5/5 Went on a Sunday and it was somewhat busy, but we asked if we could sit at the bar and got seated and served ASAP. We started off with drinks and they were amazing. They also offer a variety of breads in their bread basket which was a nice touch and really good. The service from start to finish was excellent and the food was just as amazing. Bathrooms were clean as well, which always matters. Overall a great experience and definitely a spot we would come back to.

Always amazing here!! Perfect Memorial Day lazy lunch! Caprese martinis, the BEST beef carpaccio of my life, and this amazing new salad! The Chestnut St chopped salad (no egg)- huge bowl of chicken, cheese, greens, tomatoes, bacon, beets, and avocado with a light vinegarette! Yum!

I came on a Sunday for a late lunch with my best friend. It was busy--about a 45-50 minute wait for a table--so we opted to sit at the counter instead. I've been to the Westlake location a few times, so I found myself comparing the experience. For two people, we ordered arancini and meatballs to start, plus two side salads, fries, and two pastas: a spicy rigatoni with chicken and the marry me farfalle with chicken. Overall, the food was solid. The spicy rigatoni was a standout as always. The arancini was perfectly crisp without being oily, and I'd order it again. The meatballs were also good. The farfalle was enjoyable, though the pancetta pieces were quite large and a bit too fatty--I would've preferred them smaller and more rendered. The side salads were skippable, with basic dressing and nothing memorable. The ambiance was lively, but service felt a bit inattentive. We had to ask for menus twice, and a nearby table received bread while we didn't.

3.5 stars! Service was amazing, everyone was super friendly, charismatic, and helpful. I give them 5 stars for that The pasta and food were okay, meats like the steak and lambchops were a bit bland. Pastas were ok - but the lasagna was probably the best. Butter cake is a must! Glad to see that Walnut Creek has this option though for special occasions!

Jefferson was our servers name. He was polite, on top of everything(refilling our drinks without us asking), funny. We got the calamari and truffle fries. Both come in a large mountain order. Calamari has tartar and cocktail sauce. Very crispy. Fries had an aïoli sauce, the fries were crispy and very hot. I got the prime rib dip sandwich. Very tender prime rib, nice soft bread and it came with a side of horseradish and Ajou. Also a side of fries. This restaurant makes you feel like you're in NY. We sat outside but they had heat lamps and a fire place. Very cozy. My Wife and Daughters had a nice time. I'll be back

Decided to come here randomly on a late Saturday morning. The place was busy. Our choices were either to sit in the bar area, very close to the other people already seated or in the patio. We opted for the patio. Service was nice as expected. The place seems a little fancy. We were seated and 1 waiter brought us waters. (You have a choice of tap or bottled sparking water) I picked tap. Another waiter came by to give us menus and bread. Bread was good and the butter that came with it spread easily on the bread. (It wasn't hard, just out of the fridge) And then another waitress came to take our order. I got the cheeseburger and fries. Food came out at a decent time. It was very tasty. Our waters were constantly filled. It was warm that day and they had the ceiling fans cranked up. There was a lot of shade, but some areas had a lot of sun poking through. I'm a people watcher and noticed that a lot of their patrons order dishes to share. I'd definitely do that the next time. The waiter packed our leftovers and cleared the table. Then we waited...and waited for someone to bring us our check. It seemed to be at least 15-20 min before we got it. For some reason, we had multiple waiters waiting on our table. The next time we come, I hope to be able to sit inside. I was looking at the open kitchen and huge bar from the patio. For bdays and celebrations they bring out a slice of cake with a huge sparkler. I wanted to try the butter cake but I was too full. I didn't know what type of restaurant this was, the name makes me think of a diner/coffee house. (I didn't look them up before going, we just went) I'll definitely be back. Food was yum!

1st time here. Had lunch for our son's bday. Had a great time. Service was quick and efficient. We were waited on by Andres but there's a full team behind him making sure our plates are cleared and drinks filled. Food was great, we ordered the following: Calamari - a bit heavy on the breading but seasoned perfectly. Also tasted very fresh, almost on par with calamari you buy along Fisherman's Wharf in the city. Dungeness Cocktail - fresh but bland. Not worth it. Salmon - perfectly cooked. Seafood Fra Diavolo - surprisingly spicy! Loved it. Seafood was fresh as can be. Clams Linguine - also very fresh. Simple, clean delicious. Chicken Alfredo - I mean this is a classic dish. Our birthday boy finished his plate! Buttercake - nice that they put a sparkler for our son's bday. Very nice. Overall had a great time!

