We are big fans of GR Skate & Event Center! They recently redid some of the interior spaces including carpet/lights/benches... the whole vibe is so fun and bright. Our most recent experience was on a Friday night for their family deal: $12 per person includes entry, skate rental, a slice of pizza, soda and a cookie! A banging deal! The pizza is fresh and who doesn't like a chocolate chip cookie. Our kids had a blast. Lots of tumbles but they got right back up and kept skating. Also, as it turns out, roller skating is tough! Event for adults. They also offer roller blades if that's your cup of tea. I know they also take party reservations - something we've done with neighbor friends in the past during December as sort of a fun family Christmas gathering indoors when it's cold outside. We had the best time today - the kids and adults! Staff was super friendly and fun. Pizza was really good. I thought it was a great place for skaters of all levels. They have a bounce house in the middle of the rink, which my 4 year old was obsessed with. It was nice to be able to skate and keep an eye on the young ones. read more

They've made my kids' birthday parties and our schools skating parties stressfree for me. Everyone is friendly, the place is clean and I always receive a quick returned call or email when needed. There were 12 of us that went on a Saturday night as part of our Christmas together. I had purchased 2 Groupon packages that included a slice of pizza and pop per person. When we arrived, they said they were not honoring the Groupon. So I shelled out another $160+ dollars, plus money for food and games. I did get a refund from Groupon, but I partly blame the GR Skate and Event center for not putting in the fine print on Groupon that would not honor on certain days. Had I not had enough money to purchase all 12 tickets, my kids and grands would have been mighty dissapointed. Shame on you for not being upfront and honest on your groupon event tickets. I will NOT patronize this business again. Maybe you will get the hint if people stop coming....dishonesty does not get you very far in the business world these days. read more

They didn't have my kids size skates. It's a skating rink and we came when they opened. They gave them sizes 1.5 too big and small, and handed one of my kids a pair of in-line skates where the front wheel was nearly falling off it was so loose. The lunch we were promised? They are OUT of hot dogs. They've been open for 60 minutes today. How are you out? They'll cook us a pizza, but it will take 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the 12 kids are waiting at the table for their lunch. What can be done? Absolutely nothing. Could we buy some nachos for them while they wait? Oh, sure! However, the nacho cheese sauce isn't hot enough yet. Huh. So there's nothing to appease the 12 hungry children? They can skate. But not eat any of the food we paid for. We will not return. I would never recommend coming here. We were given the owners phone number, but no one offered to get them on the phone or to fix this in any way. read more

We recently had my daughters birthday party here. I had never been so didn't know what to expect. I booked my party online. We had some confusion on payment for our guests, but once inside, the facility was very clean, welcoming with fun music, our reserved table was set up beyond expectation and the kids had a blast. The food was good (the pizza was phenomenal), the staff was very friendly & very accommodating and the rink had enough walkers for our skaters. I would definitely book with GR Skate again. read more

So-so as far as skating rinks are concerned. The sound system is pretty poor, but the music selection was good and current. Affordable pricing for most days on their schedule. The rink set-up is a little weird and the floor desperately needs to be filled and recoated. An employee advised us to avoid Saturdays because they are crazy and busy, afternoon and evening. We thought the weekday crowd was just fine, enough skaters to do games and races, but not so many as to crowd the rink. Not the best skating rink I've been to, but passable. The building is somewhat run-down and the rink is in need of some repair, but it works for the little ones. The prices are moderate, but there are a few other options for the non-skaters and those taking a break, such as coin-op games, ski ball and a bounce house. The food/snack options are pretty much all overpriced junk food, so I'd recommend planning to eat either before or after you go. I was about to give this place 2 stars, but my kids had a great time and asked to come back again sometime, so I guess that's worth an extra star. read more

We had a great time with the kids. The music was fun and up beat. They had fun activities planned for the kids. I appreciated the referee rolling around and monitoring the kids too. We had a kid lose his roller skates and when I asked for help, the guy on the rink jumped in to action and got new roller skates for my son. The food was a bit pricey, $3 for a pop was a bit high. As was the food. And they were out of some stuff, like cheese and fries. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

