Dr. Hokai Wang did my first ever dental filling with local anesthetic. I expressed how nervous I was about it, and he was very calming. When he injected the local anesthetic into my cheek, I was surprised by how gentle he was and how painless the anesthetic was. He made sure to not rush the injection so it wouldn't hurt. He also found another cavity while doing my first filling and filled it for me while I was already numb, which I am grateful for. He took the time with me afterwards to answer all of my questions. The front desk staff and dental hygienists at this dental practice are also friendly, nice, and thorough - shout out to Evelyn, my favorite hygienist! I've been going to Dr. Woo's office for over 20 years and still continue going today because they're professional, friendly and very considerate of their patients. I have seen both Dr. Edmond Woo and Dr. Wang on various occasions for cleanings and regular check-ups. My appointments are quick and there's barely a wait-time if at all every time that I have gone. My hygienist today was Evelyn and she does an amazing job as well. Staff here are all very welcoming. The facility is very clean and I've personally witnessed the staff wipe down all equipment prior to and after each patient visit. There's a nice stream of background music they play as well which is nice. There's a private lot in the back for convenient parking and street parking out in front. If you're looking for a dentist in the Kensington or Wheaton area, I would highly recommend Dr. Woo's office. read more

I've been going to Dr. Woo since I was a kid and now that I'm a mom in my 30's, I bring my entire family here even though I live in NOVA. The reception is always warm, welcoming, and helpful - which is not what you normally find at medical offices of any kind. They seem to have the latest technology from appointment making tools to dental equipment. The office is bright and clean. My experience with the dental hygienist and Dr. Woo has been really good. His bedside manner is very calm and capable with a healthy dose of unassuming charm. I prefer my dentist not make small talk with me during a procedure for obvious reasons, so I appreciate that he is not talkative. He was able to explain my problem areas and potential risks in a way that I could understand and do something about at home. I can understand why there have been some negative reviews about the practice, but it seems most of these reviewers are having issue with having teeth problems and needing to pay for it, and not the actual diagnosis and preventive measures this practice takes. Anyways, if you want to have an honest and capable dentist, look no further than Dr. Woo. In and out with healthy teeth. We're fans! read more

I just went in to see Dr. Edmond Woo and even though I hate going to the dentist he made the experience as pleasant as possible. I had a set of x-rays taken and a thorough exam of my teeth and gums. Dr. Woo took the time to review my teeth, explain what he found and answered any questions that I had. He was very time-efficient but still very thorough, gave me an excellent cleaning, and had suggestions on how to take even better care of my teeth. The staff was very friendly and was greeted as soon as I walked in. They took the time to call my insurance to look up estimates and even emailed me a copy of the estimates so that I did not have to wait. The equipment is modern and the facility is very clean. I cannot recommend Dr. Woo and his staff more highly...they are all simply amazing. The music in the office is also top notch! read more

There is always a friendly/welcoming reception staff greeting you as you enter the door. Plus the dental assistants and dentists are really nice and comforting. Been here since I was a toddler and I had never had a terrifying, or painful experience throughout my 20 years being with this practice. I trust the dentists here with their dental diagnosis. I have yet to have an issue with my teeth after having preventative measures taken care of. Granted, I always had dental insurance throughout my life and tried my best to take care of my teeth, but I never had any issues with the prices due to my insurance covering most of it. Plus I have never experienced any shady/hidden fees (unlike the optometrists in the area). TIP: If you are going to cancel an appointment, do it before the 24 hour mark, or else you may be charged a last minute cancellation fee. read more

Stay away. I went to Woo's Kensington office to get a second opinion. Another dentist told me that I had one deep cavity that was getting to the point that I could end up needing a root canal. But he said that there still appeared to be enough tooth around the nerve to fill the cavity. He also said I had another tooth that might have a cavity. I don't trust dentists, so I sought a second opinion. I went to Woo's Kensington office. They took me back. They put me in the dental chair. The hygienist, some old white woman, came over. I told her that I had X-rays that I wanted the dentist to review. I also told her that I had had my teeth cleaned like two months ago, if that. She reacted strangely. Then she started poking around in my mouth. I thought she was just looking around. Then she started cleaning my teeth. I have extreme dental anxiety and felt powerless to ask her to stop. She cleaned my teeth even though they were well-nigh spotless and I told her that I had already had it done. She used me as an object to advance her financial interests. Shady, unethical conduct. I am thinking about filing a formal complaint against her. Then Woo came over. He is some old Asian guy, probably Chinese or Korean. He looks shady too. He looked at my X-rays and poked around in my mouth. He was chipping away at my teeth so hard that it seemed like he was trying to create a cavity. While he did this, the unethical hygienist stood over me as if she was trying to dominate me. Woo said I had a whopping FOUR cavities and that one of them required a root canal. Then I went out to the reception area to wait for them to give me an estimate. Although his receptionists are very nice, they told me that the cost of the entire treatment (three cavities filled and a root canal) would be $2,200. I know I have bad insurance and everything, but come on. Some young guy, probably a high school student, entered the reception area after his evaluation and/or treatment. He looked really stressed. He said he needed to be scheduled for one or two root canals. After Woo just told me that I needed a root canal, contrary to the first dentist's recommendation, I was highly skeptical. The whole idea of getting an honest second opinion, as you can tell, backfired miserably. I went back to the first dentist to have my cavities filled. He filled two cavities, including the deep one. I have not had any problems. So much for the root canal. Stay away from this outfit. EDIT: About to usher in 2018 and STILL haven't had ANY problems with the tooth that allegedly needed a root canal but only received a filling from another dentist. read more

