The menu didn't have a ton of specialty drinks, but there was a decent selection of teas -- including a blueberry one that caught my eye. There are a lot of better cafes and roasters in town to spend your money on. I bought a bag from them that their employee ground incorrectly and it clogged my machine. I took it in today to exchange it and buy a latte since I couldn't make my own. Thankfully they did let me but it was far from seamless. Came to Cafe Kubal at the beginning of the year to work and enjoy a mocha. It's a great location for both. The coffee is splendid, the staff is lovely, and there's plenty of tables at which to hunder down and get a little work done. In addition to a variety of coffee beverages, they also have beans and I was able to score a pretty cool mug for my at-home coffee enjoyment. Currently, during COVID-19, they have online ordering. You can get your beans shipped to you or you could order online for front door pickup as well. They're even selling their house made syrups so you can make yourself a lovely flavored latte at home and it will almost taste just like in house. Almost. I've been stopping in here on lunch break during the week since beginning a new job down the street. The employees have been very kind. I'm curious to know if this place is busier during the weekend. The first time I went, I got an iced coffee (Midnight Oil I think it was called?) which was pretty good. The second and third I've gotten tea, simply because it was later in the afternoon. The tumeric-ginger was strange. I don't really know why I picked it. A few days ago I watched a couple gazing into the baked-goods shelves on the counter. I began looking after they stepped away so of course I ended up with a chocolate chip cookie (A zealous "treat yourself" moment). It was probably one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. I love this awesome cafe! It was my first visit but what a great impression! The space was open feeling, bright from the scenic windows and a very welcoming environment. The Cafe was cozy and clean. The gentleman working at the Cafe was amazingly kind. I am not very savvy on how the drinks were made. He went through how many of the different drinks are made and I didn't even have to ask. It was as though he instinctively knew I needed help with that and he had a talent for reading his customers well! He ended up custom making a drink that was WONDERFUL! I only regret not getting his name, I was overwhelmed with how awesome the service was that I forgot to find out! Next time though! Because I will definitely go back! Just a fabulous experience! A nice coffee shop in a great location. I've been to this location twice and each time it's been quiet and nearly empty, which I don't mind and is great for conversation. I ordered an Iced Americano because you can't get those everywhere, and immediately knew I'd made a great decision. Surprisingly caffeinated and strong. Not too dark, and not too much ice. Menu is perhaps not as large as in other Kubal locations, but it's different and unique from them in other ways too, so it's all about taste and preference. My favorite part of this location is sitting and people watching Franklin outside, and looking at the astounding Niagara Mohawk building directly outside. Music is not loud or overpowering, a typical indie/90's mix. It's quiet and relaxed here- but a very enjoyable experience. Plus, it's right on the Creekwalk bike path! read more

Friends have raved about Café Kubal for a long time. There's several cafe Kubal locations and as I live 45-minutes outside of the city, this is the only one I've been to and today was my first visit. Yeah I know, I'm a bit of a latecomer jumping on the Kubal fan bandwagon). :) I'm not much of a coffee drinker (say it ain't so! -I prefer herbal teas due to a caffeine sensitivity), but I do enjoy a high-quality great one from time to time and Kubal didn't disappoint. Per the suggestion of the friendly cashier, I had a delicious dark roast; I love the fact they do their own roasting. I also tried their granola yogurt parfait; the granola tasted very fresh and the yogurt was rich and creamy, not tart. I also tried a maple walnut pastry filled with apricot preserves. It was very good. The egg bake I tried was my least favorite; it didn't have much flavor to me. Located in the new Creekwalk Commons, I loved the layout of the space. Sleek and clean designs, lots of room to get comfy on one of their unique coffee burlap sack couches or velvet armchair, sit at the bar, or in generous booths. Love the fact they have free wifi for those of us who work remotely and like to get out of the house to work in a public space from time to time. Learning more about the company, it is evident that they truly care about what they serve from the selection of beans and sustainable farming methods to the final beverage. They even offer nominally-priced, intimate, twice a day classes on "coffee cupping," where you learn about coffee tasting, the farming, bean selection and evaluation at their Roastery location. That desire to share their knowledge and expertise shows a true passion for what they do. A truly enjoyable experience. I look forward to my next visit. read more

This is their Creekwalk Commons location (1 of 7 locations). I am not sure if they have their own private parking lot. There was street parking (2 hours at a time). I had a small vanilla latte for under $5. I liked the natural tasting flavors of the vanilla syrup but I am unsure if I like the espresso. Overall, I like their coffee much more than Recess. Other flavor options for your coffee includes peppermint or caramel. This space is dark but has a lot of windows. It is connected to a convenient store. They sell breakfast foods like sandwiches and pastries. The workers were friendly and my drink was made really quickly. The atmosphere is more eclectic and less modern than their location on East Fayette St. I heard the East Fayette location closed (unfortunate, because this was my favorite 1!). They played cool music here that included Kygo and Paramore. They have free wifi and several seating options including booths, couch area and taller tables. I like the view of the Niagra Mohawk building from within this coffee shop. They cater (coffee, cookies, pastries, tea)! This location sells merchandise like camping cups. read more

I've heard a lot of people rave about Cafe Kubal, and finally made time to go thanks to a Yelp Event! My husband and best friend are much for coffee, so of course I had to bring my mom along too. Their light roast (Tanzania?) was very strong for both of us, and I felt terrible about how much creamer I had to put in it to bring the flavor down to a level that I could tolerate. I'm told the yogurt/granola combo was delicious, but the girls ate it up before I tried it! My husband and I tried the egg bake and we differed in opinion. He really enjoyed it, but I found it unappealing. The pastries however were out of this world. 2 of us tried the maple, and the other 2 tried the raspberry so we could all get a bite of both. Wow! Light, flaky, not too sweet, and a perfect companion to a good cup of joe in the morning. Parents: just an FYI if you stop with your young child - they don't have a changing table in either bathroom... There is just barely enough room on the bathroom counter that I could change my 1 year old. Luckily I always carry a changing pad with me, but make sure you have one! read more

Cafe Kubal is luckily a block and a half from my apartment. Honestly, the cinnamon apple scone is the best scone I've ever had. It is properly baked and pairs well with their coffee. Adds the perfect amount of sweet to the somewhat bitter (and properly brewed) coffee. I am a regular, and that's not changing any time soon. Cafe Kubal is one of my go to cafes in Syracuse. Nice place to meet someone, the breakfast items are delicious and a good deal (the breakfast burrito and the guac eggs benny thing are my fav). I shuttle between both Kubal and Recess since both places brew great coffee and I don't order much of anything aside from this. I'll take Recess's cold brew on hot days and Kubal's pour-over for when I want a treat. Otherwise, it's strictly black drip for me. (And I'm not a fan of Freedom unless I'm forced to choose between them and a more corporate shop.) What I like about these two brewers is that each shop (5 in total) offer a different vibe. For example, Kubal's University location is fairly small and diy, while their downtown one is noticeably more upscale. The Water St. location, across from the NiMo building, is probably the most airy and hip of the three and provides more than a dozen tables for folks to gather (though no reading chairs, which I hate). Most of the crowd here is dressed in business casual. When I was here on a recent Wednesday morning, every table was taken, and it was sort of painful to watch customers come in and scrutinize the space for a spot. Part of the problem is that most of the tables are for 4 or more people and many customers who come in (like me) are solo. My suggestion is to offer a wider range of seating options in order to accomodate the variety of folks who come here to get a really great cup of coffee. read more
