I've been seeing Dr. Laursen since 2013, the one star rating is because she works for the Methodist Hospital System. My insurance changed in January 2019 and Methodist does not accept my insurance. I wasn't concerned because I thought, I'll just pay cash when I need to see her. I need a surgery clearance and made my appointment. When I got there, they wanted my insurance card. I told them that they don't take my insurance, I'll pay cash. They told me that I could not be seen. They claimed it was a legal issue. I doubt this as I think it's an agreement between Methodist and their insurance providers. Had I said that I had no insurance and would pay cash, I would have been seen. So, my doctor for the last five years, cannot see me. This is total BS and I will never go to a Methodist hospital or their affiliated doctors again. read more

Like my hair stylist, I refuse to go to any other doctor in town. I've been going to her for at least 5 years. Also like my hair stylist, I recommend Dr. Laursen to all my friends. Dr. Laursen is very sweet, very professional and makes you feel very comfortable especially when you want to discuss things that you wouldn't even share with your own mother. Rather than literally writing me off with a prescription to send me my way, she will thoroughly explain my diagnosis and treatment. And when some health issues extend beyond a PCP's care, I trust her list of recommended specialists - which have all been equally positive experiences. Her all-female staff are so wonderfully personable, pleasant and always cheerful. Always. I've NEVER had to wait more than 10 minutes and they've always been able to squeeze me in at the very last minute. Just keep note that they're only open on the mornings on Friday. I also go here for my annual women's wellness exam rather than a gynecologist (usually free with insurance). Whether it's a bad cold or my private bits, I always trust Dr. Laursen's professional medical opinion. read more

Dr. Laursen is an excellent doctor and has a wonderful rapport with patients - she is thorough and not rushed in appointments, takes time to explain your diagnosis and treats her patients well! In addition, in the 5 years I have seen her, I have never waited longer than 30 minutes for an appointment. I researched some doctors because I was tired of feeling like a number/chart at Kelsey Seybold. I found Dr. Lauren and thought I'd give it a try. My main concern was that I hadn't been on my thyroid medication. I wanted to explore more natural/effective ways to treat my thyroid because I felt like my current medication wasn't cutting it. The first thing I felt coming to this office was rushed. I get stressed out when I'm rushed and here I am for my second appointment feeling rushed again. I won't be back. She referred me to all the doctors I should've gone to in the first place to treat my thyroid, and her referrals were just as bad. I told her "I want to treat the problem, not the symptoms" but when I left with no answers and the same scrpt, I felt uneasy. I called back to tell her I wanted to change from Synthroid to Armour Thyroid and she shut me down. She said "go see an endocrinologist" with no real explanation. I had already made a well woman exam and just came to avoid getting charged for not showing, but I won't be back. It's too stressful to deal with and what I came for was answers not to be a chart again. So this visit, the "Dr." Comes in and I explain to her how I felt the explanation I was given last time was not very good and scared me. Right off the bat she says, "do you want to continue to be a patient at this office or would you like to be seen by another doctor?" Very snooty. I couldn't believe a "professional" would make it sound like "you either like it, or leave". What a way to treat people! She has some major mental issues. I left mid appointment. I wouldn't stand to be talked to like that by anyone, owner of practice or not. DO NOT COME HERE !!! read more

I was unhappy with her bed side manner. No in office lab and really a wasted visit for me I left with 3 sheets of doctors who I should have seen instead of her. Her waiting room was completely empty. She seem more concerned about her weight loss services she offers instead of my health concerns. I politely declined her weight loss services. I am fat I get it but that was not the nature of my visit. So now I wait at home for my paperwork for the lab to arrive via snail mail before I can visit a lab? Are you kidding me? Dr. Larson is absolutely wonderful. I'm never waiting in the office ( I don't know how she does it!) She provides stellar care and I know she listens to me. I'm a good judge of family physicians because I am one. Dr. Larson's decision making is spot on because I would make the same choices, too. I'm very pleased that I found her. read more

I called to ask how much it would be for an office visit. There was a lot of automated nonsense before I was transferred to a scheduling center. She told me she would be unable to answer that question, she'd need to transfer me to the clinic of the doctor I wish to see. I told her Dr.Laursen and after making me hold she told me that Dr. Laursen was no longer accepting new patients. I've been seeing Dr. Laursen since around 2005. She has been an excellent doctor. Her staff is friendly and helpful, it's very easy making appointments and there is never more than a 10 minute wait. I've had a few issues that required a specialist and she was very helpful in providing the best possible one. I've never had any problems. I would highly recommend her. In fact, I have. To friends and my own son. They have all been very happy with her as well. read more

Dr. Laursen is great. I see her annually for my well woman exam, but also usually a few times throughout the year for various illnesses/ailments. I never have to wait for very long and Dr. Laursen is always kind and thorough. I tried a few different PCPs over the years but I think she's the only one that's read through my entire file. Her office staff also handles logistics (appointment scheduling, communicating test results, etc.) impeccably. read more

