Worse dining stop on our road trip around the coast of the Michigan Thumb, Mitten, & the Upper Peninsula! Food uneatable, service subpar, and restaurant smelled of old tobacco smoke. Ordered a burger described on the menu as a blend of chuck, brisket and short rib. Hard to believe this burger was a blend of top grade burger meat. It was flavorless, chewy, and tough. Most likely one of those flat frozen meat patties shaped like a hockey puck. Waffle fries were cold. Hubby ordered the soup, which was ice cold. Why can't a restaurant serve hot soup? Does the kitchen perform periodic thermometer checks of the soup kettle/warmer? If not and the soup is lukewarm, it is prone to reaching the danger zone and breeding germs that cause food poisoning. When served lukewarm soup, no need to send it back, as the kitchen will only reheat it in the microwave, which won't kill germs that cause food borne illness. The restaurant was posted non-smoking but the smoke from the casino was so thick, it permeated into the restaurant. Rather than limit the smoke for restaurant diners by using the section furthest from the casino entrance, the staff closed that section and sat diners near the casino entrance. Kewadin needs to invest in a "smoke eater" to remove smoke from the restaurant. Staff were not attentive and sat in a booth not far from our table--playing on their cell phones in between munching on their dinner and drinking from their big cups. ServSafe guidelines recommend staff members should NOT eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum where customers are served, not only to maintain cleanliness and not compromise food safety, but because it is unprofessional. As staff would get up to seat a diner or check on a table, there was NO handwashing--increasing the chance of cross contamination. I don't blame the staff in situations like this as it is obvious they are not trained and on their own. We did not see a manager--and I doubt other than a hourly line cook, there was no manager on duty in the kitchen. Definitely will not recommend or return. I do recommend that the general manager look into ServSafe certification as a minimum of one certified staff member must be scheduled on every shift.

Stayed at the hotel for a night. Lovely view outside our window on the first floor. The restaurant had good food and service. We had fun in the casino. I particularly enjoyed their roulette setup and had a hard time pulling myself away from that. They had a decent selection of machines and the gift shop had some cool stuff. They had a lovely patio deck you could sit on to enjoy the views of the lake. They had a pathway down to the water to enjoy up close. Everything was beautiful! The place was clean and the staff were all friendly. I recommend this casino and would absolutely stay here again!

The casino is very underwhelming. My recommendation would be based on what you are looking for. If you are used to anything like Vegas or the CT casinos Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, you will not like it. If you are looking to play slots or maybe a table game, it could scratch your itch. It's a dark, small, Smokey casino. I went silently blackjack and get a chip for my collection. They only had 4 tables open, and only one was for blackjack and that table was full. I waited about 15 mins to get a seat. They have automatic shufflers, hit on soft 17, $10 minimums and BJ pays 3/2, which is nice. Odd thing is they don't have a mirror to check dealers BJ so they will only check the Ace manually, so the dealer knows the other card. They won't check the 10 until after the hand and if he has it, they will adjust as if they checked it before. Meaning if you double or split, you get your second bet back. Overall it may get the job done if you have the urge to gamble, but otherwise not really worth going out of your way for. If you are looking for table games, make sure to check their hours online. They don't open until 4pm and are closed on some days, I think Monday and Tuesday.

Used a voucher from the American Best Value Inn for $10 to join the Northern Rewards Club at the Kedawin Casino in St. Ignace. The atmosphere of the casino was ripe with cigarette smoke and casino locals. Very friendly gaming members more than willing to lend inside advice. Highly recommend the Cheshire Cat game to use the voucher on. Great parking lot with plenty of space for recreational vehicles, compact SUV's, the daily driver, or classic vintage. No bicycle racks were visible which cost them a star. Large fenestration view out onto the lake which one can easily get lost in the view. Would recommend for a quick pull off stop on a road trip or as a place to spend the afternoon.

