Found this Army Navy store in the heart of a shopping area near my hotel. I had been looking for a few items for my kids to bring home and was thrilled to walk in to Kenmore's. While it had lots of Military items it also had several items/souvenirs...just what I was looking for...and for the right price. Harvard, Boston FIre and Boston PD t-shirts we're perfect options for me. They were selling good quality shirts for $15. They were the same shirts being sold on the street for $25. This is also a good place for hospital workers to come and purchase working gear since I saw a lot of medical scrubs on display on the sales floor also. I found a very nice Back Pack for a very fair price with a life long guarantee and of course I had to buy something else just cause it was cool. and who could resist a hat from their huge selection. I would recommend this store to anyone but especially solders who want to stop by - if they plan to be in, or want to learn the Boston, MA area. I would say it actually had a vibe of realness and readiness; but you can kind of lighten up once you are in there. They seemed to let you just concentrate on what you wanted - no stress. Last month we stopped in at this Army & Navy store to look for some boots. This was our first time shopping at this store so we weren't quite sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised with all of the merchandise as well as the fact that it was two floors. The items here were great and overall the prices were reasonable. I purchased a pair of black boots which were a bit more expensive than buying the same lair online, but it was convenient to get them right away. The biggest critique I have about this store is that the whole time we shopped here we felt uncomfortable due to staff surveillance. We were followed throughout the store and on a few occasions we felt cornered. I totally understand wanting to make sure that your products don't get taken, but give your customers a little breathing room! That being said, not a bad shop and we will definitely stop in again in the future. read more

Bleh I've been in surplus stores before; they either have a great variety of stuff, leave me with a crazy story, or at least find some awesome deals on camping gear. I have yet to find a good deal on.. well anything. They mix in Military grade equipment with trendy urban clothing and even a stripper outfit or two. Since its in the financial district, the clientel tend to be bland to creepy, but never crazy. So no good stories. Unless you're in the market for military/cop or other service approved clothing, REI or EMS has better deals on camping gear and clothing. read more

I often shop here for my husband, brothers, and occasionally myself, although the ho-ish female attire is off-putting. While the selection is good, the customer service here is downright awful. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN, BE PREPARED TO BE TREATED AS IF YOU DON'T BELONG THERE AND AREN'T WORTH THEIR TIME. Most recently, I tried to buy shoelaces for my husband, and was told I "took too long" to pay $2.50 because I opened the change side of my purse to get out two quarters. I should have left without buying the shoelaces. The last time I shopped here, I was buying a pair of scrubs, and the guy at the counter told me "I should be buying them in pink." I wanted to back up a review from 6 months ago - I chatted with the storepeople and this is indeed the only store in Boston that sells pepper spray / mace. Now (since November 2014), you can get it without a license over the age of 18. You still cannot ship it from online. The selection here is good and the prices are reasonable - I got one for about $12 that has a mixture of pepper spray, mace, and tear gas, and also marks the target for the police. As for the rest of the shop, it is mostly a randomish hodge podge of a lot of clothes. Not much other interesting military memorabilia. read more

