This place is so beautiful. It's a short hike around the falls but if you take a right can go on for a long time I'm not sure how long because I have never went that full way. On the way up there are stairs and lookouts over the falls. They were recently redone and looks so nice. I love going here. Right now the bathrooms are locked so if you go have a picnic at the tables below you might have to leave to find a bathroom about 8 mins up the road in a store or restaurant. I think the bathrooms open on memorial day but I'm not sure. There are picnic tables in the grassy area and benches along the right side of the falls. read more

Kent Falls State Park is a lovely gem located in the town of Kent, CT; it was established in 1919. Kent Falls is a waterfall with a 250 feet drop. There is a trail going up from the picnic area; there were a few picnic tables and restrooms near the parking lot. The parking lot was spacious. I really loved the covered bridge going into the park. At the base of the waterfall, there were steps and a viewing platform. It's such a beautiful location and serene to see and hear the waterfall. It's a great spot to hike, fish, or picnic! I look forward to going back again soon. read more

Parking is free for CT registered vehicles and there were plenty of spaces the day we went. Good slight inclined stroll for those wanting to get some steps in with a great view. There were some park guides who helped direct people away from the unassuming drop offs and to well marked paths. Overall a short "hike" with plenty of picnic space at the base of the park. Head over to the Blue Gate Bakery after for a good post walk snack! read more

Kent Falls is one of the most popular things in this part of Connecticut. I remember seeing signs on 84 in Danbury when the their parking lot was full. I went in the fall, and even though I consider it more beautiful, there was room to park aplenty. There wasn't even a ranger in the station. You get into the park itself from the parking lot by crossing a small covered footbridge, with a sign announcing it was buildt by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Ah, high school history.... The falls is a short walk from the footbridge with a large field for children to frolic, dogs to sniff, and people to sit at benches while questionable grills cook their food. The falls themselves are lovely, but you're not to swim in them. Around the base of the falls is a stone viewing area with places to sit.... I wonder if people used to perform there or something. There is a staircase going up the side, and hiking trails at the top I BELIEVE. The park used to be further up the road back in the day. Theres a big field with an old chimney structure. Parking has been blocked from to street and the circular drive leading up to it. Cars drive quickly, I'm not sure how safe it is to see. read more

Im big on hiking & i gotta say Kent Falls was absolutely breathtaking! My first time on this trail in early spring & I loved everything about it. The first thing you'll notice when you arrive is the scenic view covered by various trees, a beautiful bridge, a river, & the overlook of the massive waterfall just steps away with the opportunity to sit & take pictures. Just beyond that is the actual hiking trail with steep steps ( I recommend wearing comfortable hiking shoes & apparel). The waterfall goes back quite a ways but the trail itself is not time consuming. Dogs are welcome & I have even seen fisherman along the streams ( I would double check however ) Kent Falls has it all. I stopped several times to take pictures and admire the spectacular views. 10/10 recommend- its definitely worth the trip! read more

Visiting Kent Falls State Park has long been on my list of places to visit in CT. It has plenty of free parking (for in state visitors) and as you walk under the covered bridge into the park, you are almost immediately met by the spectacular waterfalls. The trail up the falls is an easy hike with various look out points to get some beautiful pictures. I went in late September, after a rainstorm so crowds were nonexistent, and the waterfall was rapidly flowing. It was a peaceful place to visit especially hearing the sounds of the falls throughout the hike. There are lots of great farms, breweries, wineries, and other hiking trails near here, so it makes for a great stop while checking out the area! read more

"Don't go chasing waterfalls" (TLC) Some folks out there really do chase waterfalls, and by that, I mean they collect them in the form of visitations. Sort of like visiting all 50 states or every National Park or Major League stadium. No doubt, those good folks have put a check mark next to Kent Falls, so it's possible we saw them yesterday among the many visitors we shared the park's beautiful scenery with. There is a covered bridge, trout fishing, picnic tables, grills and real bathrooms on the park grounds. Oh yeah, and those waterfalls. We saw a mountain stream that became a series of waterfalls that drop 250 feet or so in stages before the water enters the Housatonic River. The falls are surrounded by limestone rock and it was very cool to see the shapes and craters created by the water over the decades. There are stone stairs and a trail that take you up to the top of the falls. It's just a quarter mile walk, but it'll feel like you've been on a Nordic Track for three hours, because the trail is very steep and some of the steps are very high. But it's worth the effort because the scenic vantage points up the hill give you some great photo ops and the opportunity for your heart rate to normalize. It's absolutely worth your time, whether you chase waterfalls or not. read more

