An avid bowler, who calls Paddock Bowl my home...for bowling, I've always come across KeunJib, even though I had never actually eaten there myself. As it's attached to Paddock Bowl, and typically, bowling alley food have generally been, well, bowling alley food, it was never something that appealed to me. The inside was never much to look at, with limited seating, and the backdoor leading directly into the bowling alley, it's exactly a place you'd come just for the atmosphere. However, the expression, looks can be deceiving comes to mind, and KeunJib certainly proves this to be true. Located across the street from a small shopping strip (where Los Panchos is located) next to California Grand Casino, it sits at the end of Paddock Bowl. The place itself has a small sign on the outside, but to be honest, it'd probably be easier to just look for Paddock Bowl to get to KeunJib, as you won't have as hard of a time seeing that huge sign. Parking is fairly ample, as it is a bowling alley, and also where the old California Grand building is located, so there should be spots regularly, except during nights when there are multiple bowling leagues going on at the same time, then it may be difficult to find a spot since even league bowlers would generally have a hard time getting a spot, or at least, one that is closer. We talked a bit about the decor. It's a bit dingy, and small. As it's clearly meant to just be a part of the bowling alley, and not a separate entity, there's about a handful of tables available, but not really made for large parties, but okay for anywhere from a party of 1-4 people. May not be great for people who are a bit claustrophobic, but should be fine for everybody else. The service here is great. The owner is very friendly, and chatty (in a good way), and always attentive when there are customers abound, even if it's those from the bowling alley. If you're here to bowl, he'll also bring the food directly to your lane for you. Good guy to talk about sports with as well, so if you're looking for a topic of conversation, there's a starter for you if you need one. There's two separate menus, the regular menu which is the typical bowling alley type food (burgers, sandwiches, fries, and so on), and then the Korean menu. While the non-Korean menu is fine for those who happen to be at the bowling alley for leagues or tournaments, but for those who are coming here for a sit down food experience, you would definitely want to go with the Korean menu. The price for both menus are reasonable. The Korean menu is about on par with all the other Korean restaurants in the area, with one caveat. There is no lunch special menu here, so it could get slightly more costly if you are just here for lunch compared to other places which do offer lunch specials. Food time! What is the signature marking of any Korean restaurant? The Banchan, and the Galbi. I am happy to report that both of these things were delicious and KeunJib. I'm actually surprised the Banchan they offered here were actually varied, but also delicious, and of course, they offer free refills which is a plus. I was a bit disappointed there was no fish cake, but the beansprout was more than enough to make up for that. I do see other people with pictures of the fish cake, so maybe I need to ask for it next time. I'm sure it's probably delicious as all the other Banchan dishes though, so I look forward to that. Let's get down to the Galbi. While the sauce they used was tasty for sure, and the portions were okay for Galbi, one thing that is important to note is how you like your Galbi. For me, I'm okay with both meatier Galbi, or fattier Galbi, so in my case I enjoyed it quite a bit since all the flavoring of it was well done. If you are someone who does not like your Galbi to be so fatty, or in general have difficulty with chewier meats, this may not be your best bet. I can definitely see people who aren't interested in chewing the fat, so to speak. Again, the flavoring was well done, and something I quite enjoyed, but may not be for everyone. Can't judge a book by its cover, looks can be deceiving, or whatever other idiom you'd like to use, this is a pretty good way to explain KeunJib. While it's not going to be a Korean restaurant that will blow you out of the water, considering where it's located, compared to the quality of the food they serve, it's certainly got a night and day thing going for them. Combine that with the friendly service, and fairly priced menu, it's not a bad place to find yourself if you want some Korean food. Just be aware that this is meant to be very casual dining experience, and to temper your expectations when it comes to the dining atmosphere. Will definitely try out some of their other items on the menu in the future, especially since I'll be there for league nights. read more

