My visit to the area was unfortunately soured by a deeply unprofessional encounter with the parking attendant at Kestrel Vintners. I was drawn in by the "$20 all day parking" sign and, as a tourist unfamiliar with the layout, I attempted to pull over for a moment to check my map and confirm my plans before committing to the spot. Before I could even stop, the attendant intercepted me. I explained I just needed a moment to get my bearings, and his response was to tell me, "You don't know what you are doing," in a very condescending tone. He then refused to let me park and waved me away. I was planning to park for the day and was also considering visiting the winery itself, but based on this employee's rudeness, I took my business elsewhere. It's a shame that one staff member's poor attitude can create such a negative impression and directly turn away potential customers. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. read more

We came here for the $20/day parking. We decided to stay for the wine tasting before experiencing Leavenworth for the first time. 10/10 experience!! The owner is the absolute kindest, warm, and inviting person. Lots of knowledge about what we were drinking and the process about the vineyard back in Italy. They had a couple of red slushies and a Gewürztraminer. The server recommended a slushie swirl - GREAT IDEA! Um, they had me at wine slushy! My BFF always talks about wanting to try one so when we surprised her with a Leavenworth Bachelorette party, she insisted that we had to try one. When we walked it, we were immediately greeted by a host who was very knowledgeable of the wines available. Honestly, all we really cared about was the wine slushie so we just cut to the chase. There are three different options: red, white or a swirl of the two. The girls and I each got a small of the swirl and it was the perfect thing to drink on a sunny afternoon. I enjoyed it so much that I kept giving myself brain freeze. Annoying but whatever. After we finished our slushies, we realized they also offer food. The new tasting room is amazing and the gentleman that was serving us was very welcoming and friendly and he is so well knowledgeable about the wines and wine styles. I had a Cabernet Sauvignon and was the best I tested in the while, then the gentleman challenged us to try the Super Yakima, which is the one from reserve collection and we had to take couple of bottles home with us. I was very disappointed in this place because I love Kestrel wine. We popped into and because we had kids with us to make it easy bypassed a tasting and went straight to a bottle to share. I was told on more then one occasion to not let my kids "run" around, which they were not and when one had fallen to the ground for a minute the lady behind the bar walked by, looked at us and rudely said "really" and threw her hands in the air. If you are not okay with having kids at your establishment then make it 21 and over. Overall poor experience other then the wine was good. If you have kids even if they are well behaved walk right on pass this place to somewhere more friendly. read more

We were walking through town and since there were so many tastings we decided to go to the next one we saw. The interior of this place is really cute! They have a rounded bar and some seating near the front. There was 7 of us so they placed us in the back room at a beautiful table that had a pretty wine wall. We loved how it looked and thought it was so fun to have our own little area. Our server was very awkward. He didn't tell us much about the wines, he was VERY inconstant in the pours - some of us would get a lot, some would get almost none - and the timing of everything was just weird. Right from when we were seated everything just felt very off. We enjoyed most of the wine and actually ended up purchasing a bottle but the environment was just weird. There were people walking through quickly to the back area through the room we were in, there wasn't any music back there and the tasting experience itself was just odd. That being said its $10 and that money can go towards a bottle so that was nice! With so many others in the area though we don't think we'll be making a trip back there. A friend and I had a great last-minute trip over to Leavenworth for the night, last Wednesday, 2/4/15. After walking and shopping all through the village, it was time to get a glass of wine. We decided to stop into Kestrel, shortly after 5:00 and we met Brian, he ran the wine shop. We tried a few samples of wine, then had a few glasses and we left with a bottle each. I purchased the 2010 Merlot. It was such a great time learning about the different wines and getting to know Brian, almost missed our 7:30 dinner reservations. We were in very good company, he was professional and extremely knowledgeable. I'm not a wine connoisseur, but I give five stars to this winery, and especially to Brian who took the extra time to explain the differences in what we were tasting. We will definitely be back for more wine and tasting again at Kestrel! read more

