The front desk staff is absolutely clueless and needs to be trained better. Especially the young lady with black hair and glasses. She's absolutely terrible at her job and needs to either be fired or retrained in her position. The red haired life guard is absolutely rude. This man doesn't know how to communicate. The shallow water pool was being shut down over an hour early due to swim lessons. This man watched my family and I get in the pool, didn't tell us, then blew his whistle and started telling people the pool was closing for swim lessons in the shallow pool. No swim lessons were even held in that pool during the time my family and I were there. The facility itself is disgusting. People eat in the women's locker room. There's always blood or poop all over the bathroom stall walls. Women bring their sons who are over the age of 5 in there as well and don't control them. So you have boys watching you change, and it's disgusting. The family locker room is even more disgusting. There's always pee all over the personal bathroom/showers. There's always pee all over the toilet and the floor. People throw toilet paper and paper towels all over the place, too. Someone even left their nasty fake eye lashes in the shower. The gym is gross, too. The wipe stations would be empty and people wouldn't clean up their equipment. People would also bring their children in there with them and let their children run around and play on equipment. ZERO STARS 8/17/24 : I called in at least half a dozen times (with no answer) because I was going to be in the area and wanted to confirm I was approved to workout there and to make sure they had adaptive equipment. The female attendant that answered the phone in the morning was so rude, it actually made me check I was calling the right organization to get information I needed . I'm very disappointed in this particular "Y", and that they have people answering the phone with this poor disrespectful attitude. The Auburn Valley YMCA pool and hot tub are closed daily from 12-3 because they apparently do not have staff to run it. ‍ Some people like to use the facilities when there aren't a bunch of people there like during busy senior morning routines or screaming swim lessons in the afternoons and evenings. Social anxiety is at an all time high and some people can't be around lots of commotion especially when they are working on getting well. Grateful for the family and Special Needs dressing rooms, however they are in need of repair. Some showers don't stop running. Some towel dispensers don't work. The shower curtains are hung so high the entire bathroom floor gets wet along with your shoes waaay over there. Forget about putting pants back on and keeping them dry in the process. And you can't adjust the curtain because they've glued the rod in place. Covid seems to have hit this gym hard and they still haven't recovered. Too bad because it's really a nice Y. I take my son here for basketball practice and his listening and ball control have gotten better. The gym is a good size with several basketball hoops and the floors are pretty clean. The swim area has a slide that looks really fun to go down but I don't have a full membership, the price for family and individuals has really sky rocketed! YMCA has an extremely confusing district system that doesn't share records even between gyms 20 minutes apart. I was turned away at this gym because I'm a member in Pierce County not King County and the front desk staff refused to to call my home branch to confirm I was a member. Being confronted with suspicion rather than good customer service was an upsetting experience. I understand policy is policy but why in the world would you make it any harder for us to workout when it's becoming increasingly difficult to stay healthy. We are not members and we only come here for swim lessons, but I really like this place! The kids have been taking lessons for several years so we have had a lot of instructors. Of them all, there has only been one that I didn't like and she was removed half way through the session...I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't like her! The instructors push the kids to try new things but never force them to. The best part is that they have a variable depth pool on the side that the kids can play in after class. Since they can reach the bottom, my kids learn by playing in that pool since they aren't scared to try swimming. read more

I'm torn between giving this Y a 3 star or a 4 star because I think saying it is simply "OK" isn't fair, but saying I'm a "fan" with eagerness wouldn't be exactly true either. So, let's settle for a 3.5 star? Let me say that I like the feel of the Y. It's laid back, welcoming, and the staff is always friendly. They offer many programs for youth and adults alike, and they have a monstrous pool/mini-water park. As I said, I like the Y and it has the best of intentions. And being a student, I liked that they will give you a monthly rate according to your income. That's a nice perk that shows this place isn't wholly about profit, and they'll work with people of all incomes to be able to have a gym membership. To me, that says a lot and makes this place a good community staple to have around. Now, for my complaints, I'm a guy who lives and breathes the gym. I live for fitness and weight lifting. I just feel "alive" when I do it. It's my vice. And that's where the Y got into problems with me. The gym is adequate. They have basic equipment for weight training, and a LOT of treadmills and cardio machines. But, typically you had to wait for use of a machine or a set of dumbbells. The gym was often crowded. And towards the end of my run with the Auburn Y, equipment would break and wouldn't be fixed for (sometimes) up to a month. It is what it is. The Y strives to be a community support center for people to be active and social, and as I mentioned their income based dues are a great way to show people it's about a community. I don't have anything terrible or bad to say about the Y. I just outgrew it. I was there for the weight room and I needed something bigger, which is why I joined 24 Hour Fitness. But, for a novice or a person just looking for a place to be active, the Auburn Y is a good place to go and they have a great staff and no sharky trainers (Vision Quest, anyone?). As I said, I just outgrew the usage of their limited equipment and I was getting irritated with machines being out of commission for up to a month. read more

