I have visited this restaurant a couple of times before and, although it has been a few years, I had expected it would be just as good as I remember. The ambience was very lively for a weekday night, which was nice to see. The bar was packed and all of the tables in the back were full. The food was not that great. My partner got the chopped chicken salad and thought it was very mediocre, especially for the price tag. I had a rack of ribs. I found the barbecue sauce to be weirdly thin in texture and lacking taste. The ribs were extremely fatty. We did not enjoy our meal very much. The service was good, despite how busy the restaurant was. A couple of things were lacking: our table was very wobbly, and our server never came back to fix it after she said she would. Also, we never got any water, even though we asked for it. Honestly, with so many good restaurants in Hudson Valley, I probably would not go back to this one. read more

Unfortunately this place is very very busy and in my opinion went downhill!I ordered filet mignon and was given tri tip- the server didn't even recognize the meat. My husband ordered little necks and he was given coquina or what looked like them- all agreed it was not what he orderedI Had to ask for the corn bread and waitresses were annoyed! Coming to Fireside has always been a treat for us since we heard about it from one of our friends many years back. We've made this stop on a year-to-year basis and the menu has quite a variety from burgers to ribs to name a few. The Tri-Tip Roast and Ribs are their most famous. An updated review is well needed since our last couple of visits as we've noticed quite a bit of change which includes renovation (not an issue, but do miss the original), the portions, and the food quality isn't the same as it use to be. For instance, the fries I got with my burger weren't enough compared to the past, and also the flavoring on the ribs was a bit dried out. I'm not sure if it has to do with the changes of chefs or whatnot, but it seems like restaurants that have been around for a while just start to fade. This place is back on our rotation list! We hadn't been there in at least 8-10 years. Long story short..... we just tried it again and were super glad we did! Come to find out this place had gotten new owners 2 years ago. It was very clean and the food was very good! I had the pick 2, (half bbq chicken and tri tip beef) and my husband had the pick 2 also (pulled pork and tri tip beef). Everything was very flavorful! All of our sides were delicious! It's really close to the Taconic and worth the quick jump-off, not just for the food, but the friendly faces. I sat down myself at the bar and was warmly greeted by the bartender. We got to talking and she educated me about my misconception of the proper Guinness pour from a tap. I thought it was two pours totaling 119 seconds while she told me it was actually four pours and the time doesn't matter as long as each pour settles first. Lesson learned. I had the ribs and fire roasted chicken combo with broccoli and peanut coleslaw. The coleslaw is long and stringy and not overly sweet or creamy - spot on with the great, but not overwhelming peanut crunch. The fire roasted chicken is really good and crispy and comes with extra gravy. The ribs had nice pull and didn't fall of the bone easily. The sauce was sweet with a fruity taste to it, but a little too sweet for me. They needed some heat. Overall, great food, great bartender. Remember to tip well. read more

The food here is great and plentiful but the service is lacking. We had a 7 person party reservation for 6:30pm that we made a week in advance, however when we arrived for our reservation time we were told we had to wait. We then proceeded to wait for 45 minutes until being served. I see no point in taking reservations for a designated time if you're not going to actually reserve the table. Fireside is a great combination of a rustic atmosphere, good service, and very well prepared BBQ. Dining here is both relaxing and satisfying. I can't say that their BBQ sauce is among the most memorable I've had, but the meats are just so well prepared it doesn't matter. During the evening we sampled the tri-tip, the baby back ribs, the pulled pork, and the BBQ half-chicken - there was no fat, no gristle, just very tender meat. Even the chicken was fall-off-the-bone. I really liked the peanut slaw too, not only for the texture of the peanuts but the hint of sesame oil. Service was friendly, and we were checked on frequently. My one disappointment is that their online wine list had a Finger Lakes wine - Red Newt - I was hoping to enjoy, but it was not on their current wine list (so the online wine list is probably out of date), but I found another Finger Lakes Riesling just as good. I've driven by Fireside many times over the years. It took way too long to make the first visit; it won't take anywhere near as long to return. read more

We decided to give Fireside another chance after some bad experiences in the past year. It's unfortunate that the quality and quantity of the food has become so disappointing..It was always such a treat to go there, but something has happened to this place. I understand it's under new ownership, and it's too bad after this latest experience there is no way we would ever return. The waitstaff are great. But the food is not as good as it used to be. Passing through on the way to Saratoga and stopped in for a quick dinner with my wife and son. The service was friendly, warm and prompt with the food more than solid on a busy Thursday evening - I had a 1/2 rack of ribs with a side salad, my wife the steak sandwich with baked potato and son the fillet with fries, followed by a piece of chocolate cake. We live close by so we have frequently visit this establishment but as others have mentioned it has definitely gone down hill quite a bit, low quality food, pretty slow service, this last time we were seated towards the back and it was awful, window sill totally dirty with cobwebs, as well as the floor as it hasn't been clean for a long time, that was our last time, if a restaurant wants to charge more because of the economy by all means I can understand that but try your best to be clean and have good food and good service. read more