Annyeonghaseyo! If you've read any of my previous reviews, you know I have an affinity for hole in the walls. This is the epitome of that... Tucked away across the Grand Casino, and attached to the Paddock Bowl, is KeunJib Korean Restaurant. Their Korean selection is on par, with prices right on the verge of below average to average. We ordered the Dae Ji Bulgogi (spicy pork), Kim Chi fried rice, and the Chicken wings. All really exceeded my expectations. They do throw in some peppers with the Bulgogi which is something I don't prefer usually, but the flavors were still really great. The Kim Chi fried rice, with a runny fried egg on top, was delicious. Flavors were well balanced, though I may order it without the protein next time, since we had the bulgogi, but as a dish by itself it was perfect. And oh those wings. Korean's do wings right. I haven't had a bad Korean wing, and KeunJib keeps that streak going. Crispy, yet saucy... perfectly breaded... flavorful...Amazing!! I Highly recommend the chicken wings (may be extra time to cook when its busy, luckily for us it wasn't) They also have your standard bowling alley fair, which I'm sure is great, because you really can't mess up a burger, or sandwich, or fries at a bowling alley... but that's not why you come to this place. HELL, if i was drunk and bowling, some Kim Chi Jjigae would really hit the spot! Highly recommend this place, its a small joint, and while people say they had bad service, we didn't experience that. The gentlemen who served and waited on us was extraordinary. Table behind us were more than likely friends of the owner, and the food they ordered, is the stuff I want to try next time... I ate here while bowling with some friends next door. Yes, it's weird to have a KBBQ cafe next to a bowling alley. Plus it also serves burgers, fries, and sandwiches for those who want something more American. If you want to eat while you bowl, you can get it to go and they'll deliver it to your lane. Got the bulgogi plate #39 which is bulgogi beef with rice and a side of kale salad. The difference between this and the bulgogi bowl is that the bowl has stir-fried veggies instead of the kale salad. The food was surprisingly good. The rice even had a sprinkling of furikake seasoning on top for fun. Kale salad was enjoyed by both me and my friend, who didn't know what to expect of Korian food. I've been searching for a place that makes good soondae (Korean blood sausages) in the East Bay for YEARS. And this place does it! They make them in house and they're TO DIE FOR. This place is really good legit Korean food. They make dweji gukbap (pork rice soup) which I usually can't find anywhere, and they make it so well. Perfect meal for a cold day! I thought I had done a review on this place already, but meh, I guess not. But yeah, the best bowling alley Korean food ever. I been driving by the place for a couple of years now and always wonder why would anyone go to a Korean restaurant inside of a bowling alley. Now, I am proud to say, this guy!!!!! This guy goes to a Korean Restaurant inside of a bowling alley. Where else can I get a tofu soup and a cheesesteak sandwich. The service by the people working/owned the spot is great. They make sure their peeps are taken care of. I had a couple of different items from here already from the few times we been here and it's always been good. Kimchi fried rice: not too wet or spicy. I found this is probably one of my favorites here. Tofu soup with kimchi and beef: My kids always get this, it's good. It's packed to the top with tofu, beef, noodles and good stuff in general. Flavor is good. Bugogi burger: My only disappointment of all the menu items. It's more of a teriyaki beef sandwich than anything else. It's ok, nothing I would order again. Spicy chicken: It's really good, the portion size is a little smaller than the other surrounding Korean place, but.... they are also about $2-8 less than the other Korean place for the same menu item. So same same on this one. The best item on the item in my opinion: The Pork King: it's a huge serving of pork knuckle. It's sliced up like a small ham, marinated in soy and spices. Comes with servings of lettuces, raw garlic, hot bean paste, and dripping sauce. Really, it's just a serving of awesomeness. Food was delicious the review isn't reflected off taste it's a matter of morals. I ordered the Japanese steak dish and ordered extra meat. The chef and owner made it heavy with noodles... I mentioned it to him and he didn't care. 17 dollars for noodles no meat....I'm not going to be visiting this establishment in the future and I don't recommend it to you either. Spent Sun morning at the Concord flea market at the Solano Drive-in and was in the mood for Korean food for lunch. Moa and KuenJib are located only