So I am sad to see this iconic Poughkeepsie spot only rated 3 stars! I eat here a couple times a month, and the food has always been spot on. I get it is in a not so savory neighborhood and you get harassed by the zombies outside, but the chicken is the best in Poughkeepsie. The staff is always polite and professional despite dealing with a rough clientele who are often rude and even threatening to them. I cant speak to a lot of the food, as I haven't eaten most of the stuff on the menu. I can however speak to the chicken, fries, corn nuggets, and the beef patties. Any of these items I would highly recommend, and I would be surprised to hear negative reviews on them. read more

Received the order from KFC. ( The chicken was supposed to be on a skewer, not sure where it was except it was burned on the outside, the inside was dry and tasteless. The packaging was awful, fries were in a greasy bag, Dinner was dry, Chicken wasn't chicken, not sure what it was. The fries were in a separate box, filed with French Fries and contained sweet Potatoe fries which were dry, taste was awful. The chicken is fried just right and drained nicely leaving you with a piece with very little grease. Good memorable chicken at a great price. A Bite More: Order a snack box for one or a jumbo box for two. Also you must try the "Munchers" a bite sized fried potato or corn and cheese snack. Very good! (be careful if right out of the fryer, they retain the heat well) Best for takeout if your from out of town. Because of the location I don't recommend you visit this establishment after dark. It's actually the best fried chicken I've ever had. Definitely a hidden gem in the Poughkeepsie region.

The restaurant itself is pretty basic. It's got a few tables, and much of the wall is decorated with pictures of foods and prices in ways that reminded me of many Chinese restaurants. But the food is good! The chicken is sort of midway spicy - not as much as the spicy versions of the larger fried chicken chains, but enough to make the taste interesting. And neither the chicken nor the fries were greasy. The small roll that came with my meal looked like an afterthought, a little dry and probably broken off from a group of rolls. Then again, I didn't come here for the rolls; I came her for the chicken, and I enjoyed it enough to want to come back. read more

Came here last night to get dinner for my family. We waited over 20 minutes in the drive thru line. When my husband told them our order, they didn't confirm that they got it so we e had to wait until someone acknowledged our presence. Eventually they did, and you can barely understand the muffled voice over the speaker. When we finally got our food and came home, the mashed potatoes tasted flavorless, like spackle. Macaroni and cheese was terrible-my daughter didn't even finish it. The only saving grace was the chicken, which was quite good. Being the only place open after 11 PM we went to take out some fried chicken. The place is small but I'll be honest, there were some people inside and outside that made me nervous so I decided to drive through instead of going inside. I got some fried chicken and French fries and they were fine. It's hard to complain about fried chicken and fries. I don't think they are as good as KFC or Popeyes but they are better than the grocery store fried chicken. Price wise, I don't think price is a deciding factor for me... This place has cleaned up! Definitely not as sketchy as it used to be (in the daylight anyway). They have a drive through now. New place is right next to the old one. Food is great as always. Lol. I have so many memories from Kennedy's. I remember Kennedy's back in the late 90's and early 2000's. There is no comparison lol. Its really nice now, and it has a drive thru. But no matter the place in NY you should expect the same from all Kennedy's. Chicken is A1 most of the time. Just depends if it is fresh or not. Hot Wing Zings never fail.. Kabobs are okay too. Its not in the greatest neighborhood but the service is decent for what it is and the prices are more than reasonable. So normally when you get fried chicken to-go, the heat turns the crispy crust into a soggy mess by the time you're home. Don't know what beautiful, delicious batter they use but my lord Jesus, why did I just learn about this place?!?! I have not tasted fried chicken so flavorful, moist, crispy and had just enough salt to grab another piece. The oil I can see is changed regularly cause I don't taste it, they give you an option not only get breast and leg. Kennedy's has some of the best Fried Chicken you'll find in the Hudson area. Amazing fried chicken, great wings, awesome mozzarella sticks... Pretty much everything else is good too. best of all, dirt cheap! Sure, it is by no means in a friendly part of Po-Town, and yes, you do have to reach around a double bullet-proof glass wall to pay... But it is totally worth reaching outside of your comfort zone.
