Unfortunately I have been unable to get a dental cleaning in a while due to financial reasons and poor scheduling, but that is not the fault of the dentist's office. Greedy! My parents have been Dr Ko's patients for at least 15 yrs. They're now both wheelchair bound making transportation difficult. Yes, mom was late to the appointment. She fell getting from the car into her wheelchair out in the parking lot. Her caregiver explained the issue. Mom had a bloody scraped arm. She made it into the office but late. The staff nicely rescheduled her then slapped her with a $50 missed appointment fee. WTF! read more

I went to Dr.Ko's office this morning because I have a small chip on my front tooth. I hoped to let the doctor to have a look at it and see if he would like to fix it. The receptionist told me I needed to pay 190$ for X-ray and the checking. I told the girl it does not hurt or anything, I don't need the X-ray. I just need to see Dr. Kevin for a few minutes to discuss how he is going to fix it, I can pay for 50$ for that. Of cause she didn't agree. I believe Dr. Kevin is a good dentist and I totally understand why people work for profit and money. I appreciate the girl told me ahead of time of the charging but not after seeing the doctor for a few minutes. read more

Glad to add another positive review for Dr. Ko, my dentist for 11 years. Early on, I needed a crown and was amazed that it could be done in one visit. His expertise, and his commitment to the best of modern technology is unquestionable. Since then, with regular check-ups, I've needed little serious (or costly) care. This is due to the support and advice I've had from him and my hygienist Sheila. I was convinced to buy a water pic, use a bit of fluoride via toothpaste and mouthwash, and encouraged to floss. Dr. Ko understands people and has hired a great staff: an assistant, excellent hygienists, and delightful, competent people in the front office, all from various ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Ko is intelligent, competent, and compassionate. He also has a sense of humor! Inevitably, one must interact with helpful professionals. Some are gifts to one's experience. Their administrative staff could be better. There are about 3 to 4 people in the office, and they seemed overworked and disorganized, and don't greet you at all. Dr. Ko and Wendy the hygienist are great. However, in order to see them, you have to go through the office crew, and that is a major pain point. Availability to see Dr. Ko is also very limited, and could be weeks away. Too many frustrations dealing with them, and I am moving onto another dentist. read more

As a retired physician, I am happy to testify that Dr. Ko is the real deal, a true master of his trade. Impeccable technique and results, a caring manner, and never acts rushed. I think his prices are quite reasonable, and he is quite willing to discuss the pros and cons about any given approach. Absolutely no "my way or the highway" nonsense, which I would not tolerate. I went to Dr. Ko's for an emergency consultation (called in the morning, they scheduled me the same day... no fuss, no muss). I was impressed from the initial intake phone call-- the receptionist and was calm, kind, beyond friendly. Dr. Ko himself is so zen, which is really refreshing given my past experience with negative dentists who would announce doomsday on the state of my teeth. I liked that he proposed a reasonable solution and a reasonable alternative to my tooth issues. He took the time to explain the processes and the rationale behind them. Not once did he try to badger me into any other services. Today, I had a second appointment to get a (post-root canal) permanent crown. Both Dr. Ko and his assistant, Jim, were wonderful and frequently checked in with me to see if I was comfortable. The local anesthesia was as pain free as it could be. He uses a nifty little machine to administer it, which is seriously genius for anyone who is afraid of dentists/needles. There's no visual of a horrific oversized syringe coming for you. GEEK MOMENT: By far the COOLEST thing, ever, is witnessing firsthand the machines used by Dr. Ko to digitally scan, design, and shape the crown itself. After a digital scan of my entire mouth, bite, and of the affected tooth, a little machine in the back furiously began to laser out the crown from a block of ceramic. The whole thing was shaped in 20 minutes and the final product looked like a friggin' Jeff Koons piece. My new crown has an incredible fit. Like the Rolex of crowns. My previous crown always felt wonky, but I figured hey-- that's just how crowns were supposed to be. Nope. And if it matters, I don't have dental insurance and paid for everything out of pocket (back to the 'ole college ramen diet for me). Believe me, I had high expectations, and Dr. Ko exceeded them all. One of my colleagues (whose father was a dentist) told me offhand that the best dentists don't work on weekends. The jury's still out on that theory, but I will point out that Dr. Ko's general office hours are Mon - Fri. The fact that he's willing to give himself and his employees time to rest and recoup tells me that he's committed to providing the best care. A burned out dentist working on your mouth is the last thing anyone wants. Been there...and I am not about that. TL;DR: Dr. Ko and his entire office are one of a kind. Your appointment starts on time. The office utilizes up-to-date technology. More importantly, Dr. Ko is educated in said up-to-date technology. That, and Dr. Ko's incredible bedside manner, makes his and his staff's services worth every penny. read more