a, short drive away but Moa is closed on Sun, so KuenJib was the only choice but it turned out to be a good one. It did not bother me that it was located in a bowling alley. The restaurant is located at the far end of the building past the bar, has its own street entrance and you probably wouldn't know it was part of the bowling alley if they just closed a couple of interior doors. They serve pretty much everything you'd expect at a Korean restaurant but they don't serve bibimbap (which is a favorite of mine) nor do they serve beer (which you have to get at the bar next door). On the other hand, they serve soondae (blood sausage), pigs feet and offal dishes that are not offered elsewhere and that I didn't try today but would like to try sometime soon. Instead, my GF and I shared some bulgogi and spicy pork belly bbq, which were great. We were told that ban chan was only served w/soup & stew and bbq, which affected the choice of entrees. The ban chan we got was served in very small portions but refills are given, just as they are elsewhere. We got some traditional cabbage and turnip kimchi, some dried mini anchovies, bean sprouts, a some broccoli florets and carrot peels, pickled yellow radish and some sweetly dressed kale. The kale and dried anchovies were unusual but very tasty. All in all a very good experience and better IMO than Moa where I've eaten b4. So, if you're in the area and bibimbap isn't a must have, I think KuenJib would be an acceptable choice for a Korean meal. read more

This is *not* what I was expecting to eat at a bowling alley. This was probably the best kalbi I've had in months. It was thicker cut than I normally see at restaurants and a really generous portion for a single person (generous portions also being something I rarely see at Korean restaurants). Grilled perfectly-the thicker cut meant it could actually be cooked to medium with a nice char on the outside rather than well well well done. The marinade wasn't overly sweet, where so many go wrong these days. The sides too were tastier than most places, although the broccoli (while absolutely delicious) was a hair on the salty side. Service was attentive and very friendly. To top it off, this place is about half the price of the handful of other Korean spots I frequent. I'm pretty sure I'll never eat this well in any other bowling alley. Best in class! read more

This is a review for the Korean food at KeunJib - I'm quite sure their "American back of a bowling alley" fare is middle of the road. Anyway, the Korean food. Daaang. I would never have expected Korean food from the back of a bowling alley, that also serves nachos and fries, to be so good. We ordered what has been translated as "King Pig Feet" on the menu, and soon-dae soup. All around everything was really good and authentic. Service was also friendly. OMG , I only came here because of the Yelp Reviews & I know the best Korean Rest. around the area but I just wanna try new places. It was a huge mistake to visit this place! Parking is awful and place inside looks like a dump but how about the food? To start, the water taste like tap water from a garden hose, the condiments which is hard to screw up, well they screwed this 85%-the kimchi is tasteless and others' life-shelves has come and gone bordering on dangerous. The so called most popular soup with blood sausage and uncooked liver smell like my dog's poo! The service was brisk and the short ribs was ok up to standard. $47.00 what a waste. My husband said, the worst soup we had in our lives and these idiots didn't even apologize. Didn't want to make more issues of it, we left with a few cents for tip. Not ever coming back! read more

Food is okay but not that authentic. I'm Korean from Korea so I might get picky when it comes to Korean food. They are slightly more expensive than other Korean restaurants in that area and I've tried them at least 10 times. Food got worse and worse. Maybe if food was so amazing, I would've been okay with their crappy plates? But if you charge soup for $12-$15, make it look a little better? And the worst part is their service. The service depends on who serves you. One of the owner's sons have some mental issue(which the owner whispered to us when the son was swearing and complaining. We asked a simple request and he was very rude). He started throwing or dropping things in the kitchen so it got to the point that it wasn't safe to stay longer because I was eating with my toddler. It was scary so we didn't even finish our food. Don't go here. Or just get togo. I feel bad for the owner but at the same time, if the son can be harmful to the customers, he shouldn't work there. Even when I was paying at the counter, he was still swearing out loud and being sarcastic to me. I didn't get upset because he would do something crazy. It