I am sorry that I have to completely edit my positive review. I loved this place, and I couldn't say anything more positive about it. The office was efficiently run, my appointments were always quick, and I had recommended it to friends. The dentists were always personable. However, I recently found out just how much they had ripped me off. I am very diligent when it comes to dental hygiene. I brush twice daily, floss daily, and I've never had a cavity in my life. At one visit, I was told that I had a cavity that definitely needed to be filled, and that I had five others that were "pre-cavities." I decided to have that one cavity filled, and after it was filled, the dentist pulled up my previous x-rays and said that I should have the remaining "pre-cavities" filled too. This set off a red flag, and I decided to get a second opinion. When I set an appointment with another dentist, they did a new set of x-rays, and they told me that there wasn't a "pre-cavity" in sight and no work needed to be done. To make matters worse, they looked at the filling I'd been given at Dr. Woo's office, and it wasn't even a filling. They told me that a sealant had been put in instead. I had paid for a filling, and if I hadn't sought a second opinion, Dr. Woo's office would have needlessly charged me/drilled into five other teeth. Everybody knows that needless drilling can considerably weaken your teeth, so I can't tell you how happy I am that I went elsewhere and got some honesty. read more

I've just finished having my third appointment with this office, and I am never coming back. While the dental service has been okay, the office staff is nothing short of incompetent. While I have scheduled three appointments with this office, often months in advance, they keep trying to reschedule me on the day of the appointment. In the past, I agreed to move my appointment, and even agreed to be seen in their Gaithersburg office. But because my schedule today was booked solid, I could not reschedule the appointment I made 4 months ago. Today, when they called me at 10:50 to see whether I could come in at 11:00, I told them that I would not be able to come in until 11:40 as scheduled. Five minutes after hanging up with the office manager, I received a text saying that my appointment was rescheduled to 1:00 pm. So, I called the office back to again insist that I come in at 11:40 or to cancel the appointment, but the office manager said that my appointment would be at 11:40 as planned. Well, I arrived at the office at 11:35, and waited. And waited and waited. When I threatened to leave, the office manager kept promising that I would be seen "in 5 minutes." But the new deadline kept slipping. I was not seen until 12:30. To their credit, they offered a $25 credit toward my next visit for my "inconvenience." But I declined. While I appreciate that good dentists are often busy, I expect them to have a front office that is capable of keeping its appointments as scheduled. A 10 minute delay is fine, but a 50 minute delay -- despite two conversations -- is not acceptable, and a chronic history of misscheduled/rescheduled appointments is inexcusable. read more

My initial impression was positive even though they were running far behind and I had to come back for my cleaning that day. So I scheduled a second appointment for a filling on a crown that I had a root canal on. The filling that was done is composite but for some reason it looks like a silver filling after 6 months. Was the material inferior or just carelessness by the dentist? I do not have any other silver fillings in my mouth and as a matter of fact I paid a great deal of money to have the ones I had replaced with composite, so that is a BIG WTF!!! While I was at the office that day I scheduled a cleaning for 3 months later and prior to my visit I have to take antibiotics, the Dr. told me to call a couple of days prior to get a RX. While I was at PT for my very new knee replacement hence the pre-treatment antibiotics, their new, I think, receptionist calls me to remind me of my appointment and I reminded her that they needed to call in a RX for antibiotics. She proceeded to tell me they did not do that and kept on and on. I finally interrupted her and told her what I thought and hung up. It was very apparent she needed more training and a reminder that she was not the Dr. and maybe review the note in the appointment block. The new dentist quest continues. read more

They charged me$150 for a exam! Then I ask office staff. The guy said last time I came for a exam which I didn't pay for. However, the dentist didn't check and find any problem and told me to bring my braces dentist's note then he can find out the problem. So he charged me $85 for talking less than 5min with the dentist. $65 for a exam. I will never go there again. read more