A stop at Kewadin Casino - St. Ignace will have you asking yourself if you feel lucky.... I had the pleasure of enjoying the casino twice during a casino bus tour: Friday afternoon and the following Sunday morning. The Good: 1. Entire staff was polite, friendly and helpful! 2. Setting up my Players Card was a breeze at the front desk. The lady that was helping me was friendly and made small talk. 3. We got $10 of FREE play each time we visited the casino since we were on a casino bus tour. Whoop! 4. They offer a couple of dining options: Campfire Deli, Horseshoe Bay, and Whitetail Sports Bar. 5. Since we were on a casino bus tour we got $10 in dining coupons that we were able to combine to get a sandwich from the Campfire Deli. For FREE! No money out of my pocket! BONUS!!! 6. Breathtaking views of Horseshoe Bay! 7. Even though smoking is allowed in the casino it didn't smell like an ashtray. 8. The overall appearance of the casino plus surrounding areas all seemed clean and well maintained. 9. The drinks were good and priced well. 10. My sandwich from the Campfire Deli was tasty and FREE since I was able to combine coupons!!!! #winning 11. The view of Horseshoe Bay is breathtaking!! The Areas for Improvement: 1. On our Sunday visit to the casino I observed a security guard pulling double duty and working as valet. While driving a patron's vehicle he nearly side-swiped our bus. Our driver used the horn and as soon as the security guard got out of the vehicle he just walked off. Saying nothing to the owner of the vehicle nor our driver. 2. Walking around and seeing burn marks in the casino carpet reminded me of the late 80's. Overall: A solid 4 stars. Kewadin Casino - St. Ignace makes for a nice stop on a casino bus tour!!!!

Not bad, a bit smaller than soaring eagle but still fun! Nice and clean. The workers are nice. Find the batman game, we all did decent on it!

From the outside patio at Kewadin. Nice sitting/smoking area

Staff was very rude. Wanna be cop, Kirk, escorted us out after accusing us of something we didn't even do. Very unprofessional.

I would not recommend the restaurant, but the rooms are clean with balconies that overlook the lake.

We stayed in Cabin #6, it was nestled in a wooded area. This one has 2 bedrooms, a small and well stocked kitchen, a sitting area with a futon, dining table by a fireplace, and a small bathroom. They provide wood and kindling and have a firepit for each cabins use. I loved the rustic camp atmosphere, with the cut out wood entry to the bedrooms. This place is comfortable, and not flashy. The porch was relaxing to sit out on for morning coffee. Things to note: The toilet gurgles, it's a septic system. The shower is stall style, no tub. The bedroom dividing wall does not go to the ceiling so you could potentially hear what the other side says or does. There are a couple steps to get inside. The kitchen has way more supplies than expected. The beach walk takes maybe 5 minutes. There is a cute fairy garden by the beach. You do hear some road noise even though you are tucked away in the forest. I would love to come stay again. (Hoping to plan another trip for next year).

The living room has a futon that folds out to a double, and the chair and ottoman fold out to a single--so this could possibly accommodate 7-8 people who really don't value their privacy at all. Firewood is provided. Bath towels are not. Bring soap, shampoo, toiletries. As noted, the TV's don't have cable and WIFI has not yet reached the cabins. There is a library of VCR tapes in the office to borrow, along with a collection of board games. We didn't use any of these--but we had perfect weather for our short stay. There's a private beach across the road and we took advantage of that. Each cabin has a fire ring with chairs, a grill, and a picnic table. After five nights in unfailingly terrible hotel beds, the beds here were a big win for me. I am nursing a nasty shoulder injury and have a hard time sleeping and limited positions, and slept exceptionally well here. Great pillows, comfortable mattresses, nice sheets and blankets. Daughter, who's a light sleeper, was very comfortable on the futon as well. We'd happily come back for a longer stay--it was basic but very comfortable and reasonably well appointed, not luxurious but everything we needed and a few things we wanted. Staff was friendly and helpful and cabin information binder gave us good suggestions of where to eat (which we should have followed.)

This is an old time motor hotel (motel) located on the main drag, just up the hill from Shepler's Ferry. It transported me back to family vacations in the 1960s, before interstates and box hotels were pervasive. On first sight, one might understandably move on. Rust on the outside of the motel room doors might have suggested poor upkeep. But we already had reservations and the rust was a false flag. Check-in was quick. The owner called us as we approached the Mackinac bridge to confirm our arrival. As has been reported by others, staff was both friendly and helpful. We were offered discounted ferry tickets and an offer that we could leave our car at the hotel during our day visit to the island. This saved us parking fees. The Shepler's shuttle was called to collect us the next day and dropped us off when we returned. As many have written, this family operated motel is impeccably clean and well appointed inside. Internet was fast, heat in the evenings kept us comfortable. (Many hotels turn off heat until October). This motel has obviously gone through a recent renovation. Entering the room, the smell of freshly laid carpet was apparent. The two queen beds were comfortable and provided a good night sleep for our family of 3. Despite the location on a busy street, insulation and sound proofed windows muffled any noise from passing traffic. All important hot water had good pressure and volume in a very clean bathroom. (The only negative would be the towels which were rather thin). We normally stay in brand name box hotels when we are on the road because there is usually a free breakfast. Wayside offers coffee but no breakfast. But that was not a problem. A pancake house was a short walk down the street. All in all, we enjoyed our time at Wayside Motel. It was a good value. We will look to stay here again on our next visit to Mackinac Island.