This used to be our local "go to" when my partner was alive - haven't been back since he passed away. Tonight I decided that while eat-in (as a single) had little appeal I could do my favorites as take out. Wow has the Fireside gone downhill! Ordered Baby Back Ribs, Peanut Coleslaw, Fries with a side of Sauteed Mushrooms & Onions. Once upon a time Fireside's Peanut Coleslaw was my best coleslaw ever - today it was so bland you would think they forgot the vinegar in their used-to-be zippy vinegar and oil dressing. If you look at the pictures of other orders you would see both red and regular cabbage in the coleslaw - this time just soggy regular cabbage. At least there were plenty of peanuts. The fries were generic - obviously food service frozen fries sold in 10lb bags. The $3.25 Sauteed Mushrooms & Onions were packed in a "salad dressing on the side" sized container, consisted of mostly onions with the equivalent of half a sliced mushroom and were swimming in grease. And then there were the ribs... what a disappointment! They LOOKED lovely, shiny with a glaze of BBQ sauce, browned nicely under the glaze, but baby back ribs should fall off the bone if smoked & BBQ'd correctly. In the past this was just how Fireside made them, smokey & tender - my order today was undercooked (pink), tough with no smokey flavor and not enough BBQ sauce. Even the Garlic Rolls, which used to come drenched in melted garlic butter, were just bland and hardly had any garlic butter. We always considered the Fireside a bit "pricey" but the food quality made up for the cost - clearly that is no longer the case. The Fireside is literally 2 minutes from my house - but it is, sadly, no longer worth the drive. read more

Another awesome meal out of these guys! That's 3 times. Always friendly service, fantastic food and a great wine list (for a bbq spot)! We pretty much tried everything (except the baby back ribs). The restaurant hasn't changed much, but that is actually what makes the ambiance work, as it still has that very relaxed, laid back, home style atmosphere that is inviting. I ended up coming with a party of five and were greeted and seated very quickly on a Saturday. Our server was very attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. We were brought hot, buttered rolls, moist cubes of corn bread, and large mason jars of soda and water to start. I ordered the combo of baby back ribs and tri-tip. The meat was very tender and well flavored with smoke and sauce. The sides were mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli that countered the sweetness of the BBQ very nicely. I finally got home with my food which I ordered a steak dinner which was very over priced and it was all grizzle hardly any meat. I called the restaurant and all the owner said was he had to check the meat and the salad also was terrible all brown lettuce the cucumber were huge chunks and tomatoes needed to be cut also, seems like someone is too lazy to make a good salad like I used to get with the old owner. Quaint n Rustic Cue This local joint near Poughkeepsie is worth a stop when you are on a long trip on the Taconic expressway. The bar was littered with locals avidly attentive to the sports playing on the TVs. The place feels like a historic tavern with a stone fireplace in the dining area. I had the babyback ribs and tri-tip. The lunch special is even served on Sundays. The babyback ribs were meaty and delicious. The tri-tip was tender and beefy. I enjoyed the Asian style peanut slaw. The baked beans were also good and the Cheese-whizzy mac n cheese was comforting. I also had a summer ale to wash all this down. The onion rings were one of the best I've ever had. I suspect they were beer battered. My beer mug was the frostiest mug I've ever seen, which was a pleasantly cool surprise. After reading some yelp reviews, I decided to have the warm Apple cobbler a la mode which was also divine. The apples were never-ending. I think there were at least three whole apples in there. It was a whole lot of crunchy-cinnamon-y- apple-y indulgence. I struggled to finish it but I was triumphant and defeated the dessert. I felt a sense of gluttonous accomplishment. Oh, but it wasn't over yet.We also had the cheesecake with raspberry topping. The cheese cake had an almond biscotti crust. After a couple bites we had to take the cheesecake to go. During the car ride back to the city, the cheese cake received some warmth from the sun. We couldn't resist but to try some sun warmed car cheesecake and it was even better than the first bite. It was love at second bite; where I could taste the almond biscotti in the crust. Definitely worth a stop if you are passing through. I ordered a prime rib and it was 16 Oz. They get top dollar for the rib but there was about 6 Oz of meat the rest was all fat. The worst piece of meat I ever paid for and the server never said any thing. Other waitresses were commenting on how bad the meat was. I had ordered for others from another restaurant but had gone to Fireside specifically because one person in our house loves their food. So sorry I did.
