I have been coming to Sweet Culture for many years. It's my go to place for traditional Chinese…read moredesserts and savoury snacks. The place has an oriental feel with wooden tables and chairs. Nothing that is too comfortable but good for a quick snack or when craving something chinese and sweet. Big tables for a group or with a few friends. The service is fast and friendly. You will hear mostly the Chinese language around you so the experience is immersive like being back in Hong Kong culture. We had the traditional double skin steamed egg with milk. This was so comforting to eat and not too sweet. The black sesame paste soup is very smooth and yummy, it's my favourite dessert. We also had some snacks like steamed rice rolls with sweet soya sauce, peanut sauce and sesame sprinkles. Yummy! Finally our favourite dessert... Crispy milk fried and you can dip it in caster sugar. This place has reasonable prices and it is as traditional as it is Chinese. If you haven't tried Chinese desserts you are missing out. What you find at Sweet Culture is the traditional, authentic desserts and nothing fancy at a reasonable price. Just bring cash otherwise pay upcharge for credit card payment.

I looked at the menu and thought I was transported to the late 90's, and the other thing is the feel of this place, true Cantonese desserts, I saw the savoury snacks they had, but I only wanted sweets, and this place delivers. I had their black sesame tong yuen in ginger soup, and this, to say the least, a sweet way to end the night. Being in this OG place having Cantonese songs playing in the background, a few tables of people poking at their phones, some people coming in to pick up take out, and friendly staff which seems to know the returnee customers that come through the door. If you need a place where you want either Cantonese sweets, or savoury's, a place to just sit there and not be disturbed, or really a place to bring friends and chat, where you can actually hear eachother and have something good to eat, come here. I wish we had a place like this in Vancouver.

Tucked inside Markham 朗豪坊, X Cafe is a takeout-only spot that keeps things simple but does them right. They have a solid selection of ready-made small cakes for quick pickups, and you can also pre-order custom cakes in your preferred flavors and sizes. Prices are very reasonable, especially given how fresh everything tastes. It's nothing over-the-top or flashy just genuinely satisfying when you're craving dessert. What impressed me most was how well-balanced the flavors were. Nothing overly sweet or heavy. I usually prefer sponge cakes over mousse, and theirs really delivered soft, airy, and perfectly moist with just the right hint of sweetness. A lovely go-to for cake lovers, and definitely a spot worth supporting if you appreciate thoughtfully made, no-fuss desserts from a local small business

Mango Red Rice Bento - A decent sized cake probably for 2 people. I'd say its a 6 in x 6 in cake. The sponge layers were moist and cream layers light. Mango and Red Rice combo was interesting, but felt a bit unbalanced. Red rice gave good texture but contributed little to flavour, hence the flavour from the cake was one dimensional. Nice to try. Salted Caramel, Mochi and Walnut Bento - The many different ingredients contributed to the complexity of the cake. There was the texture from the mochi and walnut, flavours from salted caramel and nuts. Would get again. Also got to try a slice of their millie crepe. Crepes were sweet and soft but again not too complex, would not get again. But also I don't value mille crepe cakes. Would come back for the bentos, its a nice to share would 2-4 people!

A family was waiting for their order. So I placed an order order for egg waffles took about 10ish minutes that's fair. I heard about this place for. IG however I don't see the hype. I do understand very hard working couple in the back very polite and kind. I ordered sesame bubble waffle and matcha wanted to try. Total should have been 9$ however they charged me $10 not a big deal their tip or tax or maybe they didn't have change in cash. Black Sesame one came out crispy, matcha flavor wise wasn't too memorable. My friend wanted to order ice cream the lychee and ube was out. Settled for mango. They took time to decorate the ice cream apparently made in house. 3.98$ plus tax for 1 scoop. Price was decent they had some other deals such as original bubble waffle 1 for $4 or 2 for 6$. Special drink items 1$. For cheap eats in the area it's good. Nothing overly memorable. Hard working family appreciate the hustle.

I usually come here whenever I'm in the area and craving for original egg waffles. Their egg waffles are always freshly made and its crispy, it's legit bomb! My kids love them and so do I. The owners are super nice and sweet. When they see my kids, they would offer them a little treat like candy or freezies. They offer a variety of drinks and desserts. Ice cream is offered in many different flavors. Original egg waffles are 2 for $5 which is the cheapest I've come across, no where else beats this price. I keep coming back here because of their great service and the prices are really good. If you're craving for some dessert or even a drink I would highly recommend this place. So far they are closed on Tuesdays and sometimes they are closed for a period of time due to vacations.

2026 Birthday Series -- Stop #1: Meet Fresh…read more I'm kicking off a series reviewing all the places I visited to redeem my birthday goodies in July 2026. Along with an overall rating, each spot gets scored on redeemability (how easy it is to claim) and actual value. Redeemability: 3/5 (requires app download and sign-up, kinda convoluted) Actual value: 2.5/5 (50% off a regular dessert) Though the birthday reward itself was pretty mid, Meet Fresh has been my family's favorite since the late 2000s in Taiwan -- especially my mom's. Honestly, I get it completely. A bowl of freshly shaved ice topped with condensed milk, brown sugar, taro tapioca balls, Japanese custard pudding, freshly cooked taro, red beans, and Job's tears etc -- it's an experience you just can't get from HK dessert shops or Korean bingsu spots. Overall 5/5 because it's a genuine family favorite we return to every month or two. It was a huge loss when the North York location closed permanently.
