The hotel became famous because of Mrs. Lacey's cooking.....of course history remembers this hotel as the site Sherman used as military headquarter during the Battle of Kennesaw.... The exact location is not certain even though apparently there are many theories.... The marker in located in front of the Kennesaw Veterans Memorial Park off of North Main Street in downtown historical Kennesaw.... The marker reads: Eastward across R. R. stood the 2-story frame hotel, leased by George M. Lacy in 1859 -- an eating house for passengers on the State-owned railway until June 9, 1864, at which time the Federal forces occupied Big Shanty. April 12, 1862, the Andrews Raiders [USA] seized the locomotive "General" while train crew & passengers were breakfasting at the hotel. Fortified by a stockade, it housed a Federal garrison from June 9 to Oct. 3, 1864, when it was recaptured by Confederate forces. Reoccupied by Federal troops it was maintained as a R. R. blockhouse until abandoned & burned by them, Nov. 14.

I've been doing some market research on how to start a business and the library is a one stop shop for all of my needs. The building is bright, airy, and spotless--with large windows that let in lots of natural light and plenty of comfy seating around . There's a great children's section with learning toys, a clean and welcoming teen/young adult room, plus a dedicated makerspace and a fully stocked computer training lab. I even brought my daughter and granddaughter here and they actually learned a lot and had fun. Plenty of study rooms--perfect for group work or meeting quietly--are available, and the outdoor plaza is a great spot for programs or just chilling with a book. Free Wi‑Fi, public computers, printing, scanning, and copier services make it super convenient whether you're a student, a freelancer, or just wanting to browse. What really stands out is the staff--they're welcoming, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. Shot out to Sarah, Alice, Alecia and the entire team over there. Whether you need tech assistance, program info, or a book recommendation, someone's there to answer your questions. I didn't feel intimidated at all when asking questions. All in all, whether you're bringing the kids, getting work done, getting away from the kids, or diving into a new hobby, North Cobb Regional Library offers everything--and the vibe's just right. Tons of parking outside. They also have a beautiful garden outside! I loved walking through it and seeing what they were growing (blueberries, sunflowers, jalapeños). They have tons of events going on here including a play cafe for toddlers on Tuesdays, Wednesday's and Thursday. We just moved to Georgia and couldn't wait to locate the closest library and sign up for library cards. The librarian who assisted us was wonderful! So so sweet and helpful. She even helped us get registered to vote. She explained all that we could do at the library and how many books (50) we could check out at a time. The kid's area of the library had a huge selection of fun books to choose from and also had an area of toys for my daughter to play with. I loved that they had a "chill out" room where you could nurse your baby, change a diaper, or have some quiet time if needed. Very cool. It's directly located across from North Cobb High School so I can imagine it might get busy during the school year once school lets out. 10/10 recommend this beautiful library.

I really didn't know exactly what I expected to find so, I had no agenda but, to get a feel for the geography and maybe discern a reason they would head for Texas in the 1850s. Marietta is north of Atlant in Cobb county. I found a thriving metropolis surrounding verdant hills with huge trees. Looking closer I found traces of the old Marietta. Before General Sherman burned it in 1864 during the civil war. There are only two original buildings downtown left from that destruction. One is now the Marietta History Museum. I'll cover it in another review but, it is one of the best small museums I've ever visited. Visiting the Marietta City Cemetery gave me a feel for the Old. It's on a hill close to downtown and I could imagine from here, the coalescing of a small dusty town forming in the distance. In that town, my great-grandfather xs 3 became the 4th Sherriff in 1838. After spending a day exploring the area I didn't come away with anything you would consider "concrete". However, I do have the satisfaction of knowing they were here in the early days of pushing westward of our country. That's exciting to me. Especially in light of the fact that I'm sitting close to where they settled in Texas and I do know that history very well. My current day assessment of Marietta for those possibly interested in moving there. I found it to be a great little city that I myself would live in. It's got a special feeling that's hard to put in words. I talked to a lot of people and most are from somewhere else. Marietta is a great place to live,work,retire they said one after the other.

And while all this futuristic stuff is nice, you'll still be able to stop in and ask a question of the real librarian staff in person. Plenty of real-live printed stuff still exists here (even Periodicals). While you're there, check out the children's programs onsite and virtually. Spaces allow for community events like tax prep and other civic causes throughout the year as well. Flexible hours make it easy to visit around work and school. Let your kids pick a random book from the large selection, or get specific with the online catalog terminals. Once you have everything selected, self-checkout will speed you on your way, or go old-school and take it to the counter. The children's section is separated and what noise there is from little children is muted and kind of cute. Agree with all the positives in other reviews, but also unfortunately agree with Haley. This is easily the noisiest library I've ever been in dating back to grade school. Most of the staff operate exactly as you'd expect in a library, but a couple are quite loud, which invites some patrons to be loud in their interactions with those staff members. Earphones won't do the job. You need noise cancelling headphones. There is a large staff area/back room, and I'd love to see them move the desk for passport calls into that room, or into the dedicated passport meeting room itself.
