This historical marker commemorates the site of a famous hotel in the area around the time of Civil…read morewar named The Lacey Hotel named after George and Edna Lacey. The hotel became famous because of Mrs. Lacey's cooking.....of course history remembers this hotel as the site Sherman used as military headquarter during the Battle of Kennesaw.... The exact location is not certain even though apparently there are many theories.... The marker in located in front of the Kennesaw Veterans Memorial Park off of North Main Street in downtown historical Kennesaw.... The marker reads: Eastward across R. R. stood the 2-story frame hotel, leased by George M. Lacy in 1859 -- an eating house for passengers on the State-owned railway until June 9, 1864, at which time the Federal forces occupied Big Shanty. April 12, 1862, the Andrews Raiders [USA] seized the locomotive "General" while train crew & passengers were breakfasting at the hotel. Fortified by a stockade, it housed a Federal garrison from June 9 to Oct. 3, 1864, when it was recaptured by Confederate forces. Reoccupied by Federal troops it was maintained as a R. R. blockhouse until abandoned & burned by them, Nov. 14.

Best Library in Cobb County, HANDS DOWN!…read more Over the last 6 months I've been spending time at various libraries throughout the city and surrounding areas, and I tell you nothing compares to The North Regional Library in Kennesaw, GA - Cobb County. I've been doing some market research on how to start a business and the library is a one stop shop for all of my needs. The building is bright, airy, and spotless--with large windows that let in lots of natural light and plenty of comfy seating around . There's a great children's section with learning toys, a clean and welcoming teen/young adult room, plus a dedicated makerspace and a fully stocked computer training lab. I even brought my daughter and granddaughter here and they actually learned a lot and had fun. Plenty of study rooms--perfect for group work or meeting quietly--are available, and the outdoor plaza is a great spot for programs or just chilling with a book. Free Wi‑Fi, public computers, printing, scanning, and copier services make it super convenient whether you're a student, a freelancer, or just wanting to browse. What really stands out is the staff--they're welcoming, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. Shot out to Sarah, Alice, Alecia and the entire team over there. Whether you need tech assistance, program info, or a book recommendation, someone's there to answer your questions. I didn't feel intimidated at all when asking questions. All in all, whether you're bringing the kids, getting work done, getting away from the kids, or diving into a new hobby, North Cobb Regional Library offers everything--and the vibe's just right. Highly recommend stopping by!

Such a beautiful library! Bright and airy, very clean, teen room/young adult room, makerspace,…read moreplenty of study rooms, and so much more. They offer computers and printers for public use. Tons of parking outside. They also have a beautiful garden outside! I loved walking through it and seeing what they were growing (blueberries, sunflowers, jalapeños). They have tons of events going on here including a play cafe for toddlers on Tuesdays, Wednesday's and Thursday. We just moved to Georgia and couldn't wait to locate the closest library and sign up for library cards. The librarian who assisted us was wonderful! So so sweet and helpful. She even helped us get registered to vote. She explained all that we could do at the library and how many books (50) we could check out at a time. The kid's area of the library had a huge selection of fun books to choose from and also had an area of toys for my daughter to play with. I loved that they had a "chill out" room where you could nurse your baby, change a diaper, or have some quiet time if needed. Very cool. It's directly located across from North Cobb High School so I can imagine it might get busy during the school year once school lets out. 10/10 recommend this beautiful library.

But I'm very impressed how well…read morea funeral convoy was escorted from the Funeral home located on the Main street in Acworth to the Rolling hills cemetery in Acworth GA. Going through a several red lights smoothly was nice. I was driving the last car going to the burial ground, so I enjoyed knowing that the blue lights flashing behind me was not chasing me. This time my tax $ went to good use.

Not a Safe or Supportive Environment for Students of Color…read more As a student at Kennesaw State University, I strongly advise against living in an off-campus house in Acworth without thoroughly vetting your roommates. My experience with the Acworth Police Department was deeply concerning. Despite multiple police reports regarding serious conflicts, including incidents of domestic violence and retaliation from my roommates, I found the department to be dismissive, unresponsive, and unwilling to provide proper assistance. Rather than ensuring my safety, I was treated as a nuisance. Only a handful of officers treated me respectfully while most Officers displayed frustration instead of professionalism, and accurate documentation of incidents was not a priority. As a person of color, I did not feel protected or served by this department, and my concerns were not taken seriously. If you are a Black student or a person of color considering housing in Acworth, be aware that the level of police support you receive may not meet the standard of care you would expect. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this area as a safe or supportive environment for students dealing with difficult roommate situations.