Nice little hike for last minute planning over the weekend! Luckily not too crowded. Park closes at sunset. $15 for parking for out of state residents (license plate). There is a nice little waterfall to look at...but flowing slowly for October. Park folks said the water flows more in the spring right after the snow melts. Oh well. Wasn't too crowded once you star the trail...note there are inclines so not a flat hike. Best to wear hiking shoes are if you plan to hike. There are 2 trails - red and yellow if you follow the markings. We didn't have a map so just followed the markings. At one point it was confusing towards the end as the flags/tags were red, yellow and orange... both trails led to red but the one facing the highway was the way out (hint: go to the right). We didn't know what orange was unless it was exit or red that had faded. When raining or the ground is wet, it can be slippery especially in the fall with leaves on the ground and the rocks. So be careful... there are some areas where the trail is narrow and towards the edge. Spent almost 2 hours hiking - wasn't too bad but be prepared as there are some inclines and declines and not a flat surface. There is a little picnic area and some benches...just clean up after yourself. Restrooms - there are 2 porta-potties in the parking lot close by the red barn bridge. read more

Came here in November and what a very easy hike this was not strenuous at all and you get to enjoy the multi-level waterfalls. You just park and walk through a mini covered bridge, you have the end of the water fall trail to your left. Walk and go straight up and it is right in front of you. This beautiful park has an open grass area to play, picnic on. With an awesome trail up the waterfall, beautiful scenery and fresh crispy air!! so beautiful and peaceful. I really like this place. It was a nice stop over while exploring and visiting parts of Connecticut. read more

We had a wonderful time at Kent Falls State Park. It is absolutely lovely in Kent it was my first time there so I really spent some time just looking around and taking some pictures it's a beautiful place to spend time and I imagine the people who live here must absolutely love it. We saw the waterfalls which were magnificent. There a picnic benches all over the park so there's plenty of places to sit people are playing with the dogs and the kids are playing sports and it's just a nice overall vibe that I really enjoyed. There was no way I couldn't give the park a five. While we enjoy the park and the waterfalls and all that Kent has to offer, The real highlight of the day was somebody's dog which has to be the cutest little puppy of ever seen. Half the park was gathered around taking pictures of him. Shout out to the owners for being so gracious about it. I am definitely a dog Groupie and this little puppy really should be doing modeling ads as he is one of the cutest if not the cutest puppies I have ever seen. Definitely made the day complete. I look forward to going back to Kent Falls park at a later time and Enjoying all it has to offer. read more

Serene hiking path up steep steps that flank the waterfalls in a park lovingly crafted by WPA workers in the 1930s. At five turns, wooden platforms allow long looks at the pools, fissures and rounded rocks of different stages of the waterfall. Most spectacular in cold snaps when tongues of ice protrude in giant taunts. Up top you can pop over to a path through the woods and ravines to circle back to parking lot, making a satisfying and moderate mile hike. I usually stop at the waterfall platforms to do yoga to the rushing music of the waters. read more

After 3 years of hiking/blogging waterfalls, Kent Falls is still my favorite waterfall experience so far in Connecticut. Kent Falls has a variety of falls fueled by an unassuming water source Kent Falls Brook. It's approximately a 250 total drop. The hike is on the easy side of moderate. There is a nicely manicured stone stairway trail leading you up the falls but some steps are very steep and still require some leg work. There is a covered bridge, picnic tables, etc. The gates are left open for free entry after Columbus Day but usually there is a $15 non CT plate fee, $9 CT plate. It's well worth it though. How many waterfalls will you see in one park? Hmmm. Every time I visit the count is different, but at least well over a dozen and a variety of styles of falls including plunges, horsetails, blocks, fans, etc. Bring your camera and selfie stick. These falls are photogenic. read more

