I made the mistake of selecting "kickboxing & cardio" thinking that meant intense kickboxing. It turned to really be just cardio exercise from martial artists. It did not teach any fighting techniques. Good cardio exercise is by no means a bad thing, just not what I was looking for. What I can tell you is: This teacher here, Jeremiah, was extremely friendly. He immediately makes you feel very welcomed. He taught very informally - for example, he asked me to call him by his first name, and played pop music as we exercised (note: I arrived early and saw the end of kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class, which appeared equally as informal). I'm not trying to say informality is a good or bad thing - I think it all depends on the person. I'm just describing my experience here. We did jumping jacks, jump ropes, and push ups. We worked in pairs and punched each others hands as we held up protective gear. It was fun! But again, what I did focused on speed and exercising different parts of the body, instead of focusing on things like effective punching techniques. I was paired with different people at different times. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. By the end, we all worked up a good sweat. I know virtually nothing about how this place teaches fighting techniques. But if you want a good cardio workout, this really did seem like a an effective and friendly place. If I was looking for a regular cardio workout, I would have stayed here!

And wow did I learn more than I thought I would in a private lesson. Ajarn Phil Nurse is simply top notch in instruction. He'll challenge you, he might go a few rounds with you, and he'll coach you up like he did his legendary fighters. Thank you Ajarn Phil Nurse for your time and sharing your expertise with me. *Virtual Class Review…read more Today I had the pleasure of taking a free 45 minute beginner Muay Thai class taught over Instagram Live with Master Kru Phil Nurse. Nurse broke down several basic moves from Muay Thai in a way that anyone could follow. The Yelp description stated "Kru PHILosophies are unique because they strive to stimulate your body and your mind". I can genuinely say my mind felt clearer after the class and I got a full body workout! Just this one class had me looking into The Wat and their virtual classes. If you get a chance, I absolutely recommend trying out a class! Happy moving Yelpers!

I have been training at the SKFTC for about 10 months. Shifu Hengxin and Shimu Arlene have been…read morenothing less than spectacular teachers. The school is fairly small and individual attention is given to all students. Every class is lead and overseen by Shifu Hengxin, Shimu Arlene, or in most cases by both. What I noticed right away when I began training at the SKFTC is that Shifu Hengxin has no interest in convincing you, or selling you on his martial arts practice. There are no frills or exciting welcomes when walking into the school.. it's simply a matter of getting to work. To me this was refreshing, and says a lot about the sincerity Shifu has in his teaching, and the type of students he wants to acquire. The vibe is true, the vibe is authentic, those who are interested can stay, those who are not can leave. It sounds cold but I think in reality it is a warm and genuine way to teach. No student receives praise, you never hear "great job!", and your always asked to do more. They treat every student the same, which keeps everyone humble and connected.. not divided. Trying the free introductory class at the SKFTC was the best decision I have made in a long time. Being a student has revitalized me, and brought so much more balance into my life. The classes are very demanding and Shifu and Shimu work together to bring the best out of every student. This place has become a second home for me and will continue to be for a long time. p.s. But what I have gained from Yee's goes deeper than just physical fitness. It has improved my coordination, my self-discipline, my drive and my general well-being. Sifu Joseph Demundo encourages his students to push themselves, with patience and the understanding that each learns at his or her own pace. The emphasis is not on rank and advancement, but on learning an ancient art on progressively deeper levels. Don't' go expecting to get your "black belt" in a couple of years. Do expect to learn an ancient art in a friendly, family environment. And expect to sweat!
