The place was clean, convenient and the food at the bar downstairs was OUTSTANDING! The town doesn't have much going on after 6. Most of the shops close and there are only a few restaurants. It's a beautiful location. read more

The view off of the upper balcony, looking towards Ballycarbery Castle across the canal as the fog rolls in off the ocean, is amazing. On my first stay, we came in very late at night after a long day of exploring, it was pouring rain, and we were very very tired. The nice elderly couple (Owners) took us in and made sure we had everything we needed. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the hospitality was very nice! Across the street from Sive is a little gas station that has a wide variety of snacks and food such as freshly made pizzas and sandwiches. There are also many ancient Ring Forts in the area to explore, along with many other historical structures. I definitely recommend Sive Hostel for a good nights rest during your adventures!

They have 3 pools, a nice spa with free steam rooms and gym, ocean access (though bring a wet suit!), and two restaurants. I thought service was excellent, and the food in the restaurants was very good. They have a family room (king plus two twins) which was very reasonable and a great option for families. There's lots to do- a game room, tennis courts, walking trails, murder mystery, etc. We really enjoyed our stay, and it was the kid's favorite place in Ireland. Be aware though that the resort is historic, which some would perceive as dated. It's also off the beaten path, with most other dining options some drive away so plan on eating at the hotel a lot. My only other gripe would be that you have to make reservations for the pool, which is kind of a hassle.

This was a great place to stop for a snack along the Ring of Kerry…read more They had tasty warm soup, which was great since the day was a little cool. It is interesting to note that in pretty much all of the region they purée their soups. So the soup of the day was vegetable and we thought it would have big chunks of veggies, but it was completely puréed. I also ordered soup in another restaurant, a potato leek soup and it was also puréed. Thinking I'd get to eat some yummy chunks of potatoes in Ireland In the soup I ordered it but no chunks. I even asked the waiter and he said it was pretty standard for the region to purée all of their soups. The service was fair but good for Ireland. Just know that servers generally don't get very big tips so the service is not as quick as you expect in American restaurants. If you need something, do not wait for them to continue to stop by your table, just flag them down or go directly to them for help. The menu is pretty limited but it was great for road food and a decent price as well. It was brightly lit and easy to park right in front so a good stopping place along your journey. There may be a better restaurants along the way but it was dark by the time we hit this one and it was a welcome treat.

We went in April and were rather put off by the overwhelming smell of the neighboring fishery. It is powerful and sure lets you know you're back at the hote driveway!
