Two crowns and some fillings, and my teeth are looking better than ever! It's nice to look in my mouth and see white instead of silver!

The office staff were quick to greet me upon arrival, friendly, efficient and helpful (I hadn't registered them as my dentist choice with my insurance provider). The exam was quick and stress free and the dentist explained exactly what I needed for treatment. Cleaning was pain free and after polishing and a fluoride application I was out. So glad to have made this choice for my dentist!

I had just been to my longtime dentist in may, and had had X-rays done at that time, so I knew my teeth were in good shape and I just needed cleanings. Lala insisted I get a full new X-ray panel that I had to pay $200 for. And after an hour in the chair I asked if we'd be doing the cleaning. The dentist came in and told me I had 3 cavities and deep gum pockets and ultimately wouldn't do a cleaning and gave me a referral to a periodontist. That didn't feel right so I left. After posting a review about this experience the office manager called and offered to refund the amount of the X-rays, which I would have been reimbursed through my hsa anyway, to take down my review, which I agreed to, and which is why I give the two stars. I upgraded my insurance plan to the regular ppo plan and went to Montclair dental. X-rays were covered and after about 10 minutes the dentist came in and told me my teeth and gums both looked great. They did the cleaning and told me they'd see me in 6 months. I suspect the dentists under the USA plan have to find other ways to generate income, and highly recommend paying the higher premium for legitimate dentists where you will ultimately get better care and pay less in the end.

Good after Yelp community!…read more I'm posting some of the photo proves of my story, intentionally releasing sensitive information, just to show what was done by, I'm actually having a hard time call this person a doctor, human being in the white robe with the dentist diploma. I also want to share that now Dr. Patel rejecting to accept me as a patient despite the fact she should be available for the emergency appointments and completely defensive and maybe even a little aggressive about discussing what happened. I might be wrong, but I had an impression, that in her last mail when I asked for the emergency appointment, because I'm still suffering from her "treatment" she tried to be sarcastic and even make fun out of this situation, which I think is so unprofessional and unacceptable for the doctor. Nevertheless, Dr. Patel, you asked me to avoid contacting your office unless it's emergency and I comply. Unfortunately I said nothing about Yelp, other social media, California Dental Board and Civil Court ;) You'll hear from me more and more. Stay tuned. And btw, I'm surprised that: 1. You're not afraid of Karma 2. You're not afraid of the US Law Well, don't worry I'll do my best to make your believe that both of those are working. Happy Tuesday!! Cheers :D

I vowed not to go back to them, but when I had a dental emergency arise, I called them in pain and desperation. They were now rude to me, and told me they didn't want my business because they thought I was coming back just for the pain, not to be a regular patient. That might or might not have been true; my decision about whether to return long term was going to be based on how they treated me this time. I sure learned the answer to that question. I'm not happy about having to find a new dentist on short notice while in pain, but I guess I was going to have to find a new one anyway.

Dr. Cobain is the absolute GOAT. I had gotten a crown recently (nighttime retainer no longer fit)…read moreand I went in for a consultation thinking by the end of the appointment I'd have to pay an arm and a leg for a new Invisalign retainer. However, Dr. Cobain looked at my old one and adjusted it in about 2 minutes, making sure it felt comfortable for me. Perfect. Super thankful to Dr. Cobain and Dana for their kindness and efficiency. I'll be back when I'm ready for the Invisalign! Also the interior office space is very cute, great for kids who may be hesitant about dental/ortho visits.

Summary: Dr. Cobain provided initial Invisalign treatment with multiple limitations (limitations…read morethat I later found out aren't inherent to Invisalign) and left my front teeth angled inwards. Another orthodontist later fixed the angle of my teeth and provided results I found far superior. Post-treatment, Dr. Cobain dismissed valid symptoms as stress and sensitivity, sent me back with ill-fitting retainers, and failed to identify a bite interference that another orthodontist caught. Dr. Cobain has strong online reviews and comes across as confident, which is partly why I trusted him for longer than I should have. I'm sharing my experience so that others can make an informed decision. What I mention below is documented in appointment records and emails (I've attached photos of some of these records as part of my review). The original treatment: During my initial consultation, Cobain Orthodontics gave me a form noting that my treatment would have multiple limitations including "angle" and "detailed alignment." The paperwork stated that Dr. Cobain doesn't recommend Invisalign over braces, that "if you choose to move forward with Invisalign the result will not be ideal," and that patients may require braces at additional cost to get a better result. Based on this, I believed that Invisalign would have limitations regardless of which orthodontist provided the treatment. Despite the limitations, Dr. Cobain still charged what I considered a significant amount. I was very disappointed by the result: my teeth remained uneven and looked tilted even after treatment. I later got revision treatment and had multiple consultations before choosing a provider; every single other orthodontist I spoke with told me Invisalign can fix tooth angle -- something Dr. Cobain had listed as a limitation. My new orthodontist reviewed my records & photos from Dr. Cobain and identified multiple flaws. After revised treatment, I found my smile and teeth to be much more even and streamlined (comparison photo included). Orthodontic treatment is expensive and affects bite comfort, smile, and even facial symmetry. The provider's skill makes a huge difference; since consultations are generally free, I'd encourage others to meet multiple providers before choosing one. In my case, the detailed alignment I wanted was possible with Invisalign once I switched to a different doctor. Post-treatment: After not wearing my retainers for a while, I felt pain when putting them on again. I went to Dr. Cobain a couple of times, and he attributed my concerns to stress and clenching and told me to continue with the same retainers. I trusted a doctor's judgment and kept wearing the retainers despite the pain. I reached a point when the pain worsened and I could no longer bite down normally. I realized the problem was not stress but the retainers. I returned to Cobain Orthodontics urgently seeking care. I told Dr. Cobain that my teeth had shifted and showed him how my retainers wouldn't fully seat. He told me to bite down on the retainers. I told him that this caused intense pain. He said the problem was my "sensitivity." I told him I was having severe bite issues that left me unable to sleep. He attributed this to stress. I asked, repeatedly, if I could pay for orthodontic treatment. He refused, saying there was no indication further treatment was needed. I asked if we could at least take orthodontic photographs to clarify where my teeth were shifting. He declined that too. I got a second opinion from a different orthodontist, who quickly identified that the retainers weren't safe to wear. The pain that I'd been experiencing? It was because the ill-fitting retainers had been putting intense, misplaced pressure on my teeth, especially my left canine; this canine angled inward so severely that it made premature contact with the lower tooth in a way that it prevented the rest of my bite from closing; at its most severe it left me unable to sleep for multiple nights because each time I relaxed my jaw, the tooth hit in a way that jolted me awake with pain. The other orthodontist identified this as an occlusal interference -- different from a regular hard-hitting tooth; it wasn't due to normal tooth shifting but instead due to forced movement from the ill-fitting retainers, and I needed further treatment to correct it. I got new retainers from another provider and transferred my case. When I sent orthodontic photographs documenting what had happened to my teeth, Cobain Orthodontics switched from claiming that I had problems tolerating retainers to stating in an email that they had "no record of any reported issues or pain post treatment for 18 months while wearing retainers" -- a statement that contradicts their notes and email correspondence. I really wish I had chosen a different provider from the start.
