their ceramic mugs are cute and have no handles. They sell them for over $15 in the store. They also sell their own grounds for over $15. Outside of maple, I recall they had vanilla syrup flavor as well as one other one. Their menu is straight forward and basic. They sell some pastries as well. Their hours are limited so it's not exactly the best spot for studying but it's definitely a great gourmet coffee joint with that trendy coffee scene Syracuse lacks. read more

I found this coffee place after driving by it so many times. I was absolutely thrilled when I finally had a chance to try it. The inside of the coffee shop is great for relaxing with friends, but also a great study space. I've always gotten their lattes and I have never been disappointed. I even referred this place to my family when they were visiting. They got a variety of drinks and agreed that it was one of the best cups of coffee they've had.