GET YOUR BOOTS HERE. Kenmore Army Navy's boot guy knows boots. I walked in and told him what I wanted, and he found me multiple options, including a couple in my price range (which was the, erm, kicker). Explained which would need waterproofing, which had the best traction, which would be warmest, etc. And when I ordered a size bigger so I could put in cushy insoles, he told me to try them at home with the insoles, and if they were too big, just bring them back and exchange them for the right size. This store is difficult to walk through, but it's a gold mine for random stuff. Winter gloves, hats, scally caps. I just bought a messenger type bag here and it was exactly what I wanted. I was over at another store and the women's bags were just ... too ... I don't know. Not me. I have been carrying a camouflage canvas satchel virtually everywhere for six years. So I wanted a step up from there, but nothing busy, or leather, or weird colors. I finally had to give up and hit the men's section. There was an olive canvas laptop bag which was almost exactly what I was looking for, but I am small, and it was huge. I debiggened the strap all the way and it was still hanging too far down. Alas. But then I went to Kenmore, and I found exactly what I was looking for in a bag! Olive, canvas, rugged but sensible, and the right size, what's more. For less than half the sale price of that name brand bag. So yeah. Yay. Always worth a browse if you're looking for something random. They have a lot of randomnity in there. This store is amazing. They have a lot if stuff in a small space but it's a great place to find treasures. It's even better for military or public safety buffs. I have looked for military or combat style shoes for a long time and here it can be found. Staff leave you alone but are friendly and nice when you need something. I've been meaning to write this review for a while. 2 months ago, I purchased a black laptop bag for $29. I loved this bag. It was super light and waterproof. In less than 2 weeks, the handle broke. I went back to the store with the broken bag and my receipt. Did I get any help, hell nah! These fools had the audacity to tell me to contact the manufacturer and that they couldn't give me an exchange or refund. Trifling customer service and most of everything in here is overpriced. If I could place a zero-stars (or better yet: negative stars), I would without hesitation. I called Kenmore A&N last week when I realized I was a block away from their downtown store of excelence. I needed a specific pair of boots that are generally special order due to extra-wide width (EE width). Having heard that Kenmore A&N stocks nearly all sizes of boots and realizing I was in their 'hood, I hit them up. Not wanting to have to park my car (read: get a parking ticket) only to find that the store didn't have what I wanted, I called them. The employee I spoke with was originally friendly (why wouldn't he be? I mean, obviously I'm a customer, correct?) He went downstairs (by his description) to check on the boots. Sure enough, he located the exact boots I need. This is where Kenmore A&N lost it. I asked for a price quote, and was told "$189". Having previously owned several identical pairs of these boots and shopped online as recently as that morning for the boots, I know that the usual going price is $149 to $169, both online and in stores. I think for a moment and realize that paying for the convenience and instant gratification of walking out of a store with my new footwear rather than wait for an online order or store special order to arrive might be worth a few bucks. At the end of the day, it's still tax-deductible. I state to the gentleman "Really... That's $30 more than everyone else". His excellence's response: "Then go get them from someone else, pal" Well, sir, I did. I did, and saved $48 after shipping. I was completely floored by his response. Now, I realize retail isn't an easy business. Prices are rising, rent is rising, people are spending less. I wasn't asking for a price adjustment... I wasn't asking for ANYTHING. I was still considering picking them up just to get them in my hands quicker. That thought went directly out the window long before the "pal" part of is arrogant response was uttered. Hell yes, I completely forgot that this place was still here. I can't tell you how many times I've been looking for haz-mat suits, tactical assault vests, knock off Croc's, itty-bitty camoflauge bikinis, camping cots, knives designed to gut diesel engines, ridiculous hipster-shiek hats, used flight jackets and combat boots and other assorted what-have-yous. Going to an army & navy store is a throw back to being a little kid for me. It's a guilty pleasure. More fun than playing 'guess the shave job" at the strip club. I mean, to spend 25 minutes watching Italian sailors picking out novelty underwear for their girlfriends (or each other, who cares) and then trying on helmets and gas masks is golden. Kenmore Army & Navy is reportedly the only store in Boston where you can purchase pepper spray (you can now buy it without a firearms license). So, off I went. The pepper spray is kept behind the counter, and the staff were nice enough. They have varying sizes, strengths, colors and designs (in terms of the use of product). Prices range from $10-$20. You need to show a photo ID and they copy your name, DOB and license number, and you're on your way. read more

Back when this store was actually in Kenmore Sq, it was really good. However, it has gone downhill. As someone else said, "This is yet another "military surplus" store which has slowly but surely stopped selling all *actual* military surplus equipment, in order to make room for the pink urban camo, half-ass courier bags (it counts as military surplus if it's made of canvas, right?), Che Guevara T-shirts, Carhartt workwear, and cheap Chinese knock-offs of military fashion." I do not think you can actually find one, single "surplus" item in this store. Moreover, they do not carry ANY foreign military gear, which is a staple at most normal army navy stores. If you are looking for "army fashion," this is a good place to shop. It is a large store, with a lot of new stock. That said, the Army Barracks on Mass Ave. (Now closed. Have to hit one of their other locations) has much of the same stuff, FOR CHEAPER, and also some real surplus stuff (in the back, however). IMHO, the only real army navy surplus store left in the area is the one out in Stoughton, MA. 2017 EDIT: I have now been to the the other Army Barracks locations (Saugus MA, Salem MA, Salem NH). They are all great, have REAL surplus stuff, and the new stuff they have is cheaper than Kenmore Army / Navy. It just blows that Knemore is the only army navy shop in the metro Boston area. read more

I mostly go here to buy Dickies clothing and military flasks. One thing that really bothers me about this place is that the employees are always following me around and watching me. Also, the cashier can sometimes be an anal nut-job and compare the signature on my credit card to the signature on the receipt and if it is slightly different he will then ask to see the signature on my driver's license. I get what I need here but don't expect to be blown away with customer service. read more

