I visited Dr. Barnett's office at a different address (305 Gretna Blvd, Gretna, LA 70053) in the…read moresummer of 2012. I guess the Terry Parkway address listed on Yelp is old. I really wanted to like this place more, but it didn't work for me. PROS: -I'm completely satisfied with the dental work I received (teeth cleaning, etc.). -Janet, the dental hygienist that did most of the work, was very kind and friendly, and she also answered all my questions. I trusted her knowledge and experience. -Dr. Barnett was nice and personable. CONS: -This is the most unprofessional office I have EVER been to. I had multiple visits, and I experienced the same thing every time. The receptionist (Yvonne, I think) gossiped/complained loudly with Michelle (who I assume is a dental assistant). They talked about everything from FEMA fraud to Sylvester Stallone's son's sudden death. I even heard them talking negatively about a client. Sitting in the waiting room and listening to this made me feel uncomfortable, and once I came very close to walking out before my appointment even began. I get that people have conversations with their coworkers, but jeez. They had zero volume control and seemed to not even know what "professionalism" is. -This next part really made me uncomfortable. Multiple times, as Janet was working in my mouth, either Yvonne or Michelle stood in the (open) doorway and talked to her. Instead of ignoring the gossip and concentrating on the sharp object she was holding against my teeth and gums, she joined the conversation and LOOKED AWAY to talk, while still working on my teeth! Couldn't they just hold off the conversation till their lunch break? If I'm going to let someone put a sharp object into my mouth and move it around on my teeth and gums, they should concentrate on what they're doing and not look away when someone wants to share the latest gossip. It freaked me out a lot. -I am early to everything, and for one of my morning appointments, Janet showed up to the office seven minutes after my appointment was scheduled. Then I had to wait for her to put her stuff down and come get me. I get that sometimes people are late, but what really bothered me was that the lateness was neither acknowledged nor apologized for. Now that I've gotten my teeth taken care of, I am never coming back to this place. The only reason why I went back after the first visit is because I was on a time limit and I wanted to get everything done asap. If they figure out was it is to be professional and client-centered, then it would be a decent dentist's office. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back here.

It was not covered by insurance, but the out-of-pocket expense was reasonable. The staff there is friendly and helpful, Dr. Hobgood is caring and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend Algiers Dental.

After putting my child through braces, I knew what I wanted as an adult with braces. The things…read morethat I looked for were: PRICE, customer service, the ability to reschedule within a week if I could not make an appointment, and I did not want different ortho techs every time I went in for an adjustment. I also wanted to be seen every month instead of being seen every 3 months. Since I was no longer covered under insurance for ortho, I got 4 quotes. Complete Family Dental on Lapalco was the cheapest at $4685; but I would have had to pay the full amount up front. They did not have a monthly plan. Bippo's on Behrman was $5565. Trieu Smiles was around $7500. Algiers Dental was $5179 for clear brackets. So I decided to go with them. This office is operated by Dr. Hobgood and his wife. I was seen every month (for 15 months) and my amazing ortho tech on each visit was Mrs. Aletha. My only complaint is that other than Mrs. Aletha and the sweet hygienist, the turnover rate for other employees was high. Nevertheless, if you are looking for braces and do not want to pay an arm and a leg and you want to be seen every month, I would definitely check them out.

Restraint chairs should not be part of dentistry for anyone let alone children. I had to have teeth…read morepulled as a child. They tried laughing gas and valium. But because I was completely numbed I really just needed my dad to come with me and help me be brave. If that had not worked they would use sedation. Because you should not terrify children. Why all the metal instead of porcelain used here? These fillings do not last and are leading to young adults having root canals. Not because of bad oral hygiene, but because of Bippos horrible work.

Parents, please read this before you ever consider bringing your child here…read more Today my six-year-old was scheduled for sedation dental work. Like any little kid, he made a mistake, he snuck a small snack before the appointment. I did the responsible thing and called the office immediately to let them know. That's when I was told, over the phone, that because of this, my child will never be allowed another sedation appointment. Their alternative? To tie my terrified six-year-old down in "the blue chair" and force him through multiple cavity procedures without sedation. Meanwhile, he is already in significant dental pain and desperately needs care. This is the most heartless, inhumane thing I have ever heard from a medical professional. Children are not criminals. They do not deserve to be punished or traumatized for making an innocent mistake. And no parent should ever be backed into a corner like this. I left that phone call absolutely shaken, furious, and heartbroken. If this is how they treat children and families, I would never trust them with my child or yours. Please, parents: think twice before ever stepping foot in this place. Our kids deserve care, compassion, and dignity, not cruelty disguised as dentistry. If strapping down a child in pain is their idea of "care," imagine what else happens behind closed doors.