The pool is cool. Everything else is eh. The childcare has different hours than other locations and the people were grumps when I went in and didn't pick up one child on the dot, because I was taking my other child to the restroom, right there and they knew what was going on. I have zero tolerance for people who can't be sympathetic to mom's doing the mom life. I don't like feeling like I'm a piece of crap because I need to care for one child and I'm one minute late. I love this place, it's perfect for families, great classes and lessons for the whole family. The daycare is great they have no tv or electronics of any type. A substandard Y. Its OK if you don't mind exercising in a giant daycare. That what it is in the summer with their camp program. Unlike other Y's, there is no separate locker rooms for adults. To me their most precious commodity is the lap pool. Because of a poor design there are only 4 lanes for laps. So its hard enough to get a swim lane. But on top of that the Y schedules the whole pool for daycamp kids right over lunch time, screwing up the schedule for all Boeing employees who swim then. Even at other times of the year they rent out the pool to any group, that will pay. It bothers me because half these people aren't even members, the people who pay good money for membership are afterthoughts. Other than that, the showers suck in the winter because some genius decided to bring in outside air for ventilation. I will say the staff is friendly. . read more

Generally, I like the YMCA's programs and most of the staff are nice and helpful, but the YMCA does a bad job of communicating with their members. They could really use a better web page. It also can be very difficult at times to reach their staff when you have a question, and sometimes you have to email them several times or are sent to a voice mail that is often full. We take our child to Fairwood's before school program. Today, Aug. 30, is the first school day, and it turns out the YMCA's before school program doesn't begin its program until Sept. 5 (which makes no sense). We didn't get the memo so to speak, and now we're left scrambling for the next few days. As far as I can tell, you can't find the before school dates on the web page. Also earlier this week, I tried to drop my kid off at Bellevue for the last week of summer camp. The entire facility was closed for renovations. There wasn't any sign on the door to indicate that summer camp was still proceeding despite the construction work, also no information about the Bellevue facility closure on the web page that I could find. Frankly, in this day and age, the YMCA shouldn't be relying on word of mouth. read more

I just wanted to alert parents of young children about the camp programs they are running. We signed are 4yr old daughter up for summer camp through the Y paying $1500 for the summer the firt 3wks we were told she was adjusting well then after a group swim and my daughter came home complaining of pain to thr point she cried when using the bathroom. When i lookef at her private area i noted redness that looked like something was strapped between her legs very tightly. When i asked my daughter what happened she said that one of the camp instructors put a life jacket on to tight and when she said it hurt and wanted it off they told her to stop crying. When i gave just simple feedback on monday morning about how we could prevent this from happening in future and asked about options i received a phone call at 8pm that night from the director asking me to consider pulling my child from the camp because she is not mature enough to continue. No mention or apology for what happened to my child. I contacted a director higher than her and again brushed off and my child was taken out of program no apologies but damn if they still didnt continue to take my money! Parents beware the bigger the organization the bigger they will come at you, dismiss you and disregard you. They are free to conduct their business as usual with no remorse or concern for those they say they serve. read more

I was certainly disappointed at this YMCA location. Conflicting information from this location as I'm a member of the Pierce County GH YMCA therefore I can't attend King County Auburn YMCA. Okay so I've only been going for a few days but let me just say that right off the bat the employees were totally awesome & very polite. Then walking through the facility I noticed how clean everything was. They sure do make it easy to come back for more fun. The swimming pools especially is what I like & they are always so clean & the lifeguards are on top of things. I come home not feeling like I swam in chlorine & my hair isn't all dried out, meaning they have the water under control as well. As a female I don't expect to see preteen males in the women's locker room but they are there on a regular basis one such 12-14 yr old boy. Who'd just escorted hid 8yr old brother to the restroom on way out to pool told me "its ok I'm with my aunt" when I told him it wasn't an ok reason for being in the women's locker room. He went to his aunt who loudly stated "it's ok your 6 1/2" she limit is different between gyms one is no one under 5 another over 3yrs old in women's locker room. When I brought it to the attention of a male employee his response was I can't go in there. By that point the offending boys and aunt were in the pool area but the employees wouldn't even go talk to them "there's nothing I can do " refused to follow up also stated "well she already knows she's in the wrong because she said the kid was 6 1/2. We recently joined the Y, and love it! The Auburn Y has very friendly and helpful staff, great programs available, and is family friendly. This is very well run and always clean. The staff are excellent, knowledgeable, helpful and generally know every one by the first names. There is always a good supply of towels in two different sizes. It might not be as big as some of the more modern facilities currently being built, but that does not matter because we are not judging the facility on size.I have been a member for 9 years and so far have no complaints. The facility closes once a year to maintain the high standard they have set for this facility which is a little inconvenient. I used this time to visit some of the other YMCA facilities and I like ours best. read more

Terrible customer service! First day I came in asked to a little tour, and all I heard "you go through double door, everything is there, and lockers are on the left before that door". Today I came (2nd day) with my child for swimming class, had to ask two workers where his class is at. I do have to say they have a grate child watch system and teachers are great with kids (including swimming teacher), but I wouldn't know where kids classes are and what I need to do there if it wasn't for my friend who explained everything. Also none of the workers ever told me that Zumba and Pilates classes are included in your membership. read more

I love it here and the people treat you very friendly. They are always helpful and I think they are the best priced place too. They have a great pool, pool slide, water aerobics and a amazing work out room. They watch the kids while I work out or swim, the kid room is awesome- my son loves it there and he has been going there since he was a few months old, everyone knows his name and says hi to him, me and my family by name - we feel like a community no a village and we belong there!