We came in as a party of 9 and ordered a variety of plates, appetizers, and desserts--unfortunately, I didn't get photos of everything, so the pictures don't do it justice! To start, the appetizers were excellent. We had the zucchini fries, crab cakes, arancini, and calamari, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and really well done. For my entrée, I ordered the prosciutto spicy vodka parmigiana with a side of spaghetti. The dish itself leaned quite salty, and the spaghetti was a bit dry and lacked that "umph" in flavor. Even the kids at our table didn't enjoy the spaghetti and meatballs and ended up switching to something else. That said, some dishes truly stood out. The braised short ribs were absolutely incredible--tender, melt-in-your-mouth, and easily a must-try. It's definitely a signature dish. My husband's veal piccata was also very well prepared and delicious. The service was spectacular from start to finish, especially given the size of our group. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Overall, it's a great spot for a date night or drinks with a nice dinner. While not every dish hit the mark, the highlights and service definitely make it worth visiting.

Friday night and it was packed! Despite how busy it was, the servers were very attentive and patient, we got our food quickly and our group was very well accommodated. The food and drinks were delicious, we ordered a bunch of items with my favorites being the esperesso martini, the giant mound of zucchini fries, and the butter cake I now have dreams about. That first bite into the cake was phenomenal, I highly highlyyyy recommend ordering it!! The bread baskets have a good variety of freshly baked breads and our food was overall really tasty. It was a great night of eating!

A great spot to add to Walnut Creek dining! The servers are very attentive. I was very surprised how good the food was. The spaghetti and meatballs and the carbonara sol we're incredibly delicious. We found the steak to be a bit tough cooked for a medium rare. I would definitely recommend booking a reservation months out ! They're are completely booked for the next few months

The restaurant itself is beautiful and the trendy bar area has a self-seating section. I've been to the other original joes location many times but have never ordered the zucchini fries. I finally tried it today and I can confidently say they are life changing. First of all the presentation, IT IS MASSIVE and heads will turn to stare at it. The three of us didn't even put a dent in it, it could easily feed a family of 5. What I love about it is that it doesn't taste or feel greasy, and the light but crunchy batter is never went soggy. It also comes with a creamy green sauce and lemon on the side. 11/10. Service was friendly but minus one star because I never got the salad i ordered.

After finally dining here, I can understand why it's so hard to get a reservation. Everything about the place is classy. The decor is very elegant, and you're treated like VIPs from the moment you enter. The food was excellent from the first bite of bread to the last cup of cappuccino. There was one tiny mishap with the salad that came with my chicken Milanese, but they took good care of me. They redid my entree and didn't charge me for it. Very classy. What we ordered: + Joe's spicy rigatoni - this was so delicious. It's creamy and a bit cheesy, with just the slightly bit of spiciness. The curved rigatoni held the sauce perfectly. + Meatballs - tender, moist, and delicious + Chicken Milanese - breaded chicken breast with an arugula salad. Nicely seasoned and delicious with a squeeze of lemon. + Bread basket (complimentary but worth a mention) - there's about 3 different types of bread, including focaccia, sour dough, and a toasted thin cracker-like bread. The butter is soft and salted. + Cappuccino - Nice! Overall, a wonderful experience, and now I want to bring everyone here.

My friend and I sat outside on a lovely spring day and we both ordered the meatball plate. It was very good and the portion was enough for a light lunch. Great atmosphere and service. Please come and create your own adventure.

Ask the Community - Original Joe's

How are the acoustics? Difficult to hear?

No, it's good acoustic for conversation even when it's crowded.

Are walk ins available on weekdays?

Yes! But there may be a good wait. The bar is always open for walk ins.

Are well behaved dogs allowed? Is there an area for them?

    Haven't seen one

How far in advance can a reservation be made?

    2 weeks

Does original Joe offer high chair for toddlers?

What I'm told they do 60% reservations online or calling in, The other 40% are walk ins you might have to wait 30-40 minutes which was the case for me however totally worth it.

Open Table shows no reservations available for lunch on any date in December. Do they take reservations for lunch? It's hard to believe that every day in December would be full.

You may walk in and sit at bar if no table is available although usually there are some waiting time to sit at table.

    Do they offer take-out orders?

Only two locations offer this https://www.originaljoes.com… Read more

Do we need reservations for the bar?

No reservation needed if you sit at the bar.

Is there a Happy Hour? There is nothing on their website. If so, what are the hours?

They do not currently have a Happy Hour.

    Is it reservations only?

They allow walk-ins, but when we were there at 5PM on a Sunday, wait time was 2 1/2 hours! And I saw on the reviews people waited up to 4 hours. Bar is open seating, but that was packed too, so I highly recommend making a reservation.

    What is the corkage fee?