Very disturbing experience. Our 25 year-old babysitter who does not have dental insurance came to this office for the new patient special that was advertised on a postcard. It was for a free cleaning and digital xrays for new patients. She would only need to pay for the dental exam. She had the cleaning and exam and was told that she required a root canal for a cavity. Conveniently, they could schedule it for the next day. It was over $2000. When she told us about it, we advised her to get a second opinion and to wait on scheduling the root canal so quickly. A root canal is a big deal and very expensive - why not get a second opinion? When she asked for a copy of her digital xrays to be sent to my dentist, Dr. Woo's office charged her $75. Just for the xrays. That were free and digital. It was as if they knew that a second opinion meant we wouldn't be returning so they needed to recoup whatever money they could. Honestly, if you are an ethical, competent practice, there should be no insecurity over someone getting a second opinion on your clinical decisions. If the second opinion was congruent, you would get that business. It seemed majorly sketch. Well, lo and behold, my dentist who I've had for 10 years (very competent, knows her dentistry) disagreed with the assessment. There was a cavity, but a root canal was not necessary. She filled the cavity. Total $300. She was also very leery of having a general dentist do the root canal versus an endodontist. Overall, yikes. Would not recommend. Addendum: In response to the owner's comment about the strangeness of writing a review for not being the patient: It's not strange at all. Our babysitter (who is like family) asked me to write this on her behalf as English is not her first language. She was and continues to be completely asymptomatic. I'm the one who had lengthy discussions with an unpleasant office manager about her xray fees, and I'm the one who discussed the case fully with my own dentist, arranged the second opinion, and debriefed with my dentist afterwards. My dentist's entire office staff could NOT believe the diagnosis and recommendation and simply shook their heads in disbelief. read more

I've been a patient of this practice for over 10 years--this is where I actually got my braces when I was around 15. My review is primarily for one of the providers there: Dr. Wang. Let me just say how AMAZING Dr. Wang is as a provider and a person in general. I have the utmost respect for this guy! Aside from the exceptional dental care he provides, he oozes a confidence, awareness and patience with my dental needs. I was there a few days ago and got my (2) fillings repaired/6 month cleaning by him! Got everything I needed done during my visit-which is the norm every time I see him. Going to the dentist has always been a nerve-wrecking experience just because of the history of cavities I've had while growing up (poor habits on my end as a kid) so I would always go in to get a lot of dental work. But I digress-- I never write reviews but I want to give credit where credit is due! I'm moving out of state for school but you best believe I am still coming back to him for my dental needs! Avoid Avoid AVOID! Dr. Kenneth Woo's office is a complete disaster to say the least. Although the front desk staff can be deceivingly kind and seem interested in you as a patient, this is not the case, they are solely interested in scamming as much money from you and the insurance companies as possible. Dr. Woo will see you for a whopping 90 seconds and either say you are good to go, or that you need to come back for an exorbitantly priced procedure, which is most of the time unnecessary. When I was told of said procedure, I looked in awe and clearly was upset, but being the terrible and money-hungry dentist he is, there was no rapport and any sort of empathy or "how are you doing, why do you feel this way, what upsets you, what questions do you have?" NONE. I was referred elsewhere and got a second opinion from a trusted family friend who had was 110% certain this procedure did not need to be done whatsoever. Took my family and I and we left the Woo practice, and hope they will have a bad name from now on, because this is absolutely unacceptable. No patient should ever be taken advantage of, let alone ignored. If you don't care enough anymore then clearly it's time to retire. read more

I have not had the best experience with Dr. Woo's practice. While the reception staff were pleasant, they continually tried to up-sell me cosmetic dentistry options when I was only there for a cleaning. Even after my appointment was over, they continued to ask me to "take a picture of my smile" so that they could send me a "digital smile make-over". Because I have a wisdom tooth coming in, I asked the dentist for advice about whether to have it removed or not. Instead of giving me an answer, I was persuaded to pay for an expensive whole-mouth x-ray. After reviewing it, the dentist determined it gave no more information than the side-mouth X-ray included in my cleaning and I was still not given advice about whether to have the tooth removed. Also, they use ultrasound technology to clean your teeth, rather than the "traditional" way with the electric toothbrush. I found the new technology painful and it was not explained to me before the cleaning began so I was unprepared. I will not be returning to this practice. read more

I wished we would have reviewed before we went... simply put, the woman responcible for billing tried 3 times to rip me and my wife off. When confronted she dismissed it by saying she would make it up next time. (his wife?) My wife received 7 shots on one occasion for what was considered a 'Minor cavity'. Dr. Woo may be a good dentist, but we would not know since neither my wife nor myself ever met the man but were seen by his associates. The waiting room is so small that if you need to talk in private you have to ask to go into the next room. A good friend of ours was told she would be charged $20 as a new customer for check up. Received a bill for $175 and was told thay had to do extra things that were not included. They have a monthly news letter that still has us as well as our friend as their new happy clients. Our friend went once and that was over a year ago. We had to call and demand that our name be taken off their list even after we wrote a letter stating we would never come back. FAIR WARNING read more