I can't believe there are any negative reviews of Dr. Laursen. I love that I wait less than 15 minutes to be seen by her, she doesn't overbook, which is awesome. I never, ever have felt rushed in her office. She always takes plenty of time with me and makes sure all my questions are answered before I leave. I really, REALLY, wanted to like Dr. Laursen after I read her reviews on Yelp and I actually do like some things about the process of seeing her (easy to get in and see her, friendly staff, clean waiting room and offices), however, the most important thing (in my opinion) for a doctor to provide is patient care, and, unfortunately, that is lacking by Dr. Laursen. The first visit was good - I have been having trouble with weight loss despite what she described as good nutrition (high protein, low carb, tracking what I eat, etc.) and regular workouts. She said she would run a full blood panel and see if we could figure out what was going on. I appreciated that - and in order to give her a more complete picture, I had my other tests results for the past year sent to her office. I had to get a blood panel at Quest, but no big deal, not every doctor has lab services in the same building. She also explained to me that for a fee of $125 (that wasn't covered by insurance), I could take a test that would measure my metabolism/BMR. I had been calculating it at 1400 but thought it was a little high given my trouble losing weight, so I agreed. Two weeks later, I was optimistic. I felt like I had a doctor who "got" it and was really going to help me. I went it, took the test for my BMR (the machine had some trouble, but the staff was super nice about it...). After the results came in, Dr. Laursen came in, told me that my blood work was normal but my metabolism was very low. I asked what can be done about it and she said "It's genetic so very little." Very discouraging - I asked can I see a nutritionist? She said "Sure, but I don't have any recommendations." She's a weight loss doctor, shouldn't she have at least ONE recommendation? She told me to increase my B-12 which was on the low end, but not that low and see if that helped with my energy level. I had mentioned that while I was tired, I didn't feel any more tired than anyone else who works a full day, and works out. I asked if she saw any differences from my blood work results from the past year and she said she had just received them (highly unlikely since my prior doctors confirmed that they sent my records over within two days). She hadn't bothered to look at my previous records to get a more complete picture. When I asked her again if there was ANYTHING I could do, she recommended I eat 1000 calories per day and said since it was genetic there was nothing else that could be done (how could she confirm that? she doesn't know if my parents have a low metabolism, she never asked about that). 1000 calories! As if my metabolism wasn't slow enough. The paperwork she gave me contained the most basic information one would find on any website about losing weight (i.e., eat less calories than you burn) - nothing you would expect from someone who was board certified in weight loss. I got visibly upset and started tearing up - her response? "Ok, well come out of the room when you are ready to pay." No comfort, no understanding, HORRIBLE bedside manner. Then, today, I called to ask her a follow up question about the B12 recommendation. Her staff told me she was in with patients (completely understandable). However, when I asked if she could call me back when she had a free moment, her staff said she sees patients, completes charts and then leaves. She couldn't even make a 2 minute phone call to answer a question which would clarify her own recommendations? Absolutely ridiculous. As I said, I wanted to like her and I understand that there is no silver bullet to weight loss but for her to be so dismissive was incredibly unpleasant and disappointing. read more

I've had terrible experiences with this doctor in the past. Her nurses are unprofessional; on multiple occasions they have been unable to answer simple questions about my health. Her bedside manner is always hurried and distracted. The most I've ever spent with her is 10 minutes. My most recent wait time to be seen was over an hour with most of the time being spent in a small exam room, and she only spent a few minutes discussing my health concerns. Furthermore, the office does not have the capability to do simple healthcare tasks like taking blood, and you have to be spent to a lab, sometimes across town. Any time I have had a condition even mildly serious, Dr. Laursen has been unable to speak to the condition with any authority and has referred me to a specialist; seeing her is often a needless step. What's more, the office is closed on Friday afternoons and often for over an hour during lunch every day. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Laursen at her practice in Sienna Plantation, which is associated with Houston Methodist Primary Care associates. Although generally Dr. Laursen is pleasant, there seems to be a lack of depth and knowledge regarding specific patient needs. Additionally and quite significantly, the rest of the staff at this practice are the worst I have ever encountered. For example, on at least three occasions the practice staff were unable to fill a prescription and it took several calls from the pharmacy for the refill to occur. Also, the staff are not helpful and will make every effort to turn you away and discourage you from trying to see the physicians except if you have a routine appointment. This results in being forced to go to an urgent care center when you are sick and then being scheduled to come back after the urgent care center sees you and hopefully correctly diagnoses you even though they don't have your complete medical record.. Finally, their implementation of a new EMR has been abysmal -- I had three records in their "new" system (and I am only one person!). During a routine visit after being her patient for three years, I was required to do a new patient intake, despite explaining that I had done so before. This calls into question the accuracy of their records. Stay away from this practice and seek out one with a more professional, empathetic, and courteous staff and a more engaged and aware physician. At this point, I am not even comfortable that my current medical condition has been correctly and thoroughly evaluated. read more