This rink has so much potential! Nice wood floor, decent size and the building overall is aesthetically pleasing. But, it is horribly managed. Regardless the session, staff are rude to customers and treat them as if it is a burden to serve them. The rink is inconsistent in their rules and enforce different rules based on a "feeling" or whoever is running the rink that day. There is a not a genuine sense of community at this place and it feels as though the employees generally dislike their customers. As of late, the rink has struggled to keep DJ's - regardless of the session. They play from a playlist that is dated and the music is often turned down so low you can hear conversations from across the rink. For people that really enjoy skating and have witnessed the greatness that was funspot or skate center, it's disheartening. Everyone should know what is happening, or not happening, at this rink in order to fully know what you're signing up for before you hand over your hard earned money. read more

So, I'll admit that (as a product of the 80's), I tend to associate a certain..."seediness" to roller rinks. But, as a dad of a 7 year old daughter, I have to admit that I was really delighted with the Kentwood Fun Spot for my little girl and her two friends (girls aged 9 and 11), whom my wife and I brought for a night out during Christmas break. We attended during the family/kids' skating session that concluded at 7pm (a great idea to set aside family-dedicated hours). The atmosphere was very family-friendly (accent on "very"); lots of attentive/good natured adults having a really nice time with an equally enthused bunch of kids ranging from 4-14 I'd guess. My daughter, who was excited to try out her just-received first pair of Christmas roller skates had a delightful (and safe) experience. Perhaps most impressive was the "DJ" Victor (I'm guessing he may actually be the owner, or a senior manager--and if he's not, he should be) who really made a great effort to be accommodating, entertaining and engaging with all in attendance; really, a great host! We left feeling that we had experienced an ideal, wholesome afternoon/evening outing with our little girl and her best friends. So, the place may be a bit rough around the edges, but to our daughter, it could not have been more enjoyable. I like the place. read more

It wasn't what it used to be. I used to go here back in grade school and it was great. That changed this past weekend as I took my siblings there to enjoy the night. Instead, we were given dirty looks since we arrived. The price is expensive and skate rental was a joke. They don't have anything bigger than a size 7 in blades.. We asked for a refund and the lady in charge, after consulting with the nice manager, decided to issue the refunds for one since he didn't skate. read more

My 13yr old daughter and I love to skate here almost every Saturday afternoon. Good music selection with a live DJ, not some canned loop like another area rink. This is one of only 2 wood floor rinks left in the GR area, everyone else has gone to coated cement. Most of the other skaters here, are quite friendly. I've had several of the teens, whom I had not previously spoken to, come up to me to give me their condolences after I fell and broke my arm during a skating session. read more

I am not happy with this place. I bought a Groupon for this place for my daughter and her friend. I dropped them off at the door with the voucher that included entry and a meal. I picked my daughter up before 6 since they kick kids out at 6pm who came in w/these coupons. When I mean kicked out I mean they have to stand outside the building. They change the small print so learned that the hard way last time. When they got in the car they explained that the cashier said they needed to pay more money just to get inside. Plus there is no meal. They also kept the coupon. So I am bothered because if they wouldn't accept the coupon then why take the coupon from the girls. My daughter is 12. Very upset with this place and made complaints to Groupon in regards to Fun Spot not honoring their vouchers. I will never buy multiple deals because finding out the small print is not so up to date when using the first one. In the end this place I see wants to make money off children but when it is time or they can't make anymore off them they will kick kids out. I would NOT recommend this place and will rethink our end of the school year party to be else where. read more

For a supposed "Family Fun Spot" the service is extremely rude. From the front cashier to the skate rental person. The place is good to skate thankfully my daughter was so excited she didn't notice. I thought maybe the cashier may have just been having a bad day, but like I said the experience continued throughout the visit. Must be the culture of the owners that reflects through the employees. To bad. They would not even honor their coupons and offered no apologizes for the confusion. I will definitely try Woodland Skating next time. read more

This is our go to spot. It has a nice wood floor that they keep up pretty well. It's an old building but who cares. I don't think places like this make that much money so they are doing the best they can. BUT the crowd you serve is mostly Black people, why then not add some Black princess to your birthday characters? Also, the skate shop, there is nothing in Grand Rapids as far as skates. I think you should really step up and do a serious shop. I dont want to wait 10 days for skates, i want a knowledgeable person that can recommend and fit me with the right style skate. I want a place that lets me try a pair of skates before I buy...huge difference than rentals. I want to have them serviced there too. One last think..you PA system sucks real bad. You cannot understand anything the DJ is saying so making announcements is just noise..birthday shoutouts just louder noise...when you play games, have a referee on the floor. Oh and don't line people up against the wall like criminals while u check their wrist....seriously find a better way. Oh and the bathrooms they gotta get updated with DOORS..my goodness its teenagers! read more