I have not personally gone to Dr. Kevin Ko but he was a great help to me in my time of need. My son had an abscessed tooth and it was the weekend and no dentists were calling me back I was in a panic since my son hadn't been able to eat or sleep good the whole weekend and was in a great deal of pain. I had been calling around trying to find an early appointment for him on Monday morning and hopefully some suggestions on how to manage his pain. Dr. Kevin Ko was the only doctor who called me back and he really went out of his way to help me he connected me with a endodontic specialist who even sent in a prescription for antibiotics for my son and offered a early appointment for the next day. He also said to feel free to call him back if I had any more concerns. He really went out of his way for us and he doesn't even know us I am so thankful for his kind heart and helpful spirit. I switched to Dr Ko a few years ago. I wasn't happy with my last experience. All I ask for is a good dentist and professional staffs who are competent with dealing with copays and insurances. I had a very unpleasant experience with Dentist Kevin Ko's office employees. I have a good dental plan with Cigna and they suggested to clean my teeth every four months. Why not, if my dental insurance covers it? I finished the second four month clean-up. The staff said that I needed to pay out of my pocket because my insurance didn't cover the four month clean up. The staff should have checked my plan before the treatment. They said that they "tried to call" me the day before but it didn't happen. They said that it was my responsibility to keep track of my insurance. I was so mad they were trying to cover up their mistake by saying it was my fault. My eyes teared up. The manager followed to my car to apologize to me but she was still arguing with me. Then she said that they actually called the day before and left a message. That's a lie. I showed her my call log to prove that I didn't receive any phone calls from them except appoint reminders. The office employees never say hello or goodbye when they see you. You don't feel welcome. I'm going to change to another dentist. read more

The left side of my face just regained its feeling after being treated for a couple of cavity fillings at Dr. Ko's practice. The cavity was on the outside of my upper back molar. Now that I can feel the area with my tongue, it's as smooth as if there was never a filling. This particular filling seems to "fall out" every 5 years or so and from previous dentists the spot has always been rough enough to feel it. And time seemed to go by quickly. A GOOD day at the dentist! Never thought those words would find there way into my thoughts in that order :-) Never has the process of re-doing the filling been so smooth. Dr. Ko communicated to his assistant each part of the process and how they would proceed. I never felt a bit of pain which , again is not normally my experience with previous dentists who were fine dentists. The most awesomest dentist in WC! Ok, ok so my first time w/ Dr Ko was due to dumb luck the evening prior. The hubby "tossed" the remote to me as I laid on the couch. It ends up bouncing off the couch and I end up catching the remote with my mouth instead of my hands. Lovely, just lovely...my precious front tooth ends up getting chipped! I freaked out for a few minutes but then after awhile of looking at myself in the mirror I couldn't help but laugh. My grill looked comical, I was really thinking about not fixing it. Could I pull off a chipped front tooth in my everyday life? Ummm, maybe not. So the next morning (Friday) I call up a bunch of dentists to get an emergency app ASAP. All I got were answering machines until I get to Dr Ko's office. I got a live person and I was able to get an early afternoon appt. Right on! The office is cozy, homey like and he has state of the art dental equipment. After showing me my X-rays I end up learning that the crack in the back of my tooth was way too close to the nerve (that explains why it was incredibly sensitive, breathing thru my mouth hurt). He was very thorough in explaining my options and what he was going to do. I ended up going with the porcelain crown as it was going to look the closet to my natural teeth and last longer. And get this, I was able to get the permanent crown that same day!! Crazy, and here I thought I was going to have to sport a temporary for a few days or even weeks. Dr Ko has the equipment to make crowns in his office...sweet!! Now my smile looks good as new, like it never happened! Dr Ko is an awesome dentist who is very passionate about his work. It took me 10 years but I finally found a dentist I really like, Dr. Kevin Ko. He is kind, gentle and reassuring. His staff is warm and friendly, I love going to his office. I don't understand the negative reviews about staff as I have always had very positive experiences. Sheila, the dental hygienist is wonderful, very friendly, gentle and thorough. The office is clean and cheerful; the waiting room is comfortable and he has toys for children. Dr. Ko uses the latest technology and his work is far superior to my last few dentists. I had a crown replaced and it took two hours from start to finish and is an exact replication of my tooth, not the white blob I got from my last dentist. The patient is well-protected for x-rays as the lead bib used covers the body and the throat to protect the thyroid. I am really pleased to have found Dr. Ko and highly recommend him. read more

I can not tell you how much I fear doctors of all types, but Dr.Ko and his staff are like the family you never knew you had. They remember who you are, ask questions, are personable and are there to make you feel good about being at the dentist. They are also the first dentist offices that did NOT make me feel bad about not having insurance or not seeing a dentist in some time. This time I came in as an emergency patient since part of my filling fell out and took out a wall of my tooth with it. I called late Tuesday afternoon and they were able to fit me in the next morning. Amazing, because I have had dentists in the past make me wait for up to 2 weeks for similar issues. I ended up having to have a root canal. It is not anyone likes having a root canal, but Dr. Ko makes the process as easy and comfortable as possible. First Ruby came in with a cost break down so that there are no surprises, she is kind and explains every option throughly. Once it's time to get to the procedure Dr. Ko and Donna made sure it was as painless as possible. Dr. Ko is also the most gentle dentist I have ever have work on my teeth. I felt so relaxed that I forgot about him at times and was listening to the background music that I could have fallen asleep, during a root canal! I like that he gave me breaks so that I could close and relax my mouth. He even provided chapstick when my lips got so dry during the procedure that he was worried they would crack. What an amazing and caring dentist, I can not say enough nice things about Dr. Ko, because he deserves them all. You wouldn't find anyone else like him, if you need a dentist then you need to see Dr. Ko. You will not be sorry. i know I'm never going anywhere else. read more

