Kevin is the real deal, a furniture restorer, a craftsman and an artist. See BEFORE and AFTER pictures. Bottom line: I don't believe anyone else in San Diego could do what he did. DETAILS: We had a disaster with our large, built-in bathroom vanity. Shampoo had spilled and wasn't discovered for months, causing extensive damage to 5 components: a large supporting vertical piece, the supporting bottom piece running the entire width of the vanity, a cabinet door, a drawer cover, and the drawer. I called numerous woodworkers, handymen, specializing in wood, cabinet makers, and cabinet companies. Most suggested cutting out pieces, patch-ups and coverups. Those that had a well-known reputation were concerned about the vanity's structural integrity. One suggested adding another bottom support, which would have completely changed the look and feel. An extremely reputable cabinet company told us they wouldn't even try because they weren't confident that they could remove the supporting vertical piece. THEN WE FOUND KEVIN. He didn't patch it. He didn't coverup damage. He didn't change the design. He restored it. In my opinion, Kevin is a true craftsman and artist, and probably a one-and-only. He told me his grandfather taught him the trade beginning when he was a young boy. His skill, patience, and attention to detail are extraordinary. Look at the photos. They tell the story. You will see what Kevin was up against. and that he gave us back our disaster as good as when we had it custom built almost 20 years ago (and better than prior to the damage). read more

I hired Kevin to put my rolltop desk back together which he did fine. But then he noticed a spot on my desktop and said it was an ugly repair and he could make it beautiful. However it turned out even uglier in my opinion. He said if you looked at it from straight on it would not be noticeable, which is true, but from other angles it is a glaring eyesore. He did not tell me it would be beautiful only from one angle and I am very disappointed. So frankly I would not hire him for a repair. This is a reply to your offer. Thank you for your offer to redo the work, but when I expressed concerns after your initial repair, that would have been the time to discuss alternative approaches. At the time you left me with that was just the way it was because of the way light is refracted. I tried to ignore it but it leaps out at you every time you walk by. It is much worse than it was before and 4 times larger. I hired another company to come out and see what they could do. Although their repair still isn't perfect, it is significantly less noticeable. At this point, I don't feel confident that another attempt would achieve the results I would like. read more

I contacted Kevin about refinishing a coffee table made of reclaimed barn wood. He said to bring it by his shop anytime after 9 on Saturday. I showed up at 9:30 and no one was there. I called him and he had completely forgotten about me coming by and like a typical boomer, must not keep an electronic calendar. When he finally showed up we agreed that he would sand, stain, and lacquer the top to remove the damage of 8 years of usage for $400. When I went to pick it up it was apparent that he didn't sand the top at all. Surface scratches and glass marks were still there. I confronted him and he just lied to my face and said he sanded it. Look at the pictures and judge for yourself. This man is a fraud and shouldn't be trusted. I wasn't going to argue with him and then leave my expensive table in his possession, so I paid and left. I asked for my money back by text and he continued to lie to me. I would guess that he just rubbed stain on the cracks and put one layer of lacquer on it. 10 minutes of work. $400. read more

Worth the wait and the price! We had Kevin refinish two doors whose finish had been done in by about ten years of morning sun, and replace and finish the threshold for us. He's busy, so we waited several months for us to reach the head of the queue. And Kevin isn't cheap. But the result was well worth the wait and the cost. The high-level job refinishing process that Kevin does is a multi-step and time-consuming process: removing the old finish, sanding, accurately matching the color we wanted, clear coating (about 5 layers), and polishing. Not just a quick sand, stain, and varnish job. The doors look GREAT! (See Before and After photos.) We're confident they will stay looking good for a long time, especially since we'll follow Kevin's recommendation to use a UV-resistant polish on them regularly. Kevin Deal Yelp Review We had a unique kitchen project and called upon Kevin Deal based on Yelp reviews. The former homeowner had replaced the end of a kitchen cabinet with a turntable/lazy susan, cutting the countertop and shelving with a diagonal edge. The whole thing looked odd and the lazy susan was crooked and askew. Upon removal of the lazy susan, Kevin built custom shelves, painted the exact same color as the cabinetry. The flow from the original cabinetry to the new shelves is seamless. He seems to be able to envision the design in his mind, and then create and cut the wood to fit perfectly. We are thrilled with the sturdy, beautiful shelves. Kevin even routed the wood to give is a more refined and professional appearance. When we decided to buy a larger tv, we knew we had to modify our old entertainment unit into just a lower unit or credenza without the upper section. See pictures.
