Dr. Bryan Johnson (not of AC/DC fame) is a fantastic chiropractor. Having had a 20-year history of…read morechiropractic care, I consider Dr. Johnson among the very best chiropractors I've seen. I've moved around a lot, and while every chiropractor has been at least good at giving adjustments, chiropractic care is more than just the adjustment. What impressed me the most about Dr. Johnson was not just his dedication to chiropractic but his commitment to complete wellness of the individual.
In my experience, there are 2 kinds of chiropractor; Those whose focus is more on the wellness of the client, and those whose focus is more on the business of chiropractic. You can tell which is which by the way they approach you as a person, their interest in your history of chiropractic, and the flexibility of their billing practices. I am happy to say that Dr. Johnson falls into the first category. When I first came to his office, I was dissatisfied with a previous chiropractor. Dr. Johnson immediately differentiated himself from that chiropractor by taking an interest in my history of being a recipient of chiropractic care. He went over my x-rays with me, rather than just taking them and never having a conversation about them, and for that x-ray charged me a nominal additional fee over the normal visit cost which he donated to charity. Clearly, the money, while essential to operating his business, is secondary to the patient care. I also appreciate that there are no mystery or unexplainable charges; I pay for the full visit with no insurance involvement whatsoever, a flat fee which actually ends up costing me a tiny bit more out of pocket than my previous chiropractor with insurance (not appreciably so), but it is totally worth it to me. The previous chiro scheduled care around the insurance, which in my experience is never a good idea. He also quoted me one price and then added charges that should have been included in the services provided by the "standard" charge he quoted. Even though my insurance was covering some of it, I felt like he was not on the up and up. Dr. Johnson, however, quoted me a flat fee, and every service he has provided has been included under that fee. There are no surprises. Furthermore, by paying Dr. Johnson the "off-insurance" charge, I get to dictate care based on my individual needs, not by what the insurance is willing to pay (and I am also quite certain that if you did have insurance with him and that insurance was not willing to pay for the frequency of visits suggested based on your needs, he would work something out with you!) You see, some chiropractors will not provide an "out of insurance" price, and/or they are not flexible based on patient financial situation/insurance status, so if you want to pay them an out of insurance price they will charge you 80 or 90 dollars for a visit, which I personally don't think is appropriate. Dr. Johnson doesn't do that, because his billing practices consider what you are looking to get out of chiropractic care. As a client in the maintenance phase of chiropractic, rather than someone who just "threw his back out" or suffered a recent injury looking to regain motion in his spine, I like to get adjusted every 3 weeks. With Dr. Johnson's flexibility, I can do that. I never have to hear "well, because of insurance you have to wait a month to come back." No, that's not the right thing. The right thing is to say "I want to make sure that chiropractic addresses you as a human with unique requirements based on your current skeletal health, not as a number on an insurance company's claim payment policies." Dr. Johnson's patient care approach is a reflection of the former. I recommend this skilled practitioner wholeheartedly; you will be under the best care of the most dedicated chiropractor in the area as a patient of Dr. Johnson's, I guarantee it.
