She thoughtfully prepared props and wraps to compliment the photos of my son's newborn pix that I'd shown her (taken elsewhere before we discovered Little Love Stories), in addition to colors and props of my choosing. My daughter was meticulously handled and posed with the utmost care. When it came to the sibling and family shots, my 2 year old son wanted no part of it. Stephanie was extremely patient and carried on with other photos of our newborn, allowing us the time to calm him down. He especially loved seeing the chickens in the back yard!! Those initial weeks after a newborn end up being such a blur, especially with older children to chase after. Stephanie was such a calming presence to this zombie mom, and I have no doubt she shot some amazing photos to keep these memories alive and vivid for years to come!!

She took charge but had so much flexibility, making sure to ask questions to make sure we got all the combinations of people we wanted, and caught a few candid moments in between as well. The final product feels like a moving love poem to our crazy, beautiful life. The photos capture our reality in a way that posed photos never can or will. And to be clear -- these aren't "let's dress pretty and pretend to be candid" photos. She somehow was able to blend into the surroundings and just capture my kids being kids. She reassured me that we didn't have to look or act a certain way -- the beauty is in the imperfect tiny moments. Even when my kids starting fighting over a knocked down tower of magnatiles, she found a way to create art: you see a little brother crying, yearning to be just like his big brother; a big brother deeply saddened that he has to deal with his kid brother knocking down his masterpiece, but controlling his frustration and not hitting back; and a mom consoling both children in different but equal ways. I love the images now. But I think that some day, maybe 10 or 20 or even 30 years from now, it will be these images that I'll treasure more than any.