The most beautiful waterfalls in Connecticut. You'll find a large parking lot, well maintained fields and a picture perfect stream leading to the base of the falls. It is worth a visit. The trail up needs a few repairs and the trail down is a bit underwhelming. The viewing platforms on the way up provide excellent stops for sight seeing, rest and pictures. A gem. OK... now for a dose of reality. If you're lucky you'll see tons of people playing in the water or smoking weed at the very top of the falls. Nothing screams Nature's Beauty like crowds of wet people splashing in a waterfall, t-shirts clinging to their bulk, children in bathing suits splashing next to unsafe drops. Don't let those "No Entry" signs fool you, clearly they're meant to keep out bears. It feels like a community pool. But wait, there's more. The park isn't big so you'll rarely feel alone... in a State Park. Still, it's worth going especially if you like to watch strangers take waterfall selfies. read more

Came here early November to see some autumn colors but we were probably a week late. Most of leaves have already fallen on the ground but the scenery was still great. There's a quick hike up if you want to see the falls. The water flow wasn't great when we were there but the view was still beautiful. Dogs are allowed too, as long as they're leashed. We brought our small dog with us. All in all, an enjoyable morning activity for the family. read more

What a amazing state park and a must if you are in the neighborhood. The parking fee is $15 but well worth it and lots to fo while you are here. They have really nice park benches with bbq's and super clean bathrooms. There are a few routes to walk up and down the waterfall and is pretty expansive. It's a tough climb for some to the top of the waterfall due too steep steps but very doable with kids. There is landing spots throughout the climb to take advantage of all the nice spots of the waterfall. Once you reach the top there are multiple ways down with the longest being .57th of a mile. read more

Park A great park managed by clueless bureaucrats who don't have a clue. The misery starts 2-minutes after you park and are told that interstate vehicles must login to reserveamerica.com. Unfortunately there is no wifi so the potential visitors were walking all over the parking lot looking for a cell signal. We couldn't find one, so we drove a couple of miles down the road until we found a signal. That's when the real fun begins. Navigating this website is a nightmare. There is no guest login. You must sign up. The site is full of spam and offers. If you accidentally check any of the blue boxes--you're a member and they'll Candace your card every month. The Connecticut parks department executives must have been on some pretty heavy drugs, in the middle of a seizure or totally brain dead when they picked reserve America as a vendor. This vendor turns what should be a relaxing day at the park into a challenge. Luckily, the solution is easy. Install wifi and hire a 12-Year-old to redesign the website--or put a few old-fashioned envelopes on top of a lockbox and get visitors to fill them in when they arrive. Life should not be this difficult. read more

We checked out Kent Falls for the first time this past week. I was pretty excited to see the falls and I couldn't have imagined how amazing they were. From the parking lot, there is a small covered bridge leading to the falls. In the park there are great spots for a family outing, with grills. Straight ahead is a 250 foot tall waterfall with a bunch of drops. At the base of the falls there is a trail leading up the hill. There are many stops with overlooks on the way up the trail for photo opportunities. You can make your way all the way to the top of the falls, over 250 feet up and look down the entire falls. I highly recommend this place. But, there are a few things to know before you go. Out of state residents pay $15 to park on weekends and holidays. You CAN NOT go in the water here. There are park employees almost the entire way up the trail making sure you don't go in the water. Dogs are allowed. This place is a must see. I can't wait to go back in the fall to see the colors. read more

I am disappointed that the drought dried up the waterfall, but the park and the views and I he entire hike trail is very non-taxing, amazing and beautiful! Plus for some reason, there was nobody to man the gates, so we didn't get charged the otherwise normal entrance fee. 15 for non Residents and 9 for the residents... read more

The waterfalls themselves are beautiful, and I love how stairs are built right into the mountain with large observation decks so that you can follow them right to the source. It's definitely worth coming here just for the gorgeous views alone. After viewing the falls, we tried hiking around, but the hiking trails are extremely short, and we hiked around the whole park in about 40 minutes. Besides the waterfalls, this is a pleasant park to just hang out in. I took off a star because there's a charge for parking ($9 for in-state cars and even more for out-of-state cars). What a lovely park! The Kent Falls are so very pretty! As Christine C. mentioned, there's a great trail that leads to the top of the falls, with many lookout points along the way. It's a fun little trek with plenty of opportunities for some amazing photographs. And for those of you who aren't as inclined to take the short hike, there is a ton of lawn space at the foot of the falls where you can spend the day stretching out on a blanket with your favorite picnic fare. There are also a few picnic tables throughout, as well as a public restroom. And dogs are allowed! The park seems to be a weekend destination for many folks in the area (and those vacationing from nearby cities--NYC, perhaps?) who are looking for a little low-cost summer retreat. There is a parking fee on weekends/holidays: $7 per car if you've got a Connecticut license plate; $10 for out-of-state plates. Not too bad for a day of outside fun in a really gorgeous setting, huh? One last thing: if you wear your bathing suit, you can totally get in the water at the bottom of the falls! There are lots of kids who do that though, so if screaming, splashing kids aren't your thing, just stick to dry land. You'll be happy. read more