    Corkage is $25 for 750ml, $50 for a magnum.

Any update on reopening date? Still 9/1/25?

Unsure but they have been keeping their website updated: https://www.originaljoes.com/walnut-creek

Do you have gluten free options? Is there a kids menu?

Yes to gluten free, no to a kids menu

    Are kids allowed?

Yes they are, but they're better left at home with a babysitter.

Can we walk in right now?

Yes. However, wait is 3 hours. If you can keep it to 2 persons and will take the counter, it can be less. Go put your name in and shop at Broadway Plaza or have a drink… Read more

    What are the dinner hours?

    It's on the website

Where's the phone number for the restaurant? I want to make a reservation over the phone, not online, and unable to locate the number. Can you please share?

Phone number is online. However they do not take reservations over the phone, it is strictly through open table

I want to call to make reservation, but cannot find the phone number? Also when I go to online to make reservations it defaults to Westlake location.

Check their website again! It's there :)

    Is it open now?

Yes, it is open as of August 14th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

Marinara was standard -potato-leek puree (4/5): came in a cute little cup to drink out of, good flavor -gamberoni (5/5): prawns were a good size and perfectly grilled. The sauce was a good addition -polette (4/5): meatballs were juicy and the pesto was flavorful and creamy. Interesting thing to have as an appetizer though -fettuccini carne (5/5): I always have an internal struggle about getting a red sauce or a cream sauce, so this was the perfect option as a creamy red sauce pasta. Serving size was good, and there was also plenty of meat and mushrooms, which I loved! Food 5/5 Service 5/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 Value 10/10 We came as a large group for NYE late seating and although it was raining cats and dogs outside, dinner was magical. This is our second year here and I was floored. I started off with a new cocktail for me the French 75 with vodka vs gin and my husband had bourbon neat. The lady bartender was so good, friendly and easily took care of our crowd with wonderful cocktails. The menu and the food quality is exceptional. Stephanie MA, was our server and she was friendly, met our table of 12 every need which is hard with a big group. The menu is pre fix and we couldn't been happier I started with grilled oysters topped with butter and caviar. My husband had focaccia topped with crap and prawns. I had seared scallops and my partner had the fig salad and a huge portion of filet mignon topped with crab and prawns. I had the seared duck breast and for desert chocolate lava cake for me and a lemon foam concoction. Each of the food offerings were plated beautifully and our group was happy with everything. We finished our meal and at midnight we had a champagne toast, a balloon drop and old school dj music encouraging all of us to join on the dance floor. Massimo's outdid themselves and I intend to come in for dinner throughout the year as we live close. It is without reservation,I encourage you to dine here. I'm definitely coming next year for NYE. Bravo!

Had an excellent meal at Massimo. The food was excellent!…read more Was a little uncomfortable when check in. The restaurant had lots of empty tables as it was around 5p Sunday. We were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. The guy says, ' no problem', then walks us through the 2/3 empty restaurant to a side room. Really didn't appreciate that, but there was a large party also sitting in the side room. The service was good, but I think our waitress may have been helping guest in the main dining room. We didn't see her nearly enough. Thankfully, the extended staff kept the water glass covered. Side note, there were a few misses between request not actually making it to the table. At the end of the day, we just reasked the busboy and continued enjoying our food. Definite communication ussues between the waitress and the bus staff. I'm pretty sure at least two of our request went to the other party. Then when paying bill, had more circle communication just trying to break a $20. We wanted to leave extra for the busboy, but he was literally scared to touch the money. ‍ At the end of the day... will try another day.... the food really was excellent.

Il Fornaio; An Authentically Italian Experience…read more On my first visit to Il Fornaio, I confirmed something I have always believed: when the cuisine is truly authentic, the real taste of Italy is immediately felt on the palate. However, a memorable dining experience is not built by the kitchen alone; it is also defined by its atmosphere, attention to detail, and above all, the human quality of its service. From the very beginning, Roberto, the restaurant's General Manager, welcomed us with warm and genuine hospitality that set the tone for the entire evening. From that moment on, every member of the team contributed to making the experience smooth, elegant, and memorable. Special recognition goes to Agustín, our server, whose service was impeccable; attentive, friendly, and always ready to guide us through the menu with knowledge and enthusiasm. The appetizers were simply outstanding: the classic Bruschetta, crispy Calamari Fritti, traditional Polpette, and a delicate Beef Carpaccio, all of which opened the palate with fresh and authentic flavors true to Italian tradition. Then came the stars of the evening: a spectacular Tomahawk Steak, perfectly prepared, accompanied by a delicious Penne al Vodka, a dish that balances richness and elegance in every bite. The experience was elevated further by a remarkable Italian wine, a Brunello di Montalcino, whose robust yet refined character created the perfect pairing with the meal. And as every great Italian meal deserves a memorable finale, the evening ended with a delicate Affogato, the perfect marriage of Italian espresso and creamy gelato. Enjoying this feast is, without a doubt, allowing the palate to travel directly to Italy... while having the privilege of experiencing it here in the United States.