My family is new to the East Bay as of 2016 and we needed a new dentist. Went in for my new patient appointment and was very happy with the office, staff, and up to date dental equipment. My hygienist was very kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. Couldn't have had a better experience. The dentist came in when we were finished with the cleaning and went over needed treatment. He was very professional about it and honest about what needed to be done. They did not pressure me to schedule right away. Instead asked me to sign stating that they went over needed treatment and sign a second time if I would like to schedule for the diagnosed treatment. I loved that. When I came back for my treatment I felt even more impressed! I expressed concerns I had about going with a Cerec over a PFM and thought I was convince I wanted a PFM. After the dentist expressed his preference with Cerec and the reasons why it is better, I changed my mind. He was not rushed when numbing me and explained what he was doing throughout the whole procedure. He did not talk too much and allowed me to take micro breaks without me even asking. The crown turned out looking beautiful!!! I just called and scheduled my last appointment of needed treatment about a week out. I will update this if needed after that appointment. In the end, I would highly recommend this dentist. Nobody likes to go to the dentist but this office is the best you are going to get in my experience. I believe my wife will end up coming here as well because of how highly I talk about the practice. I also believe they are going to move their office soon so they will be able to see more patients. When we first met Dr. Ko after moving to Walnut Creek we had been out of dentist visits for quite some time and needed to have some dental work done to "catch up". My son and I went here today and were happy with the office staff and the cleaning. We took advantage of the yelp special offer and came home with a new electric toothbrush. The dentist did the cleaning himself, something I have never seen. When I commented on it he said he likes to meet and get to know his patients. That was a nice touch. I took my mom today to have Dr. Ko clean out a tooth which was fixed 40 years ago. I had to because a nutritionists (Jon Cotton from Emeryville) told me so. From Santa Clara it was a little far. But boy was it worth it!! The most I appreciate is the fact that in a single day Dr. Ko did the exam, cleaned the old tooth, made the crown, and fixed it. I've been seeing Dr. Ko since 2011 and he is great at what he does. He's very personable and friendly as is all of his staff from front desk to dental hygienists. His office has grown a lot and seems like he always has new patients. He really cares for all of his patients and takes the necessary time with each person. He doesn't try to upsell more services and only suggests more work if it is truly needed. Only downside is scheduling appointments can be difficult depending on your schedule. read more

Dr. Ko, and his staff are the best! I never thought I could say anything good, about a dentist, but this guy lives up to his great reviews! I went to Dr. Ko, based on his awesome reviews, and the fact that he was close by. I was not disappointed. I have SUPER SENSITIVE teeth and gums, so I absolutely hate going to the dentist, and that's putting it mildly. Dr. Ko, is smart, easygoing, has a nice, positive attitude, and uses every tool available to him, to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. They have really nice headphones, available, which is an awesome touch. They are experts at administering anesthesia (my least favorite part, and the entire experience is as pleasant as possible. Special mention goes to Sheila. my hygienist, who is very entertaining, and put up with my lame, nervous joking around. I also can't say enough about the girls that handle all the admin stuff: they are the most pleasant people to ever work in a dentists' office. I had chipped a tooth and had just moved to town. Didn't know anyone local who could recommend a dentist. So off to Yelp! I saw all of these crazy high ratings and glowing reviews, so how could I not at least try him? Well, all of these reviews and 5 star ratings? They are all completely deserved. The office staff is great (Cecilia is simply brilliant!), the practice team is great, Dr. Ko is great. He's now my dentist and, if you're reading this, Dr. Ko, I'm about to call for an appointment and I'm excited to go! Who says that about their dentist??? I do now! I moved from San Francisco to Walnut Creek and found Dr. Ko to be close by. One of my molars cracked and fell out in 2 pieces. I was able to get an appointment to have it looked at. Dr. Ko was able to prepare what was left of my tooth to receive a crown. He inserted a temporary plastic crown and orderd a porcelain crown. After about a week, I cracked the temporary crown, so I chewed only using one side for a few days. Dr. Ko was able to insert the porcelain crown and adjust the bite, so I am able to chew with both sides now! Congratulations on another successful procedure;) read more

I started coming to Dr. Ko earlier this year after neglecting my teeth for a few years. I have two different dental insurances - I just hated going to the dentist! Every so often I would look in Yelp and decide, oh, yes, that's the dentist I'll go to- and then not do it. I finally went in when I had a toothache and had no choice.
