I make a way better batch for thanksgiving...Mac and cheese was ok fried chicken too but not for the prices ;they even switched our sides up ; unfortunately with a place like Su gar down the road whose owner is genuinely happy to see us and is a down eat in establishment and children who don't seem restless.. ORIGIN: Khalliah Murphy (aka Lady K) enjoyed cooking since she was a little girl. After completing culinary school, Murphy started a Yonkers-based catering company, and later, in 2016, moved north to open a brick and mortar cafe -- Lady K's Southern Comfort. LOCATION: Lady K's Southern Comfort is located in a small strip mall along Violet Avenue/Route 9G. Ample parking is available. CONCEPT: Lady K's offers quintessential southern comfort food, such as rice with pigeon peas and slow cooked savory collard greens, however tastes of other culinary heritages, such as empanadas, are sprinkled across the menu. Lady K's primarily offers dishes that represent home cooked southern meals -- on site, as take out, or custom catered events. SERVICE: One thing that stands out about Lady K's Southern Comfort is the homey feeling. This extends to the service. During my weekend afternoon visit Khalliah and Shawn Murphy's daughter and son were eagerly helping (Little K and Littlest K). Although customers place their orders at the counter, I was still asked whether I liked what I had chosen. My response brought a proud smile to Little K's face! EXPERIENCE: Plates are available in three sizes, with a protein and two choice of sides. I experienced the small fried chicken with collard greens and macaroni and cheese on the side. Khalliah's family were known for their fried chicken recipe in their Bronx neighborhood, so it comes as no surprise that the chicken was expertly executed -- crisp, non-greasy exterior encasing juicy, moist interior at every bite. Complementing this was the collard greens, in which multiple flavors were married and had just the right amount of vinegary flavor. Next time I will ask for double sides of collard greens -- it's that outstanding! While multiple tables are set up for dining, Lady K's is currently primarily set up for take out. Although photos on Yelp suggest there was plated service in the past, all food is now served in compartmented styrofoam take out containers. This was my only disappointment as I feel household plates and utensils would reflect the homey dishes for those who are looking to dine in. TIPS: Check Lady K's Facebook profile for rare temporary changes in daily hours. Kool Aid is one of the beverage options. I have never seen that before in a menu and I think it's available adds to the homey aspect of the meals prepared at offered at Lady K's Southern Comfort. Kool Aid was a staple in homes in my neighborhood, and the cheerfully colored packets of flavoring powders are rarely found in grocery stores today. read more

We came here this afternoon shortly after opening at 1pm. We are so glad that we dropped in. It's family run and we really like this, too. Everyone is very sweet. No frills but a lovely place to relax, enjoy a meal or drop in for some take out. It can be difficult to find good, authentic southern food. Next time I'd love to try the catfish. We were so torn. We had fried chicken, collards, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, cabbage and herb chicken. The collards here are amazing!! The fried chicken was super crispy and had a perfect crunch and the herb chicken was well marinated and had tons of flavor. The only thing is I wished my fried chicken was a little drained a bit - a lot of grease was soaking out. With that said, it was juicy and lovely. It is a personal preference on my end. The day that we went they also had a pork chop special and I'm sure this was absolutely delicious. Parking right outside as well. thank you! Some of the best fried chicken ever, great sides too. We shared the large plate of dark meat fried chicken which had two thighs and two drumsticks. Succulent, tasty, crisp outside. The excellent sides were collard greens and mac & cheese. We ordered an extra side of spicy cabbage that was also good. Sweet tea was perfect. All told, under $20. We ate in. The food is just amazing, so rich with flavor and heritage. Lady K is a master in that kitchen, even when you ask her to make something she has never made before. We've done that a few times and in each case, her recipe is the best we've ever tasted -- how does she do that when she's never even made it before?! And the "cherry on the sundae" is that you really feel like you're having a lifelong friend or family cook for you. We had Lady K's for the first time recently and I must say that we enjoyed everything we ordered! The chicken was fried to perfection, I love that the skin is coated and fried separately so it's perfectly crispy! The baked Mac was cheesy and flavorful and not overly salty as can happen with numerous cheeses. The spicy cabbage had just enough heat but so much flavor can't wait to try that with some oxtails! Bill Z the CM make a list of women owned bisinesses for Women's Day or Women's History month and this place was on the list. As I'd been craving fried chicken this place was a must -try. Lady K did not disappoint. With roots in Carolina her food was amazing. The made to order aspect can make a wait, but calling ahead is an easy fix if you're in a rush. If this rating was based on the quality of the food it would totally be 5 stars. Authentic, delicious cooking. This is why I have given them a few tries. That being said, definite improvements should be made regarding customer service and availability of items. The following have been experienced by on separate occasions: -Took 45 minutes just to purchase a gift certificate. -Came in to order lunch. No one was at the register. After a few minutes a woman came out of the kitchen and asked if I needed help, and then told a young man who was standing around to please take my order. He was not happy. I wound up leaving because they were out of 3 of the items they had listed on their board. -Again tried them for lunch. Was told that a few of the items on the board were not available. Both young ladies working there never smiled once. And it took my lunch a half hour to be prepared. I can understand that it takes time to prepare fresh food, and their fried chicken tastes just like Sunday dinner, but the 45 minute wait for the gift certificate just did me in. read more

And now I'm satisfied. The inside is small and cozy, and it's set up mostly for take-out, but you can certainly eat there in the comfortable setting. Your meats will be cooked to order, usually taking about 10 minutes, so take a few minutes to get to know the owners while you're waiting. I can probably use "delicious and moist" about everything in my order - the collards, the mac and cheese, and especially the fried chicken. There's a few unexpected surprises on the menu too. I can't wait to try the empenadas (beef or turkey). It's nice to have a source of delicious comfort food so close to home. read more

Went for a friends birthday. The service is ehh, ours was from a very young teenager who maybe had to be there. You had to wait over an half and a half for the food, which was all brought out one plate at a time. But the chicken was soooooo good. I still placed my order: dark meat fried chicken with a side of yams and rice and peas. My order was ready when I got to the restaurant. Lady K set me up on a table and left me to enjoy my meal. Although I enjoyed the crunchiness of the chicken, the meat was not well seasoned. The rice and peas were tasty but a bit sticky; I was expecting the rice to be a bit dryer. The yams were very good and sweet. It was my only meal at this place, maybe it was an off day in the kitchen. Came here on a whim on the way back from the city. Wanted a fairly priced meal that was not fast food, or pizza for once. Didn't really know what to expect being that we arrived 30 min before closing time on a Sunday. Ordered a lunch Herb Roasted chicken platter with Mac n cheese on the side as well as two empanadas (jerk pork). Expected it to be a buffet behind the counter sort of deal like some Jamaican food places, but everything came straight from the kitchen. While we were waiting for the food, I was notified that they were out of the beef and jerk chicken filling for the empanadas. This didn't phase me because I understood what day and time we had arrived at and really wasn't picky on what type to eat. Anyway, we waited and waited when it finally dawned on me; they were preparing the meal from scratch- it doesn't get anymore "home style" than this. The chicken was out of this world, seasoned with rosemary and I believe thyme? Very juicy, with just the right amount of salt. The Mac n Cheese did not disappoint either. The empanadas were a tad small but the quality and taste were definitely present. And for you spice heads out there, request the hot sauce.. no, not the bottled Franks hot sauce, but their homemade hot sauce. Very spicy and delicious. The ONLY negative was the 2 hour drive I had ahead of me when I just wanted to take a nap lol. Lastly, as we were eating our meal we witnessed multiple people pull up after closing time and walked out with food. Talk about love for the customer and what you do.