I have been here twice so far. The first time we hosted a large gathering in the private room, and…read morethe entire experience was outstanding. Chef Hassan created a customized menu for our group, and every dish was beautifully prepared. I ordered the Beef Wellington, well, because there was absolutely no reason not to when that's on the menu! HA! It was incredible. The flaky dough wrapped around that filet mignon, ooh, amazing. It sat on creamy potatoes and veggies of some sort (it's been a minute, I can't recall the exact option). The private room was nicely lit, there were some candles and flowers across the table as well as wall decor. The server and busser took a little to get things rolling, but eventually things were moving along. We also had a few children in our party, and the staff was wonderful accommodating, which made the evening even more enjoyable. We were so impressed that we came back a second time - just my lady, my 6-month-old daughter, and myself - and it was on a busy Saturday night when you typically need reservations. We were lucky enough that Onur (manager) welcomed us with no hesitation and have us a little space to relax with our daughter and enjoy a wonderful dinner. We ordered the Appetizer for Two, which includes: Bruschetta, Caprese, Prosciutto Melone, & Beet Salad - a perfect amount for the two of us. Then we each got the Beef Wellington. Again, never a disappointment. YOU MUST TRY IT! To finish the night I had a latte and we shared a salted caramel gelato. Absolutely delightful. If you haven't tried La Fontaine, I highly recommend giving them a try. The weekends are busy, so if you're able to step out on a week night, do it. Ask for Onur the manager and he'll take care of you. Enjoy

It was just me 'n' Mumsy this year so I suggested we go out for Thanksgiving lunch…read more The host was so gracious and our server, Dennys, was attentive and charming! Everyone else was lovely too, TBH. The food? Oh yeah! I had the octopus appetizer from the regular menu which was melt in your mouth deliciousness with a fava (or broad bean?) base - in different circumstances, I would have wiped the plate clean with a piece of bread French country style! I had the lobster ravioli special, which was both decadent and delicate - the taste of the lobster wasn't overwhelmed by the light creamy sauce, and the pasta was the perfect bite. Mumsy had the turkey cordon bleu special which both satisfied turkey tradition without the (alleged) tryptophan coma! Too stuffed for dessert (but that's okay as we aren't really "sweet" people!). Mind you the chocolate wotnot looked very tempting... I am very thankful for everyone who worked today - it was the most relaxing Thanksgiving we've had in a long time and I am grateful that you made it possible. As Arnie says, "I'll be back!"

They forgot/lost my order so I ended up waiting a long time for it while my son and husband ate. They also brought out our entrees separately instead of one by one so that was kind of weird. They were very apologetic about my entree and did make it right so I won't fault them on that. But it just seemed a little - disorganized? My husband had to asked for my son's ice cream twice and after the first time he found the person he asked on his phone...not getting it for us. So, that wasn't a good look. Food: The garlic rolls were very good! Too much olive oil for my taste, but still very tasty. My husband wasn't a fan of his shrimp alfredo and my pizza was unimpressive. It had roasted red peppers on it that just didn't taste fresh and were very tough. The chicken also lacked flavor. Unfortunately, we don't think we will be coming back. It wasn't horrible by any means, but with all of the restaurant options in downtown Walnut Creek, I think other places are better.

Menu items are on the high side, so be prepared to shell out some dough. We had a nice waiter, pleasant, cheerful, and very accommodating. I would give the waiter a rating between 4 and 5 stars. It was near closing time when we got there, but we didn't feel rushed to order or eat our dinner so that they could clean up and close the restaurant and head on home. We started with an appetizer and garlic bread (see picture). We had about six pieces of bread and as you can see in the picture, it was on the burnt side. I cannot believe that for the price you pay for a bread, they would serve this. I also ordered a black coffee, but it tasted like it had been sitting there since the morning and tasted really nasty. I asked to have a hot tea instead. Food was good. We ordered spaghetti, carbonara, some chicken dish, and a grilled salmon. All the food tasted delicious and we cleaned out the carbonara and spaghetti. After we ate our dinner, they gave my son-in-law a slice of tiramisu with a lighted candle. Overall, it was a pleasant evening and we enjoyed our food (except for the garlic bread). I'd like to see them do me good and give me a nice garlic bread the next time I eat here.