Ah yes, what a refreshing sight when those working a local tasting room don't look over at me and pass me off as just another young whippernsapper. We were both greeted with a warm hello from the tasting room hostess, and immediately treated to some tasty wines. I will say, that stopping by moments away from closing time usually draws a sigh of distaste from most individuals - but that was not the case here. I enjoyed each wine that was poured, sticking to mostly the whites - as I have a bit of an affinity towards those. Though giving the Lady in Red a try was a great idea, being a red I actually enjoyed. (A rare occurrence.) The shining star was a hard fought title that I would give to the voignier. Great, clean finish with an ever-present floral aroma. Only could imagine how great it would be with a fantastic dinner. We took a bottle of the pure platinum - chilled - back with us to the hotel room, and it served as a great pre-sleep drink. read more

This was a fun tasting room. Busy. It seems there is something for everyone except nothing for me. The one cool thing was they have a wine granita machine. Unfortunately, due to WA State Law you can't walk and drink the slushy wine on a hot summer day so you basically order it, sit there and people watch out the window. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the gentleman was who served us during our wine tasting, but he loved to chat and at the same time, gave us our alone time to chat as well. Nowadays some wineries use the "stopper" gadgets to pour a certain amount (which this winery does use), but more than half the time he poured us more than the amount the gadget stopped to, which was awesome! There are 2 different wine tasting menus to choose from, which now i regret not trying both. In the end, we ended up buying 2 bottles (when I thought we wouldn't buy any since we already bought bottles from other wine tastings) and are very happy with the bottles we bought! read more

Have you ever heard of a wine slushy? Me neither until my visit to Kestrel... I had been here before and didn't have a great experience... they were a tad snotty to my then 21 year old self. Fast forward 5 years and things were much different... different people? The fact I was older? Who knows. The wine hasn't changed much since the last time I was there - they are known for their Lady in Red and their White blend. Their voignier. is also delicious. They do make some very tasty desert wines (I recommend the late harvest Merlot.) The lady that helped us was knowledgeable and funny - and it doesn't cost to taste. The best part of the tasting? The wine frappe - a delicious frozen wine beverage. They make it in red and white... my girlfriend and I both had the red... and let me tell you, we ordered a full glass to sit down with and enjoyed it along with people watching through the windows! read more

I have been here twice and I am always impressed by their friendly, knowledgeable staff. Sometimes when you wine taste it's a pretty blah experience, but these guys do a great job. Found some wines we liked and others we didn't but still enjoyed the time here for the most part. Our disappointment came in the attention provided after the pour. We are interested in learning about each winery and wine to determine whether we would recommend to our friends, or even become a member. The servers were very inconsistent in paying attention as they seemed to be in decorator mode and discussed all the new wall decor that recently was installed. Too bad. We went to Kestrel Wineries in Prosser, WA last April during the Yakima Wine Tasting Festival and I fell in love with their 2010 Pinot Gris. About two hours ago I was in the Yoke's Supermarket in Mead, WA and found two bottles of Kestrel's Lady in White and bought one, brought it home, opened it a few minutes to let it breathe, and then had a sample. Once again, Kestrel hasn't failed us and I have another favorite wine to sip on. Can't wait until dinnertime when we have some with the poached salmon, rice, and fingerling zucchini/mushrooms dish I'm fixing. Also, we found Kestrel's staff was very knowledgeable, polite, and able to immediately answer any questions we had about their products. We certainly hope they're participating in this year's Yakima Valley Wine Festival! read more

My wife and I loved this place. They made the experience very pleasant. We did some wine tasting and then purchased a bottle of wine and a cheese tray to enjoy. They cleared a spot for us to set up near the window at the entrance which was great so that we could people watch at the same time. After we were done we purchased a case of wine that was a fantastic deal they had going on to take back home. We saved about 20% on the case compared to buying it at our local grocery store.