Love Kent Falls State Park in summer. The park is relaxing and nice, also has a small trek right next to the falls! Not a big waterfall but a decent one. The boring drive route kills the fun of the park, really far from Hartford just to come to this place. Also the park entrance charges is close to 10$ which is not a good thing! We started our trip at Kent Falls State Park, arriving at 1:00pm. The park offers fishing for trout, though limited to 2 per day per person, an awesome and large picnic area, covered in snow when we were there, complete with grills, a covered bridge and an old school open bridge across the stream that has just descended the hill via the waterfall. We took the trail that was a two mile hike, up the first and second stage of the falls, not intending to finish it or even climb, as it was COOOLLLDDD and I had just had surgery on my knees, plus the ice on the trail threat. However, the trail next to the falls had hand rails, granite steps, and was constructed with people in mind, so it was an easy climb, though long and hilly, even doable wearing non-hiking shoes and cloths, as we were. Many people asked us, "Frozen Falls?" Nope. The non-active parts were frozen, the dead pools so to speak, but the falls themselves were very loud and active as this 30 second video will demonstrate. The hike was easy, even in the ice and even though the climb was high. There were guard rails and stone steps all the way up the side of the falls. Beautiful place to visit. I would consider it kid friendly, the path is well paved . Easy way to see some falls without much of a hike. Of course the easiness level will attract more crowds of people whether they are hikers or not, so I would try to go on a weekday. Even driving around the surrounding area is very pretty . Here's a tip- don't speed on the taconic state parkway lol the limit is 55 unlike most other highways in NY I feel like I'm useI am not from the area and I learned the hard way it's a popular trap for getting a ticket. First if ur not from around there the drive to the park is just sooooo boring... To top it, the parking fee is $9 (rip off)... N to add salt to the wound "the falls"....is just a trickle. Maybe wrong time to visit in July but I'm never driving back there again. As you pull up into the state park to the parking lot...it opens up to an open patch of green (accessible through a cover bridge over a brook... Very cute) and view of the waterfall also visible rt from the parking lot....There is a trail along the water which ends at a private property after 10min up. They have lots of picnic tables but it's much better to bring your own blanket and settle on the grass...they have restrooms which is the only good thing. Over all not worth an hrs drive from Hartford... Find a better spot. read more

Came here to see the falls, hike and have fun. Instead got hammered for $9 to park so instead we parked in side of road but my husband dropped off my son and I so we didn't have to walk. Then they told us that you can't drop off people to the park! Are you kidding me!!??? Next time I will go to a state park with no fees and it didn't feel awful to come here. read more

Beautiful hiking and waterfall. We saw ppl swimming, but signs say not to. The trails go on for miles, so it's not a one day event. Bring your bug spray, and your camera. This review only applies to a busy weekend, in this case 4th of July 2011. Hordes with boom boxes, partying revelers, going off the trail, swimming in the water, kinds exploring dangerously. If you go on a busy weekend expect hordes of people, chaos. Didn't feel like a park in Connecticut to me, felt like Flushing Meadows park on the weekend. I live in New York City, but I'm not wild about everyone having a boom box, and people not following the rules. Nice place for a picnic, I suppose, lost of people had the idea. I like my nature spots not so loud. And $15 out of state entry, in state $9. Beautiful falls, amazing. A path takes you up higher and high, the best isn't even what you see at the bottom. it's about half a mile hike. You could actually park your car at the top and avoid the fee, and hike down and back up instead of up and back down. read more

I went to Kent Falls and thought is was really nice. The steps going up and down the falls could be a lot better though. But you can't take away the beauty of the park. The covered bridge is s must take picture. There are nice picnic areas. It's free for one and all. Our registration taxes on the car takes care of the cost to enter the parks. read more
