It's hard to access from the old town because it's on the OTHER (eastern) side of I-405 and you need to take a fly-over. Use google maps or a GPS to find it. The park is a pretty nice neighborhood park, but that only rates it 3+ stars in my book. The 5-star aspect of this park is that it is the jumping off point for some classic, very fun and technical mountain biking. Where are the trails? You could SEE them from I-405 if you were driving south near exit 2 (although it's not convenient to access them from here) . On I-405, if you looked to your east, you would see some high-voltage electrical lines coming down the hill. The trails are on the slope in the unbuildable easement underneath and near these lines. Thank god for the powerlines or some f'ing greedy developer would have developed the crap out of this area years ago. The area might not sound very scenic -- and in a few spots it's not with powerlines crackling overhead -- but mostly it's just trees, slope, and singletrack. You can access the trails by parking at the Phillip Arnold Park parking lot. Ride south for about 1/3 mile on the access road. Look for trails to your right (west). Take any trail you might find or look for the fireroad. Back up in hyeah is the hilarity of Tapeworm, Parasite, Crop Circles and other trails. These trails are wooded, tight, twisting singletracks -- back and forth, up and down -- with obstacles like boardwalks, drops, ramps, teeter totters, fallen logs,. In spots you'll get totally wedged up by crazy and stupid lines -- drop down over a 1/2 dozen tree roots, suddenly make a tight climbing turn, go betwen two trees a handlebar's width apart and then jump over a log. In other newly developed parts (mostly to the southern end) you can find some trails with bermed turns, whoo-dee-doos, and a jump or two. Extra points if you can find "Declan's Death Ride". The whole complex is fairly rideable in winter as the area drains well, but be careful not to tear up the trails when they're wet and muddy. In the summer (especially in overgrown areas) you will want to ride with a patch kit and/or Mr. Tuffy's in your tires -- lots of blackberry thorns on the trail. These are classic east-side trails -- enjoy them safely and watch for other riders. Stop at Naan 'n Curry in downtown Renton on your way home, have some delicious curry and say "hi" to Uncle Mike. There is also a pavilion for events, which we utilized during our picnic. The park is beautiful, well-maintained, and in a tucked away spot in Renton - I had no clue this park was here. Chelsea Park was my neighborhood park growing up. I've been there probably 100+ times…read more I've played organized and recreational sports there, participated in day camp there, and did about a dozen other things there during my childhood. It's a nice neighborhood park tucked away just off Ambaum and 136th. The park is basically divided into two sections, the playground area which is on top of a little hill and the field, which is down below. The playground area was renovated within the last 10-15 years and has a nice playground and walkway area up above. I don't know if it's due to the location, off Ambaum and 136th/near the (formerly called Seahurst Village Apartments) or what, but I don't see too many kids there playing. The field down below has a small baseball/softball field that is well-kept because it's used for little league baseball/softball and Kennedy Catholics softball team as well. The field isn't by enough for high schoolers (90 ft base paths and 60 ft mound), nor can it accommodate power hitters (due to houses relatively close down the right field line and a moderately short left field. Basically, If you're looking to play baseball you're better off going to Sunset Fields or Moshier Fields - you'll have more real estate there. The open field/grassy area is though good for pickup games of football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, etc. as well as catch and just general running. Often, at night - just before sunset ("after work") you may often find members of Burien's Hispanic community playing recreational soccer there - so if you're someone who had the itch to play, and doesn't play organized soccer or can't find people to play with, then it may be worth dropping by one night to see if people are playing. All-in-all, Chelsea Park is a fairly nice neighborhood park in the Burien-area that provides a variety of different opportunities for playtime and/or rec-athletics

In the summer there are all kinds of events here, including a Sunday concert series. Great place for a picnic or to take your dog (leashed) and of course, the kids! Covid was still raging strongly and not many people were out but it was a spot of novelty as it was my first time to this neighborhood. It was in Spring I believe because blooming trees were in full affect which was interesting timing returning here again as the blooming trees were at work again in the park. The park isn't all that large and doesn't have a lot park amenities but it's a nice stroll for visitors and the residents for this mixed use business and residential area. It's a very clean looking park with no rubbish anywhere to be seen.

While the park is small, it's a great place to spend some time if you're in the area, especially in the Spring and Summer! During the hotter months there's a fountain that the kiddos like. Right away, our swimmers faced filthy bathrooms, an incredibly cold pool, a dead scoreboard, and broken diving boards. Things took a turn for the worse on the second day when the meet was abruptly canceled due to a broken pipe. For a major facility, an event cancellation like this is almost unheard of. It is sad to see such a beautiful, historically glorious venue falling into this state of disrepair. If I were a King County taxpayer, I would be furious and demanding some serious accountability.