They don't stock much else so if you're looking for something other than clothes go the army barracks on rt. 1 or REI. This place is really a gem for the unexpected. Namely, for silly hats. Need a pith helmet? They've got four types. Drill sergeant hat? They've got you covered. Gas mask? Of course. Everything from your standard Red Sox cap to a knitted watch cap to some kind of security guard hat, it's there. They also carry a great selection of workman's clothes downstairs, and the odd camping supplies (more from a military side than an EMS/REI side). If you're a creepy guy with a knife collection, there's plenty for you in the cabinet up front. A mix of hippie and redneck t-shirts are on the side wall, and the selection of affordable army-style backpacks and messenger bags on the back wall is impressive to say the least. And if you wear scrubs they sell them in just about every color I've ever seen them in. In terms of bargains, you won't find any hidden diamonds here on the shelves; most everything is new, not used (if you want used bargains, go to the Army Barracks), but the prices are reasonable for quality merchandise. And sometimes when you need some bizarre accoutrement for a halloween costume, theme party, or just a conversation piece... it's a godsend. read more

authentic u.s. department of war pea coats in black and navy - check; army/navy/marines/police/security/yada yada yada t-shirts - check; "death from above"/"mess with the best, die like the rest" flags - check; really dangerous looking selection of knives - check; gas masks and assorted psycho/lone wolf/militia paraphernalia - check. yep. looks like you got'cher self an army/navy store, bub. and it's conveniently located in dtx. check it out. don't think my somewhat sarcastic bit above means i'm putting this place down. this is actually my kind of store. i'm always on the lookout for a replacement for my wwII-era pea coat (ensign kurkendall, if you're still with us, thank you for selling your coat back in the late 60's so my dad could buy it and i could steal it), but i like army-navy stores for their selection of duffel bags, camping gear, durable clothing, and other useful items. if you need good, warm outdoor gear that will keep you dry and happy under adverse conditions, you really should stop in because, let's face it, those military dudes and dudettes know their shizz. this store also offers items for the noncombatant at great prices. case in point: i was recently in the market for a new winter ivy cap (i've always called them cabbie caps, but, according to google, i'm a moron). price at lids in dtx - $40; price for essentially the identical cap at kenmore army-navy - $18. i was so happy with the price, i bought myself a nice warm fleece skully for another $12. can't. go. wrong. they are in the middle of a large city, so the kenmore army-navy store also sells your somewhat played pink red sox gear and skimpy stuff for the ladies. i can't be too mad at that, though. read more

This place is enormous! I've often walked by the strange, sci-fi-looking silver suit on the dummy outside and wondered just what was up inside. I went there today with a friend who bought some goggles to use in the desert. He had three good styles to chose from, and they fit over his glasses easily. Looking for a knife or 300? How about a hat that has CIA embroidered on it, or some handcuffs? I even spied a few whips hanging in the corner! My guess is that this is a one-stop shop for bondage enthusiasts, campers, and military fans and professionals alike. A unique place to take the in-laws for a freak out. read more

An excellent selection of bdu pants. They don't carry 5.11 brand, which was tough because the brand supports an organization I'm very close with :-) But the owner explained why and made a lot of sense on a lot of levels. They have great alternatives though - like Rothco and Propper. Two floors and it is packed with cool stuff. Good prices, helpful staff, and easy to find off the MBTA. I've been to many similar stores but this one really stands out. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the market for clothing or other tactical gear. Five stars. read more

wow, this place is awesome. i came here on my lunch break to pick up a few things for my bf since he doesnt work near and wouldnt be able to come in before the weekend. anyway, i went in with a list of military issue pncho and militray issue foot powder. and guess what! they had them!! the guys there were helpful and gave me actually what i was looking for. altho the prices my bf gave me versus there was a bit steep! as my total came to abut $30 for poncho and foot powder. yikes~ also once you buy anything that resermble militray, it cant be refunded as orignal transaction. you would only get credit!! this is due to ppl buying it for halloween and returning it. gosh darn ppl! but anyway, this store was way better than the one on Mass. Ken! I'M SURPRISED AT YOU! SHAME, SHAME SHAME. I've shopped here for the whole kitchen drawer except the sink ever since Summer St. and Mass Ave closed up shop and have been a happy camper ... literally. I sent a friend there, though, an astute and noble man and newer citizen from a a foreign country with a captivating accent. Kenmore ripped him off royally by somehow talking him into buying their last single piece of Military MSS. The whole sleep system including two sleeping bags, the Bivouac Cover, and the compression stuff sack normally sells for $90-$125. Somehow they talked him into taking just the lightweight patrol bag (the 3-season part or 1/4 of the kit) for the whole darned price of 95 balloons (in DECEMBER, no less! FREEZE FOREIGNER!) They saw Joe Neophyte coming and ripped him off. I told him before what to expect, a good serviceable sleep system albeit a bit heavy, but somewhere around a C-Note for the whole shabang. No refunds or exchanges, he was told. Yeah, we can get around Kenmore's solitary Hack License in Boston. There's other places we can take our business. All the best Army-Navy stores of Summer Street for the past 50 yrs and hardwares in the U.S. went down the tubes, and the worst is all that's left, Boston. Summer and Bromfield Streets both went to Windsor Button Shop Heaven. $croodge and Kenmore won't! read more