was THE worst experience of my life. Ever. We come and eat here often when we play bowling, just because it is convenient. The food is good and tasty and they are alot cheaper than MOA. But I still prefer going to MOA just because of bad service the guy with a funny walk has been giving us, idk what it is, if he's bipolar or it's just korean thing(he's the only rude korean i've ever met) but this guy is very very very rude, not sure if he's the owner of this place but he needs to change his attitude if he wants people to come back and have a good review of this restaurant.. I feel bad for his coworkers because the other guy server is excellent and very friendly and the lady chef is very polite.. First time here, I ordered beef bulgogi and my boyfriend and his family(who came 3x the past week) ordered the spicy octopus with noodles. I actually called in our order trough phone for a pick up. And when we got there we just decided to sit in. I forgot the dude's name, but he was working the cashier. I paid and he say us down, and came up to us saying we should've told him that we wanted to dine in because they had already wrapped everything to go.. we actually didn't mind if it was wrapped up and ready to go, we just wanted to eat inside instead. Doesn't have to be on a nice plate for us to eat it. Got my bulgogi first on a plate and they left our rice in the container. Got our noodles.. there was a long piece of hair. So we told another guy, the waiter, and he apologized for it and took it back and had them remake it. I don't even know if they actually remade it Bc it came out cold, the first one was warm. Shrimp fried rice didn't look like the photo.. It had tiny baby shrimps instead of the nice bigger ones and the entire dish was coated with some kind of sauce? Idk, it was like those microwaveable rice bowls. The jap chae was pretty bland, not much flavor.. I needed to keep eating it with some of the side dishes to give it some flavor. Kimchi fried rice didn't have much flavor either. The only thing I did enjoy a little was the spam misubi. However, the guy said they used a marinated rice, but the rice wasn't marinated whatsoever, just seasoned. And they sort of pack it with too much rice to make it look bigger. Tea was good. My friend told me about this place for pork rice soup ( Dwe Ji gook bap) and I went to try it. The soup was very tasty, seasoned well and most of all the soup had a lot of pork ingredients. Im so glad I found a tasty pork rice soup place. Many other places that Ive been to, outside of east bay didn't give enough pork ingredients in the soup but this place gave enough that I had even left over and took home and ate it for lunch next day. The lady who cooks was very nice and the guy who works there was very friendly. Im so glad that I found this place because there aren't many pork rice soup and soon dae place in east bay area. Good Korean food, probably best Kimchi I have had at any local Korean restaurant. Banchan (side dish's) were alright. My wife said their food was more from her area of SK (Pusan). She ordered stew that had tripe and liver in it, she said it was a mistake as she does not like that style. She thought it would just be meat. I ordered a burger because for months I drove by the restaurant and joked with my wife that I wanted to try the "Angus burger" that was advertised on the outside of the restaurant. It is attached to a bowling ally which is why they have burgers on the menu. I ordered the "Santa Fe" burger. Being a expert of burgers I can be a harsh critic, I compare all burgers to In-n-out and ask my self: "was this better than a under 4 dollar double double?". Of course this was not as good as a double double, but it was bad. Santa Fe would imply green roasted chilis and this burger had jalapenos. The burger was a frozen patty on a non toasted oversized store bought sesame seed bun and was far more expensive than a double double. So I give the Burger 1 star. If the owner reads this: 1/4 lb 85% beef formed in patty, salt both sides and grill. Toast a bun and wipe with roasted garlic butter, add fresh fire roasted green chilis and melt queso fresco on top. Serve and make $$. We ordered Katsu for the kids which was hand made and crisp. The sauce tasted hand made I think or at least partially, but had some odd flavor I could not put my finger on. Owners: Donkatsu sauce is: 1 large can mixed fruit, 1 whole bottle A1 and salt to taste, just blend and cook on stove, cheap and easy to make. Oh, and I know some people are cheaper to higher as cooks, but like to detriment of all other local K food you need to higher Koreans to cook Korean food, but thats another story. Overall good but there is better K food locally. Moa is overrated, K house was alright. But so far have not found our go to place. read more
